Hello, can you tell us a little more about yourself?

Hi! *waves* Thanks for having me as a guest today! I write urban fantasy as Amanda Bonilla and contemporary romance and romantic suspense as Mandy Baxter.

Can you present us some of your series?

My current series include the Shaede Assassin and Sentry of Evil urban fantasy series, the U.S. Marshals romantic suspense series, and two contemporary Billionaires Club series.

How do you find your titles? Did you imagine them all when you started the series or do you brainstorm each time?

I’m horrible with titles! Coming up with titles is one of my least favorite things to do. Usually I’ll brainstorm a title with my agent, editor, or readers. We’ll usually go over several different options before settling on a title and even then there’s a chance it might change. I’d rather write an entire book than come up with one title.

Does the inspiration for the characters come from people you know?

Sometimes, but not often. Jax, the heroine in VENGEANCE BORNE was inspired by my daughter. They have similar physical traits and personality traits. That’s the most specific character inspiration I’ve ever drawn from my real life. Sometimes I’ll see someone somewhere that will inspire a physical description of a character but personality wise, most of my characters are completely fictional.

Who are some of your influences?

I read so many different authors and I’m inspired by them all! Some of my auto-buy favorite authors are Bernard Cornwell, Patricia Briggs, and Kresley Cole. I also love Anne Rice, Tiffany Reisz, Julie Ann Walker, Amanda Carlson, Kristen Painter, Roxanne St. Claire, Kristen Callihan, Kalayna Price, Lillith Saintcrow, Jeaniene Frost… I could go on for hours! LOL!

You tried different genre, which one is your favorite?

Writing is definitely a process and it can be tough at times. The most important piece of advice I give is to sit your butt in the chair and write. Period. Write when the words don’t want to come, write when you don’t think you have time, write when you’re not sure where the story is going. Get the first draft out. You can smooth out the bumps in revisions.

I’ve written in more than a few genres: urban fantasy, PNR, contemporary, and RS. I love them all but my heart is truly with fantasy. UF and PNR are my wheelhouse. I love the world building!

Can you tell us a little more about your third U.S. Marshal novel?

I’m so excited for the third U.S. Marshal novel, ONE TOUCH MORE. Damien Evans is an edgier hero and he has an equally edgy heroine. He’s under cover searching for a fugitive who’s been peddling synthetic drugs across the Pacific Northwest. He meets Tabitha, a night manager of a hotel, who ends up giving him a run for his money. I think readers are going to like both Tabitha and Damien and I’m so excited for the book to release in October!

Why choosing to write on U.S. Marshals?

I’m a huge fan of the show Justified and I’ve always been fascinated with what the Marshals Service does. They’re one of the most elite law enforcement and fugitive recovery agencies in the world. I’ve read a couple of non-fiction books on the marshals and I also know a retired U.S. Marshal that I consult with. The stories are amazing! These guys are literally putting their lives on the line daily. At a friend’s retirement party, an FBI agent remarked that in all of his years with the FBI, he’d never discharged his weapon. A marshal at the party responded, “I discharge my weapon at least once a day.” They’re out in the field hunting down dangerous criminals every single day. Who wouldn’t want to read about that?

You intended to release a new Shaede Assassin book, can you tell us a little more about this one?

The next Shaede Assassin novel, SHADOWS AT MIDNIGHT, will be available for purchase at the end of the summer. I’d hoped to release it sooner but I had pressing deadlines that I had to focus on first and my son graduated from high school this year which seriously ate up tons of my time. It’s seriously as involved as putting on a wedding! LOL!

In the fifth Shaede Assassin novel, Darian finds herself the captive of Padma, Azriel’s mother and the Rakshasa queen. She’s not particularly happy with Darian—or Xander—for the death of her son and she’s ready to take her revenge. They both go through the ringer in this book and it will also be a turning point for some characters’ relationships. I love writing in this world and I hope that readers will love this book as much as I do!

Do you intend to write a second book in the Sentry of Evil series?

Yes, definitely! I’m just not sure when that will be. I’ve definitely been up to my eyeballs in work lately, which is good, but it makes it tough to make time for the projects that I really want to work on. I’m hoping to write the next installment within the next year. I miss that world and really want to get back to it!

Do you want to try another genre?

I’d like to try to write an epic fantasy. I actually have one started but I really need to iron out the world building before I can sit down and write it.

Who is your favorite fictional character?
That’s a tough one! I’d have to say Derfel from Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles. He’s a warlord who serves King Arthur in the series and he’s one of the most compelling protagonists I’ve ever read. I can read that series over and again and it never gets old. I absolutely love Cornwell’s writing

Marshal, ONE TOUCH MORE.

    • Hi Mai!

With the Shaede Assassin series, the titles have to do specifically with the tone of the individual book or can be found in the narrative or dialog. 🙂 Other times, I’ll brainstorm titles or ask for readers’ opinions. I sometimes find that coming up with a title is harder than writing the entire book. LOL!

  1. Oh gosh it would be so awesome if a character is inspired by me. Even more awesome is if your mom/dad is a bestselling, and badass, author!

Fab review & I got to check out Warlord Chronicles.

  2. I think coming up with a title that represents the book while sounding nice/cool is not the easiest thing to do. So I can see why you’d rather write a whole book than come up with a title lol!
