Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson,Book 7

Synopsis: Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman – the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack – has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more. After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam – or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted. Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

Review: It’s been a while since I bought this novel… well since its release elsewhere, but because of a lack of time, I didn’t read it. As I decided to stop leaving the books waiting for me in my TBR pile and with the release of Volume 8 (book I already have in fact), I thought it was time to start it. And I can tell you that as usual Patricia Briggs gives us another great story.

We find our dear Mercy with her life turned upside on early in the novel. In fact, when she was on a trip with Jesse, it turns out that the whole pack and Adam himself had been abducted by a group belonging to the government. It is then a race against time which begins for our heroes who must understand how to get out of this new situation. Between Adam who faces his attackers and have to decide if he can save his pack before agreeing to do what his captors want, and Mercy who is determined to save the man she loves whatever the price, we will really have a lot of things going on. And while the story unfolds, I admit that I was very surprised to find the reason behind this kidnapping, as well as the identity of the person responsible because I did not really expect that. I think it is also simply impossible to have even a beginning of a hypothesis about that! Yes because when you think things are beginning to solve, everything is just beginning.

It was a real pleasure to see Mercy and see that she is ready to do anything to help the people she loves. And then the consequences can sometimes be pretty terrible, as the remonstrance of Adam, she just can not let things go without acting. It was very interesting to see what she could do, because we discover some new elements about her too. Of course, as always, it is really lovely to see how our two heroes are here for each other, more in love than ever and still very worried about the health of their mate. But we also have the chance to meet new characters as Asil, a particular wolf, a man known to be a very good killer and who could prove to be an ally of choice. But it’s not just him and we meet a new vampire that I hope we meet again soon! Moreover there is more and we also have some characters we love and it was a real pleasure to see Stefan gain, helping the young woman. But that’s not all, because we also have Zee and Tad and many others. But I’ll let you discover them for yourself. I can certainly tell you that I was really impressed by the end and I was eager to see how Mercy was going to solve this new big problem.

Finally, as you will surely understand, it was a very good novel and I’m starting immediately in the next to find out more. I heartily recommend this series if you do not know it yet. It is a nice mix of creatures in all kinds, magic and non-stop action.

  1. AHHHH I love this series! Fantastic review, and I’m glad to hear you’ll be starting immediately on the next book, because I’m really looking forward to see what you’ll think. Let’s just say Night Broken got quite the reaction from me, and I can’t wait to see your review 😀

  2. I know this series but still have to read it. I’ve always heard great things about it, though, and I find fantastic that you’re so into it that you’re already grabbing the next instalment! Hope you’re going to love it as much as this one! 🙂

  3. So glad you gave it full marks 🙂 Absolutely love all of Patricia Briggs ‘Mercy Thompson series’ and her ‘Alpha and Omega series’ !

      • I read it, and you’re right I just LOVED it, even more than this one. And well it’s true, it was interesting to learn more about Honey. I loved her here and well Christy lol, I think Mercy was a lot more nicer than I should have been. But I confess I’m a little mixed with her Alpha and Omega series… not as good.

  4. I have not read this series yet but I have heard so many good things about this author so I would have to check her books out one day! I’m finishing up K.Cole’s Immortals After Dark series so maybe after that I’ll check this one out. Great review Melliane 🙂

  7. I’ve heard a lot about the series but haven’t actually read them yet myself, but it’s still great that this far into a series that it can still surprise you, and addicting enough to keep you reading. I know a lot of series (especially long ones like the Morganville ones) that draaag, and I actually gave up on Morganville after books 7…I think. Can’t even remember, haha.
