Cinderella Screwed Me Over by Cindi Madsen

Synopsis: Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She’s sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she’s happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she’s culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.
Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?

Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp.

Review: I loved the idea of the novel, and I did not need more than a pretty cover (for the French edition), and the mention of Cinderella to make me completely curious. And I must say that I was more surprised by the story than I would have thought, but I’ll come back to that later.

Darby is a young woman completely jaded by love and fairy tales. After a long time she realized that relationships weren’t for her anymore and that true love does not exist, or at least it does not last long. It really broke my hurt to see her like that and at the same time we understand her point of view after all the failures she has felt. For that, she established many rules so she can not fall in love and especially not be fooled and suffer again and again. Yet one man will turn everything upside down. Therefore when she meets Jake, this charming young man, she does not know what to do or what to think about him… But she is determined to resist until the end and she makes him understand that she is not trying to form a couple. She will, however, fall into her own trap .

I loved Jake! I really do not know how he can accept all the Darby’s rules and arguments. Yes, because I must say she is often hurtful and harsh on him when he only tries to know her. I’m really impressed by his determination and self-control. He will do anything to make her succumb yet he also has some limits with this kind of rejection. Let’s talk about Darby … This young woman throw herself in her work body and soul so she can forget about love stories in all circumstances, even to the point of destroying her own happiness. It was frustrating and sometimes annoying to see her behave this way! We would like to shake her so she realizes what is happening. I was really curious to see how her relationship would evolve eventually.

I also loved the way the story was written, referring to all those Disney fairy tales that we all know. We have a prince for each Darby’s love story and it was fun to read them. It was really a good idea and it allows us to understand her feelings. So you can understand, it was a very pleasant story to read and I am curious about the other writings of the author. A nice little story about Darby and Jake.
