Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby (VO)

Synopsis : While most students at Burtonwood Academy get to kill demons and goblins, fifteen-year-old Emma gets to rid the world of little annoying fairies with glittery wings and a hipster fashion sense. She was destined to be a dragon slayer, but cute and charming Curtis stole her spot. Then she sees a giant killer fairy – and it’s invisible to everyone but her! If Emma has any chance of stopping this evil fairy, she’s going to need help. Unfortunately, the only person who can help is Curtis. And now, not only has he stolen her dragon-slayer spot, but maybe her heart as well! Why does she think it’s going to be a fairy bad day?

Review : The beautiful cover makes me want to read this book before even reading the synopsis. But finally I’m glad because I really enjoy the story too !
I really like Emma, it’s a young, determined and stubborn girl. She has always wanted to become a dragon slayer like her mother, but to her distress, she becomes a fairy slayer. What a shame for her, who doesn’t even know how to kill any of them. But why does it matter ? It’s not what she wants to do for her life, she is the laughing stock of the other students and she has decided that she will find a way to become a real dragon slayer ! Unfortunately, everything she does, ends badly by a detention. Now, she risks to be expelled by the school and she has to team up with Curtis, the guy she thinks responsible for her job, the guy who has ruined her life.
But when she saw for the first time an huge dragon, and that nobody believes her, she has to ask Curtis and her friends for help. And she doesn’t like it at all !

I was caught by the story in the beginning, and the slight and funny tone of the story stays the same all along the novel. We can therefore follow the Emma’s adventures, who decides to not agree with her professors and try to kill the creature herself ! We can see the character’s evolution, who starts to be immature and stubborn to become more responsible and attentive to others.
We meet too some little cute fairies despite they are very annoying. They will help our heroine but still with bad faith. I really liked the three of them, they’re funny and very clever !

We ask ourselves a lot of questions about Curtis, who has a variable temper and I was very surprised when I learn the reason.
