Darkness Splintered by Keri Arthur

Dark Angels, Book 6

Synopsis: When Risa loses the second key to hell, she angers several powerful people, and she’s starting to feel the pressure from all sides. She gets a visit from her father, who gives her an ultimatum: Get back the key or he will kill her friends.

Risa also finds herself under the scrutiny of the vampire council, some of whom consider her a monster who should be destroyed. But they offer her a bloody bargain: Take on the lethal head of the council, Madeline Hunter, and others will support her.

As the search for the keys to hell heats up, Risa realizes that she has no choice. For the sake of the people she loves, she must find the keys — and get rid of Hunter — before the second gate is opened and brings the world closer to all hell breaking loose…

Review: Here we are again left for more Risa Jone’s adventures and again, she will have plenty to do. I was a little less carried away by this one I confess, perhaps this is due to the fact that the story seems a bit redundant in the end, but I still had a good time with this new novel.

Our heroine is as always looking for the keys, but with the Lucian’s death, and the disappearance of the second key, everyone is desperate. But the time for threats is finite and all the Risa’s enemies will take action to put pressure on our young women. Between her father and his ultimatum, Hunter who kills a major character in the story and the last group who waits for her to see what will happen, her life gets more complicated. But she will not be alone, and witches will always be there to help her, as well as our reaper, even Stane or Rhoan for the little he can do. But the story forward and the noose is tightening, and Risa will soon have to get things in order to find the second key, remove the witch from her list and manage her feelings with her dear reaper.

As I said, I think this volume is a bit long, or maybe is it the series? But that does not stop me from being interested in the whole thing. It is true that I am curious to see how it will end and how Risa will manage all the parties involved. I was also surprised to learn more about Hunter, about her real identity and what she is capable to do to achieve her goal. I was quite surprised by the end of the novel by cons and it is true that I did not expect at all for this event, but I’m curious to see how it will impact for the rest of the story. I was also quite sad by the death of a character from the beginning of the novel. When Hunter announces that she killed a Risa’s friend, all names have passed through my mind, but it was a surprise nonetheless.

It was a good book and I’ll finish the series, even if I’m not mistaken, the last book is the next novel. I’m curious to see how it will end and what Risa will have to do to end all this.

  1. I haven’t read this, shucks why is my blog called Talk Supe when it’s missing out on a lot of greats?!?! What a shame!

I do have some of her books, I should really get to them soon.

  2. Book 6? Geez, I’m really out of the loop on this one! I read my first Keri Arthur book earlier this year and really enjoyed it, so I’ll definitely be picking up more by her. Maybe I need to go back and start this series! Looking forward to your thoughts on the final book!

  3. Sometimes, I think if they make the series too long, it starts to lose something along the way.
I’ve seen this with a few different series that started out really strong but after the 5th book or so, it just got repetitious.
I’m glad it’s still holding your interest, though!
    Great review, as always, Melliane!

  4. Here is another Keri Arthur book review and once again I keep thinking I should try her, but then again I haven’t read a review for one of her books that gets me excited. Most of them are just average. I want a wow book and I don’t think this one did it for you.

  5. From what I been hearing from you and your reviews this series started off on a high note and now lately the last few installments have been able to match that pace which kind of sucks. That being said, this one sounds super entertaining and I did make a mental note to start this series soon!

  6. I think that’s a hard thing to do with a long series, to keep it from getting redundant. I hate it when the author tries to make the books longer but really just crams in more of the same, more action without more story. (I’m totally thinking of the Dresden files here even though I really liked that series)

  7. I can see this book being a victim of a series going for too long it happens ;/ sometimes I guess you just have to know when to stop, sorry you didn’t fully enjoyed it, but at least it didn’t completely bore you.
