Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich (VO)

Stephanie Plum, Book 18

Synopsis:  Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum’s life is set to blow sky high when international murder hits dangerously close to home, in this dynamite novel by Janet Evanovich.

Before Stephanie can even step foot off Flight 127 from Hawaii to Newark, she’s knee deep in trouble. Her dream vacation turned into a nightmare, she’s flying back to New Jersey solo, and someone who sounds like Sasquatch is snoring in row 22. Worse still, her seatmate never returned to the plane after the L.A. layover. Now he’s dead, in a garbage can, waiting for curbside pickup. His killer could be anyone. The FBI, the fake FBI, and guns-for-hire are all looking for a photograph the dead man was supposed to be carrying.

Only one other person has seen the missing photograph—Stephanie Plum. Now she’s the target, and she doesn’t intend to end up in a garbage can. With the help of an FBI sketch artist Stephanie re-creates the person in the photo. Unfortunately the first sketch turns out to look like Tom Cruise, and the second sketch like Ashton Kutcher. Until Stephanie can improve her descriptive skills, she’ll need to watch her back.

Over at the Bail Bonds Agency it’s business as usual—until the bonds bus serving as Vinnie’s temporary HQ goes up in smoke, Stephanie’s wheelman, Lula, falls in love with their “largest” FTA yet, lifetime arch nemesis Joyce Barnhardt moves into Stephanie’s apartment, and everyone wants to know what happened in Hawaii?!

Morelli, Trenton’s hottest cop, isn’t talking about Hawaii. Ranger, the man of mystery, isn’t talking about Hawaii.  And all Stephanie is willing to say about her Hawaiian vacation is . . . It’s complicated.

Review: Here we go again for another amazing Stephanie Plum’s adventure. I know a lot of persons say that the stories are always the same, but it’s not the case for me, and it’s always a real pleasure to read the Janet Evanovich’s books. It’s true, the love stories don’t really progress, but if it was the case, it would take off the little thing we have, doesn’t it? Anyway, here is a new novel I really enjoyed and I quickly finished.
We can find our Stephanie who after her holidays which seemed quite animate, comes back alone to Trenton, leaving behind her Morelli and Ranger. But of course, everyone just wants only one thing: to know what happened, and mainly Lula who isn’t happy at all because Stephanie doesn’t say anything to her either. Don’t are they BFF? And what can we say about this brand tanning around her finger which has the shape of an engagement ring? I confess it was the element which intrigued me the most, mainly because everyone wonders about it from the start. But Stephanie is determined to keep the secret as long as she can. We have to wait a few chapters to understand what happened. Yes! Janet Evanovich keeps us all along in the dark, and therefore we just want to do one thing: to jump some pages to know the true.
It’s not finished! During the story, Stephanie is pursued by all sides, everyone wants one thing: a picture a man gave her despite she didn’t know it. But nobody seems to believe her when she says she doesn’t have it. Indeed, after her arrival when she found it, she threw it away, but it doesn’t seem to change anything.  With all of this, her life returns to normal. Normal would you say? Between Lula who drinks a love potion, the agency invaded by rats or even Joyce who decides to come and live in the Stephanie’s apartment, our heroine won’t have the time to be bored, and neither do us!
I’ve always enjoyed this series since the beginning, and I was happy to get into another story.
Janet Evanovich presents us a new explosive and funny mix, we can’t be bored and the story makes me laugh. Another great book which allows us to wait for the sequel.

  1. I’m so bummed that I haven’t read this seires yet, especially since the movie is coming out soon. It’s good to know that even after 18 books, the author manages to keep the fresh and fun.

  2. @ Missie: Oh you really need to read it! I’m a little afraid for the movie. We’ll see how it is.

@ Wendy Darling: lol It was the series which make me want to read English book at first because I was too curious to know the sequel.

@ BookaholicCat: You really need to! It’s my favorite Chick lit series ever.

  3. OH MY GOSH! Eighteen books in and it’s still an awesome book? I am VERY intrigued right now! 🙂 I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a series this long & awesome at the same time! Bounty hunters and awesome characters and a hint of a mystery at the same time? That sounds SO COOL!

Awesome review, Melliane!! I’m super glad you’re still loving this series! 🙂

  4. I say if it works and people (and individual as a reader) enjoy it, why fix it? Sounds like you really enjoy these books, I’m glad. Don’t let others tell you they don’t change, if you enjoy them, then read them. 🙂 I know people say that about books, but you kind of know what you are buying and if you like it, so if you don’t want it, don’t keep getting it.

Glad you loved this one. 🙂 Thank yoU!
