666 Park Avenue, Book 1

Synopsis : What if your mother-in-law turned out to be an evil, cold-blooded witch . . . literally?
Ever since fabulously wealthy Malcolm Doran walked into her life and swept her off her feet, fledgling architect Jane Boyle has been living a fairy tale. When he proposes with a stunning diamond to seal the deal, Jane can’t believe her incredible luck and decides to leave her Paris-based job to make a new start with Malcolm in New York.

But when Malcolm introduces Jane to the esteemed Doran clan, one of Manhattan’s most feared and revered families, Jane’s fairy tale takes a darker turn. Soon everything she thought she knew about the world—and herself—is upended. Now Jane must struggle with newfound magical abilities and the threat of those who will stop at nothing to get them.

Review : I really like the cover and I confess it is the reason I bought this book (I now it’s not always a good idea). When I received the book, I enjoy a lot its presentation. Indeed, the cover is a little different from other ones, it’s not smooth but quite rough and each chapter starts with the same nice picture.

In the beginning, the story takes place in Paris, which is quite pleasant because we can discover some places we know (yeah OK I know) and some french expressions. It’s just for a little part of the book but it’s always really nice. So we follow the adventures of Jane, a young amazing woman whose life will change overnight. Everything starts perfectly when her rich boyfriend asks her to marry him. Obviously, so glad about it, she accepts immediately. She also decides to leave France to live with him in New-York. But it goes wrong when before leaving, she decides to go and see her grandmother to announce her future wedding. She will earn some new powers she doesn’t thing anything about, a new big secret she needs to hide.
But it really changes when she discovers the Malcom’s family and especially his mother. Indeed, Lynne is a young woman who doesn’t have the habit to be upset by something or someone. So Jane has to choose carefully her battles, but when it’s about the wedding, Lynne is intransigent! Our heroine starts a new life, surrounded by some persons who don’t seem what they really are.
The story wasn’t original or surprising, but it’s very pleasant to read it. Jane evolves all along the book, to become a person who wants to impose her choices and decisions. We discover with her, her nature and her gifts. Her life evolves too with the story, a lot of problems constantly appear. Jane tries to live with her choices but I think it’s very strange that she doesn’t doubt about her fiance, or that she forgives him so easily for his acts. Maeve and Harris are two characters I really like, and I wonder if in the sequel something will happen between Harris and Jane.
I’m curious to learn how will evolve the story, as the Jane’s magic and mainly the reprisals.

  1. FIRST OF ALL: Oh my gosh, Melliane, I LOVE your new blog design!! It’s so pretty, and the colours literally make it feel like it’s gold sparkling under the sun!

LOL back onto the topic, this book sounds so cool! And it’s so awesome that it’s set in Paris (although I’d probably have to use you as a guide, Mel LOL)!

Awesome review! Even despite the unoriginality, I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

  2. @ Mimi Valentine : Thank you so much! Thanks to Inessa my friend on the blog. Lol I think I’m always surprised to read some english books in France it’s so funny.

@ Melissa (books and things) : You’re right, in the same time it’s interesting and annoying, I don’t know if it’s possible. Jane is so frustrating! Thank you!
