Run Away by Harlan Coben

Synopsis: A perfect family is shattered in RUN AWAY, the new thriller from the master of domestic suspense, Harlan Coben.

You’ve lost your daughter.

She’s addicted to drugs and to an abusive boyfriend. And she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want to be found.

Then, by chance, you see her playing guitar in Central Park. But she’s not the girl you remember. This woman is living on the edge, frightened, and clearly in trouble.

You don’t stop to think. You approach her, beg her to come home.

She runs.

And you do the only thing a parent can do: you follow her into a dark and dangerous world you never knew existed. Before you know it, both your family and your life are on the line. And in order to protect your daughter from the evils of that world, you must face them head on.

Review: It’s been a long time since I’ve read a Harlan Coben’s novel, but I usually have a good time every time. So when I saw the release of this new novel, I was intrigued!

Simon’s life has been turned upside down since his daughter Paige ran away and at home he seems to be the only one who cares. Even if his wife wants him to do nothing, our hero is determined to find his junkie daughter. But this quest will lead him to places and contact with people much more dangerous than he thought. Yes, because Paige’s disappearance is linked to a more than sordid story and Simon will have to do everything possible to find her, even risk his own life and that of his wife. He will also discover secrets about his loved ones that could well change everything!

It was really a very interesting novel and I must admit that there are several things I didn’t see coming. We discover different characters in alternation, connect their stories little by little and I must say that everything is very well mastered. I had a good time with the story and was delighted to find the author’s pen after all this time.

Forever Yours by Daniel Glattauer

Synopsis: Judith, in her mid-thirties and single, meets Hannes when he steps on her foot in a crowded supermarket. Before long he turns up in the exclusive little lighting boutique that Judith runs with the help of her assistant Bianca.

Hannes is an architect – single and in the prime of life. Not only is he every mother-in-law’s dream, but Judith’s friends are also bowled over by him. At first Judith revels in being put on a pedestal by this determined man who seems to have eyes only for her. But as time goes by, she finds his constant displays of affection increasingly wearying and his intensive attention becomes oppressive and overwhelming.

In the end she feels cornered, controlled and stifled. All her attempts to get him out of her life fail. He seems to follow her all the way into her dreams, and when she wakes up he’s already waiting on her doorstep to pamper her afresh…

Review: Celine had given me this novel and I was curious, after having it for some time in my TBR pile, to read it. It’s not a very thick book, so it’s easy to finish it fast enough.

It’s a rather different and intriguing story that the author proposes here. This is the story of Judith and Hannes. A story that begins perfectly, although this guy is a little too insistent for her liking. But everyone loves hil, he is so good … But now, is Hannes the one he claims to be? Or is she crazy?

I was really curious to discover the answers to these questions. We doubt with Judith, we wonder what exactly is happening. It’s hard to understand, it’s hard to see her going through all these events and we hope things will work out. On the other hand, I must admit that I remain a little on my hunger with this end. I have the impression that with all that happened, my final was stolen. I would have liked more explanations I think.

Make Me Fall by Ember Leigh

Book 2

Synopsis : There’s one rule in my family.

Stay away from the Daly brothers.

We were raised to know them as users. Manipulators. But I only ever saw Connor as the enigmatic senior hottie who dropped into fifth period to teach us about the perils of drunk driving.

When my first big girl job out of college ends up with us working at the same company, it’s heart throb city all over again. Except he’s way ahead of the game. Successful, talented, put together. I’m just a frumpy twenty-something in a quarter life crisis who doesn’t know a glue stick from a makeup highlighter.

He would never want me, even though he’s all I ever wanted in secret. So when we cross paths one night at the bar and one drink leads to another, he slaps me with an offer I can’t refuse.

Accompany him back to Bayshore, flight included.

Only stipulation? Pose as his girlfriend.

Our families will flip, but I’m not strong enough to say no to those baby blues, especially if it means I’ll have a chance to go on vacation with my adolescent heart throb.

We’ve got two weeks to prove we’re head over heels for each other.

Which is just enough time to make me fall.

Review: I had a good time with the first volume of the series featuring Hazel and Grayson and I was very curious to discover the story of another Daly brother. So how can we resist Connor and Kinsley.

Kinsley’s family has always hated Connor’s even though they don’t really know why. However, he had a crush on her and even if they now work for the same company, he has never even looked at her. She understands that, she finds herself banal, not pretty enough and certainly not his type. However, when he meets her in a bar one evening and offers her to accompany her to play as his fake girlfriend for his grandmother’s funeral, Kinsley forgets all common sense and accepts. What could happen? But when feelings appear, things turn out in a completely different way.

I had a good time with this novel and I must admit that I didn’t expect it to happen in parallel with the first book. So it was nice to see some of the moments we had already seen in relation to Hazel and Grayson. I also had a great time with this new couple and it’s really easy to get attached to Kinsley, even if you also want to shake Connor several times.

A second very nice volume!

Make Me Fall de Ember Leigh (VO)

Tome 2

L’accompagner jusqu’à Bayshore, vol compris.

Seule stipulation ?

Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron

Heartstrikers, Book 1

Synopsis: As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don’t cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn’t fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience.

Now, sealed in human form and banished to the DFZ–a vertical metropolis built on the ruins of Old Detroit–Julius has one month to prove that he can be a ruthless dragon or kiss his true shape goodbye forever. But in a city of modern mages and vengeful spirits where dragons are considered monsters to be exterminated, he’s going to need some serious help to survive this test.

He only hopes humans are more trustworthy than dragons…

Review: I heard so much about this series and having loved the author’s SF series under the name of Rachel Bach, I was eager to immerse myself in this new story! And how to resist dragons?

Julius is not the dragon that his family would like him to be. He misses all the traits of individualism, egocentricity, the desire to dominate the world, well everything … No Julius is just nice and his mother can not take it anymore! So, she throws him out one day and tells him that if he does not do something in his life she will eat him. This is a real threat. Even worse, she sends him to DFZ, the only city that eradicates dragons, and Julius knows he’ll have to be careful not to get too much attention. Yet one of his brothers is waiting for him and offers him a job. He must try to find a wrist that has run away to bring her back to her family. Without money, without friends (because hey, the dragons must not have any!), he will ally himself with a girl, Marci, who runs away from her problems. Together, they will do everything to find the runaway, but it will be far from simple.

I had a great time with this novel although seeing all the praise I expected to be a little more blown away. However, I must say that it was a very good discovery and I loved discovering Julius and his whole a bit crazy family. It was also nice to find a real urban fantasy without romance and so to go back to the sources! Our protagonist has all of the anti-heroes and I also found it very nice for a change. Marci is also a great character to follow and I loved her ghost cat! Their adventure takes us completely away and I am curious to discover what will happen to them now!
