Celine’s adventures: It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Celine is a French blogger who writes some fictional reviews about the books she loves the most and they always make me laugh. I hope the humor even if translated is kept. Thanks for her reviews.

Chicago Stars, Book 1

Synopsis: What if a woman who knows nothing about sports inherits a professional football team? The Windy City definitely isn’t ready for Phoebe Somerville, the outrageous York knockout who’s taking over their home town team. And Phoebe is definitely not prepared for the Stars’ head coach Dan Calebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. This is the book that began it all. The Chicago Stars are about to take the field… and they’re not the only ones playing for keeps.

——————————————————

I walk in my room while gnawing my nails for nearly twenty minutes. Soon, I’ll have stumps instead of fingers. I should hurry, I may be late, and I am convinced that the Red-head-lady-General-in-Chief will not appreciate it. I butte on the mat and hold myself to my desk to avoid falling on the floor. I really don’t want to make a bruise.
I feel ashamed. Yes ashamed. Because I did it again, and I can not feel guilty about my re re re re fall. I’ll have to go there and say: Hello, my name is Livre-vie, and I’m a books-addict, and then confessing my fault, that of having been tempted by a used not very young book, on the football topic, which is over 600 pages, and I devoured it in no time.

I have to say that I’ve vibrated for Phoebe and her difficult past, this broken being despite an apparent assurance, and Dan, a coach who could make dream more than one (I think we should consider creating a fan club for ideal guys …). I’m sure my friends from the books-addict circle would love Dan elsewhere, and Ron too, and Viktor also because the author really knew how to make them endearing.

I have to admit, on a chair that hurts my butt (and I’m not sure that the General-in-Chief appreciates that I bring a cushion, she is not a funny one…), that loving the lively and humorous pen is an almost capital sin, and the Cerberus-General-in-Chief will still insist on having all of the book’s details to put it on the list of the banned books. I am even sure she’ll ask me to give it to her, I who had thought I would lend it to my gentle friends.

Because it’s a bit like that, the Chicago Stars, it’s a little book that will lend in an envelope because the French cover is kitsch at will, but it’s one we speak about with friends around a hot chocolate (or a glass of white wine!) giggling like idiots.

I sit on the bed

I wonder if I could not make a quick prayer to the gods-of-all-the-things-to-the-land-of-sky-and-the-sea so they can forgive me for not going. Maybe I could convince them that it’s not so bad. But the ground is really hard, I might hurt my knees become too sensitive, and I’m not sure they will listen to me.

It’s that they’re determined! They say that I have a disease that pushes me to commit serious sins, to have inadequate prohibited readings. I do not mind, I’m only a weak mortal after all. They say that I should ask for forgiveness, in the hope to be cured. This is what I do. But do I feel better as a result? I never feel better than when I read a good romance that transports me, no offense to the gods …
I keep biting my nails, metallic taste invades my mouth and I suppresses a cry of pain. I went too far. If I’m not careful, I’ll stain my duvet.

I do not understand all this, I just know one thing, I’ll be late, and I will have a sore buttocks.

And I’ll have to talk with my friends in the group and quickly …
