Sins of the Demon by Diana Rowland

Kara Gillian, Book 4

Synopsis: The homicide beat in Louisiana isn’t just terrifying, it’s demonic. Detective Kara Gilligan of the supernatural task force has the ability to summon demons to her aid, but she herself is pledged to serve a demonic lord. And now, people who’ve hurt Kara in the past are dropping dead for no apparent reason. To clear her name and save both the demon and human worlds, she’s in a race against the clock and in a battle for her life that just may take her to hell and back.

Review: I’m always happy to read a new adventure of Kara Gillian. Diana Rowland is a master in the art of creating intrigues that keep us in suspense throughout each of her stories. This one is a great example.

Kara must once again face the consequences of her association with her demon. But even with a bodyguard out of the ordinary, her protection is still quite complicated. Well, this is not reassuring when someone tries to call her in the demon’s world, and although she does her possible to not answer, the danger is closer each day. However, our young heroine must also deal with a wave of strange deaths. In fact, after having discovered the bodies of two people, Kara realizes that the victims are familiar to her and that she had already met them in the past. But our conjurer has many enemies everywhere whether in among the humans or demons and finding the culprit who tries to trap her seems more complicated than expected.

I confess that I was looking forward the meetings between Kara and Rhyzkahl, but I quickly realized that this time they would be much more limited. I was a little disappointed, it’s true, because we only see him a few moments in the story. The rhythm of the story, however, helps us to forget this fact, as we’re carried away by the plot. Because, yes, of course, many things happen throughout the chapters and it is therefore not possible to get bored for a second. Once started, I was really curious to discover all the answers to my questions, and I could not put the book down before finishing it. The third volume introduced us many elements that are developed here. So we learn much more about Ryan (yes, his secret is revealed a little more each time), but it is not everything.

The writing style is fluid and it is very easy to get into the story. It might have been easier to find who was behind the murders. Well of course, I didn’t know all the ramifications of the story before the author reveals them to us, but it was the first book in which I could know a part of the truth before Kara realizes she same. However, the end is terrible, a big change is coming and we hope to have quickly the next book to understand what will happen and how they will manage to face it. To conclude, it was a very good new book, mixing mystery, conspiracy, murder and demons. And as always, I look forward for further events.
