The Thing About Weres by Leigh Evans

Mystwalker, Book 2

Synopsis: THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER

In the never-ending saga that is my love-hate relationship with Robson Trowbridge, I, half-Were Hedi Peacock, have had a change of heart. Ever since I shoved Trowbridge through the Gates of Merenwyn, I’ve been the leader of the pack—hard to believe, right? The thing is: I’m half-Fae. So even though my Were side is ready to heed the call of the wild, the other part of me is desperate to take flight. And much as it pains me to admit it, life without Trowbridge is really starting to were me down…

I AM WERE, HEAR ME ROAR.

To make matters worse, the wolves of Creemore want my blood—and the North American Council of Weres wants me dead. So I’m just counting the days until Trowbridge returns from the other realm…and comes to my brave rescue…and becomes my alpha mate. Wishful thinking? Of course it is. But given all the mess I’ve been through already, what’s the harm in doing a little bit of daisy-plucking? Besides, Trowbridge owes me bigtime. A girl can dream.

Review: After reading the first book, I came away with a rather mixed feelings. So when I was asked to read the next one, I thought it was a good idea then to see how the second volume would be. And I must say that I was blown away by this new story and I am now very curious to have the chance to discover the next novel in the series.

We find Hedi in a place she never wanted, as well as in a situation that exasperates her. Indeed, since Robson went into this other world, our young heroine finds herself with more responsibilities than she would have liked. But even if it was only that… but everyone is plotting behind her back and refuses to accept her authority. Due to this, Hedi gradually loses her stature as well as her strong nature and becomes increasingly dull and it’s therefore difficult for her to stand up against anyone. I must say she has so many things on her mind and the absence of her  soul mate is felt deep within her every passing day. So when Robson is back with the Hedi’s brother, hope reborn in her, as well as the appearance of many questions. The time is not the same between the two worlds, and the much-desired return is far from what she had imagined … Robson and her brother as expected became two people she does not recognize at all. She will then have to discern right from wrong, but doubt still hangs over the truth.

Many events happen in this novel and we discover some revelations for the questions we had in the first volume. I was surprised to discover so much about the gifts of our heroine and to see how they would evolve. It was also quite sad to see the state in which she was at the beginning of the story. But over the chapters, her character changes, allowing us to find the person we had known. I was also very surprised and very happy to be able to attend the meeting with her brother. I confess I did not expect this at all, or the person he has become, but it was very interesting to find out that. I admit that Trowbridge was also a big surprise. I did not expect to see him so changed by his trip. He became hard, uncompromising, yet still in love with Hedi. But this fact makes us doubt and I confess myself more than once, I asked some questions about him, as our heroine. Of course, the answers come in time and I found that the ideas of Leigh Evans were really well found. Many surprises appear here, and the author has managed to keep the suspense throughout the story, allowing us to discover a large number of facts. I hope to have the opportunity to read at least the next one very quickly. The mix between Faes and Werewolves is very promising and the Leigh Evans ideas as unique.

  1. So glad you enjoyed this one more than the previous book, D.! I wasn’t sure I would, that’s why I decided not to accept it for review. I’m always glad to see when book#2 is stronger than book#1. This means that the author is growing 🙂
