Hellforged by Nancy Holzner

Deadtown, Book 2

Synopsis: After Vicky banished her demon nemesis to the fiery depths of Hell, she thought life would return to normal. But considering she has a werewolf lawyer boyfriend, a zombie apprentice who’s angling to become a pop star, and an eccentric vampire roommate, what is normal, anyway?
Then the supposedly banished Hellion starts to trespass in Vicky’s dreams—just as several of Deadtown’s zombies are viciously attacked and become really dead. When Vicky realizes she’s the only connection between the victims, she suspects that the demon is somehow working through her dreams to become Deadtown’s living nightmare.
What she doesn’t know is that her old enemy brings with it a force more terrifying—and deadly—than anything she’s battled before.

Review: I immediately read this second volume after finishing the first one. I must say that once we get into the world of Nancy Holzner we always want more. This new novel also begins really fast and like the first one we aren’t bored for a second.

Having regained an almost normal life, with the hope of having gotten rid of her Hellion demon, our young heroine comes back to work as if nothing had happened. But she is nevertheless very quickly overtaken by some new problems when, after forgetting her watch at the bar, she returns the next morning to find the new bartender, a zombie, dead in a fairly atrocious way. And it seems that death is following her when two others she knew, are found in the same way. I must say I was quite surprised by the death of a character I liked even though we didn’t see him a lot. It’s pretty sad to say that we won’t see him anymore through the pages. But in addition to all this, the banished Hellion she thought gone, returns to her in the less pleasant way possible. Vicky is going to have to face many new challenges and new characters who do not necessarily want her something good.

I was really delighted to meet Mab after hearing so much about her. This is really a fascinating lady and we’re immediately intrigued by what she really is and what she can do. We realize that our heroine does not know her really well as the lady hides many things. In this trip, we will also meet Pryce, her half demon cousin who is convinced that destiny will unite them both. This is also far from the view of our hunter! Kane and Daniel are also here. It is quite difficult to make a choice between the two of them, they both really have a little something more. We would like to see our heroine trying something with both to see where it could lead her to, but it is actually quite complicated. There are a lot of things in this novel and there is no downtime. As soon as we are on an idea, something else occurs, complicating the whole story.

I really enjoyed this novel, it was a very pleasant surprise and I’m glad to have discovered this series. I also will launch in the third book as soon as I get it in hand. The world and the characters are always fascinating and I hope more now.
