Angelopolis by Danielle Trussoni

Angelology, Book 2

Synopsis: A New York Times bestseller and global sensation, Angelology unfurled a brilliant tapestry of myth and biblical lore on our present-day world and plunged two star-crossed heroes into an ancient battle against mankind’s greatest enemy: the fatally attractive angel-human hybrids known as the Nephilim. With Angelopolis, the conflict deepens into an inferno of danger and passion unbound.

A decade has passed since Verlaine saw Evangeline alight from the Brooklyn Bridge, the sight of her new wings a betrayal that haunts him still. Now an elite angel hunter for the Society of Angelology, he pursues his mission with single-minded devotion: to capture, imprison, and eliminate her kind.

But when Evangeline suddenly appears on a twilit Paris street, Verlaine finds her nature to be unlike any of the other creatures he so mercilessly pursues, casting him into a spiral of doubt and confusion that only grows when she is abducted before his eyes by a creature who has topped the society’s most-wanted list for more than a century. The ensuing chase drives Verlaine and his fellow angelologists from the shadows of the Eiffel Tower to the palaces of St. Petersburg and deep into the provinces of Siberia and the Black Sea coast, where the truth of Evangeline’s origins—as well as forces that could restore or annihilate them all—lie in wait.

Review: I must say that I totally fell in love with the cover of this novel. How could it be different? And I can tell you it is even more beautiful when you have it in front of you! A wonderful work! But of course the cover is not everything and I’m sure you’re wondering what it is about the story.

Firstly I must confess that I have not read the first book and given the kind of book that Angelopolis is, I was a little afraid of being lost, but it was not at all the case. I really felt like discovering a first volume and thus I understood easily the history and the world of the author. We discover Verlaine, a young man chasing Nephilim in the world. He has a very promising future in this job especially with the help of his boss: Bruno, but he also has a weakness. This said: Evangeline. Why is that? This young woman, raised as a human like any other, is transformed into a creature we don’t know the origins. But Verlaine has a soft spot for her and even more than that, and when he discovers that she is in trouble and that someone wants to kill her, he is determined to cross the world to help her. And it is not a mystery or a prison that will prevent that.

I loved to follow these two characters. Verlaine and Evangeline are two very intriguing persons and I was curious to understand who this young woman really was. It was touching to see how our hunter was determined to save and help her whatever happens. This novel allows us to travel around the world and to discover a story featuring the Romanovs. I was really surprised by this fact because I did not expect that at all. I love stories like that and it’s interesting to learn more this way. Across the years, we discover the meaning of Faberge eggs, something I did not know anything about either. But I think the thing that I liked the most was the explanation of the origins of our beloved Evangeline. It was a big surprising revelation. Past and present are mingled together, affecting the lives of all the characters, blending historical facts and biblical angels alongside humans. A unique mix that takes us through the centuries.

If like me you did not know this novel and you are curious about a world narrating historical facts, I advise you to discover this second volume as I read it with great pleasure. By the end, I must say I’m curious to see what will really happen to our heroes now. I wanted a happy ending but it is not bad either and it opens a lot of possibilities.
