The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens (VO)

Graveyard Queen, Book 2

Synopsis: Deep in the shadowy foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies a dying town…

My name is Amelia Gray. They call me The Graveyard Queen. I’ve been commissioned to restore an old cemetery in Asher Falls, South Carolina, but I’m coming to think I have another purpose here.

Why is there a cemetery at the bottom of Bell Lake? Why am I drawn time and again to a hidden grave I’ve discovered in the woods? Something is eating away at the soul of this town—this withering kingdom—and it will only be restored if I can uncover the truth.

Review: I really loved this book. I was very surprised by the first one and I didn’t expect to like it so much. To have the possibility to read the second volume just after the first one was awesome. I think I even prefer this one despite the other was really good too. If you want a good investigation, some paranormal stuff and a story you can’t put down until the end, do not hesitate, this book is for you!

So it’s true we don’t have the rest of the Devlin’s story, something I was impatient to read, but this deception didn’t last, hell no! So many things happen in this book, things we can’t even wonder about. Like in the first book the investigation is very interesting and we only want to have all our answers.
Amelia is hired in a small town to restore a neglected graveyard. But what a surprise, when she arrives the people doesn’t even know why she is here. They just want her to leave their city and soon. Indeed, it’s this city which intrigues me at first, everything here is so strange and I don’t even speak about the persons who live there.
Amanda Stevens succeeded to create an oppressive and intriguing atmosphere all along the story and it allows us to really understand the Amelia discomfort around her. We ask ourselves a lot of questions about each character in this ghost town. Everyone is so secret, they hide so many things, it’s really interesting. And what can we say about Thane? This man who tries to charm Amelia as soon as he sees her. He is so mysterious, so interesting, and so desirous to learn more about our heroine. And, we only want one thing: learn more about him!
It’s impossible to put the book down until the end of the story. Indeed, we learn the true little by little, exacerbating our curiosity continually. We fall in love with Angus this beaten, heart breaking dog. It’s so nice to see Amelia with this little fantastic animal.
I didn’t expect all these revelations we learn at the end of the book. We can only be surprised, it’s awesome. It allows us to understand a little more our heroine, her gifts and her relationship with her family. And now we have some new questions (Yes!!! Again!). I can’t wait the third book to know more about them. I have to confess I was more than happy to read this second novel so fast but… How will I wait the third one??? Well if you don’t know this series yet, I recommend it, you won’t be disappointed.

  1. You’re giving it 5/5 AND your recommendation?? This book just got a whole lot better! 😉 I love it when you read a book not expecting to like it but end up loving, and I love it even more when you like the sequel better than the first because that’s EXACTLY as it should be! Angus sounds so adorable and Amelia’s nickname really makes me smile too! x)

Amazing review, Mel! You just made me want to read more about this fun Graveyard Queen!! 🙂

  2. I’ve never heard of this book before I love any books about graveyards and dark secrets (really who doesn’t!?) I’ll have to check out book 1 it sounds like it’d be right up my alley!

  3. I was exactly the same as you – I turned the last page of this book and was despairing because I needed book 3 already! I agree that she creates a fabulous, creepy feeling. I think the creepiest scenes were in the first book, though, when she got stuck in the crypt. Loved the review!
