Review: And here is finally the last book in the Riley Jenson saga. Before the Risa Jones series, I wanted to know the end of the adventures of our beloved wolf. I always have a little trouble with conclusions, it is always so difficult to close a saga with one book, to give a worthy story after all the volumes that we have read before. But ultimately this volume is not really an end in itself as Riley is again present in Risa Jones. This is also a very nice surprise! But back to this volume.

Our young heroine has managed to survive the death of her soul mate, something that it is quite extraordinary in itself, but still hangs over her the constant reminder of what she can not have now. Furthermore, the absence of Kade is felt and even if Riley does her best to keep her head above water, it is a bit difficult. But she will not have much respite time as some quite strange murders are perpetrated! Indeed, it seems that a man dressed as a demon is killing former criminals on request and the agency is determined to find the culprit. Riley needs this job to think about something else but luckily Quinn will always be there to help and support her whatever happens. But everything will be complicated when Blake decides to put his threat into execution and to avenge his former humiliation. So yes, Riley will have many other problems.

It was really a very good volume and I was curious to see how our wolf would be able to get away this time. I must say that it’s not easy for her and she faces many problems by herself. We’re sad for her throughout the story, hoping everything will work out and so she can finally live the life she wants to. But everything seems more complicated than expected.

This novel will allow us to learn a little more about Riley and her family and it was nice to have elements to better understand them. Her relationship with Quinn will allow her to survive and to have a purpose in life. They really are perfect for each other and we take a great pleasure in seeing them together. Both characters have evolved since the beginning of the series, as each character. A new life is now open to them and I hope we’ll learn more through the second Keri Arthur’s series. The author also presents us a very nice final, concluding what had started earlier.

Mais quitter le Directoire n’est pas si simple. Et tandis que Riley se lance dans une nouvelle enquête, un vieil ennemi refait surface, bien déterminé à lui arracher tout ce qui donne un sens à sa vie : son amant, son frère et même son identité. Riley survivra-t-elle à cette ultime attaque ?

Avis : Et voici enfin le dernier tome de la saga Riley Jenson. Avant de commencer le Risa Jones, j’avais envie de connaître la fin des aventures de notre chère louve. J’ai toujours un peu de mal avec les conclusions, c’est difficile de clore une saga sur un livre, de trouver une histoire digne de tous les tomes que l’on a lu avant. Mais finalement ce tome n’est pas vraiment une fin en soi comme Riley est de nouveau présente dans la série de Risa Jones. Ce qui est d’ailleurs une très jolie surprise ! Mais revenons à ce tome pour le moment.

Notre jeune héroïne a réussi à survivre à la mort de son âme sœur, chose qui est assez extraordinaire en soit, mais plane toujours au-dessus d’elle le rappel constant de tout ce qu’elle ne peut plus avoir à présent. De plus l’absence de Kade se fait ressentir et même si Riley fait de son mieux pour garder la tête hors de l’eau, c’est un peu difficile. Mais elle n’aura pas beaucoup de temps de répit quand des meurtres assez étranges sont perpétrés ! En effet, il semble qu’un homme déguisé en démon  assassine d’anciens criminels sur demande et le directoire est bien décidé à trouver le coupable. Riley a besoin de ce travail pour penser à autre chose mais heureusement, Quinn sera toujours là pour l’aider et la supporter quoi qu’il se passe. Mais tout va se compliquer quand Blake décide de mettre sa menace passée à exécution pour se venger de son ancienne humiliation. Riley aura alors de nombreux autres problèmes.

C’était vraiment un très bon tome et j’étais curieuse de voir comment notre louve allait pouvoir s’en sortir cette fois ci. Il faut dire qu’elle n’est vraiment pas ménagée et doit affronter de nombreux problèmes par elle-même. On est triste pour elle tout au long de l’histoire, espérant que tout s’arrange et qu’elle puisse enfin vivre la vie qu’elle désire. Mais tout semble plus compliqué que prévu.

Ce roman nous permettra d’en apprendre un peu plus sur Riley et sa famille et c’était agréable d’avoir des éléments nous permettant de mieux la comprendre. Sa relation avec Quinn va lui permettre de survivre et d’avoir un but dans la vie. Ils sont vraiment parfaits l’un pour l’autre et on prend un grand plaisir à les voir ensemble. Les deux personnages ont beaucoup évolué depuis le début de la série, de même que chaque personnage. Une nouvelle vie s’ouvre maintenant à eux et j’espère que nous en apprendrons plus grâce à la deuxième série de Keri Arthur. L’auteur nous présente d’ailleurs un très joli final, concluant tout ce qui avait commencé auparavant.

Review: Ah I approach slowly the end of the series. I really wonder how the last book will be but gradually the events are taking place and it allows us to have an idea. It was a good book but it is true that after having the sex part calmed down, it starts over again here. It does not bother me but I know it was one of the points bothering a lot of readers.

Riley continues her life quietly, managing her boyfriend Quinn and her work. But when she meets Kye on a survey at the beginning of the book, things get complicated. It must be said that after their separation, our young heroine doesn’t expect to see him so soon. But he is there and determined to take back what he considers as his own, which means of course mean our little wolf. And though she resists as much as possible, it is impossible to oppose his soul mate, especially when he does everything to possess her. And he knows how to press the sensitive points to get what he wants, even if he needs to threaten Riley’s love ones. She therefore has no real choice in the matter and she wants him to understand that. In addition to this, our wolf investigates about some very strange deaths. Vampires are beheaded the ones after the other, without any logic and young women are also found dead without reasons. Our guardian is determined to understand what is happening and to find out who is behind this. However, it is complicated to work when Kye follows the trace, doing everything possible to encroach on everything she does.

It was a new good novel, and it allows us to learn once again a little more about Quinn. It was interesting to see some bits of his past. It’s very nice to see our little couple so in love and sufficient to each other. Riley has changed a lot since the first novels and has more control over herself and her nature. However, the arrival of Kye will change everything, I was quite surprised to see how nothing mattered except his own choices. It is petty, sarcastic and selfish … it’s a character we hate pretty easily. It’s really sad to see how he treats Riley. And yet in his own way he cares about her, the only concern is that it is also a weakness and he is determined to change it even if he has to kill all the people around her.

New events are looming here, the consequences will be reflected in the next volume. I’m quite curious to see what comes of it, and to understand how Riley will come out of everything. We find all the characters that we know and it was a pleasure to hear about them. I was however very surprised about the end that the author presents us. A big change and an explosive upheaval for everyone. Curious to learn more.

Riley Jenson, Tome 8

résumé : Riley Jenson mène l’enquête sur d’horribles meurtres perpétrés dans un club où se rencontrent vampires et humains accros à leur morsure. Le temps lui est compté car la tension entre les deux groupes monte dangereusement. Et pour ne rien arranger, Riley doit jongler avec deux amants jaloux : Kye, le loup-garou, et Quinn, le vampire. Mais son enquête risque bien de revenir au premier plan car l’assassin sait où la trouver depuis un moment…

Avis : Ah je me rapproche petit à petit de la fin de la série. Je me demande vraiment comment se profilera le dernier tome mais petit à petit les événements se mettent en place et nous permettent d’en avoir une petite idée. C’était un bon roman mais c’est vrai qu’après s’être un peu calmé côté sexe, on reprend de plus belle ici. Ça ne m’a pas vraiment dérangé en soit mais je sais que c’était un des points que reprennent beaucoup de lecteurs.

Riley continue sa vie tranquillement, gérant son petit ami Quinn et son travail. Mais quand elle rencontre Kye sur une enquête dès le début du livre, tout se complique. Il faut dire qu’après leur séparation, notre jeune héroïne ne s’attendait pas à le voir aussi tôt. Mais si, il est là et bien décidé à reprendre ce qu’il considère comme lui appartenant, ce qui veut bien sûr dire notre petite louve. Et bien qu’elle résiste le plus possible, il est impossible de s’opposer à ce point à son âme sœur, surtout quand celui-ci fait tout pour la posséder. Et il sait comment appuyer sur les points sensibles pour obtenir ce qu’il veut, voire même menacer les proches de Riley. Elle n’a donc pas vraiment de choix en la matière mais ne se gêne pas pour le lui faire comprendre. En plus de cela, notre louve enquête sur des morts très étranges. Des vampires se font décapiter les uns après les autres, sans aucune logique et des jeunes femmes sont retrouvées mortes sans motifs. Notre gardienne est bien décidée à comprendre ce qu’il se passe et à découvrir qui est derrière tout cela. Il est cependant compliqué de faire son travail quand Kye la suit à la trace, faisant tout son possible pour empiéter sur tout ce qu’elle accomplit.

C’était un nouveau bon roman, et il nous permet d’en apprendre encore une fois un peu plus au sujet de Quinn. C’était intéressant de connaître quelques bribes de son passé. C’est très plaisant de voir notre petit couple si amoureux et se suffisant à l’un et l’autre. Riley a beaucoup changé depuis les premiers romans et possède un plus grand contrôle sur elle-même et sa nature. Cependant, l’arrivée de Kye va tout chambouler, j’étais assez surprise de voir à quel point rien ne l’importait à part ses propres choix. Il est mesquin, sarcastique et égoïste… c’est un personnage que l’on déteste assez facilement. C’est vraiment triste de voir comment il traite Riley sans qu’elle ne puisse à y redire. Et en même temps à sa propre manière il tient à elle, le seul souci c’est que c’est aussi une faiblesse et qu’il est bien décidé à la changer même s’il doit tuer tous les gens autour d’elle.

De nouveaux événements se profilent ici dont les conséquences vont se répercuter dans le prochain tome. Je suis assez curieuse de voir ce que ça donnera, et de comprendre comment Riley s’en sortira. On retrouve tous les personnages que l’on connait et c’était un plaisir d’avoir de leurs nouvelles. J’ai été cependant très surprise par la fin que l’auteure nous présente. Un gros changement et un bouleversement détonnant pour chacun. Curieuse d’en apprendre plus.

Review: I loved the first book and it’s true that I waited impatiently for the second volume to see what the author had in store for us once again. I think that I was a little less carried away this time but I had again a great time with the story and the characters.

As in the first volume, a premonitory dream will launch our heroine, and Jackson, on a new investigation. Indeed, it seems that a strange creature is in town, leaving corpses in her way. As it was eating on freshly dead people, it seems that it now wants to turn to the living, and the youngest, the best. Then, it’s up to Emberly to understand what is happening and to stop the creature before it kills someone. But this quest will also lead her to cross the path of her ex, Sam, and thus to face all the feelings she is trying to bury deep within herself. Yet that’s not all … In fact, our characters will also face the consequences of the first volume, that is to say the becoming of the humans into something else because of the epidemic that is spreading elsewhere more and more. It also seems that many conspiracies are running over it all.

Many things are mixed in this novel, many events and it is quite important to remain attentive to the details not to get lost in the story. By cons, it is true that we learn a little more about the Jackson’s past, about the life of the phoenixes or even about the reason for the sudden change of attitude for Sam. I confess that I suspected about the revelation, as well as the identity of the villain of the story, but it’s true that it was interesting to learn more. By cons is true that I was really surprised by the new type of creature that Keri Arthur brought us here and the author reserves us many things about it.

Of course, the story between Sam and Emberly remains very tense and I wonder if one day the tensions will diminish a little bit so they could talk a little more about what they want both. This relationship makes me think of the one between Quinn and Riley from the Riley Jenson series and I wonder if the purpose will be the same.

In any case it was a good second book and I’m curious to see what the next book will present us.

Résumé (traduction personnelle) : Crimson Death, la peste engendrée d’une expérience du gouvernement pour isoler les enzymes qui font des vampires des immortels, continue de se propager. Emberly et son partenaire, Jackson Miller, cherchent désespérément les recherches volées d’un remède avant que le virus ne devienne une pandémie.

Mais leur mission est compromise par une autre menace découverte dans les rêves prophétiques d’Emberly. Une créature de cendres et de l’ombre a déclenché une frénésie de meurtres. Maintenant Emberly doit utiliser tous ses dons et connaissances d’enquête pour mettre fin à cette entité, même si cela signifie se mettre en danger par la même occasion….

Avis : J’avais adoré le premier tome et c’est vrai que j’attendais avec grande impatience de second tome pour voir ce que l’auteure nous réservait une fois de plus. Je pense avoir été un peu moins emportée cette fois-ci mais j’ai passé à nouveau un très bon moment avec l’histoire et les personnages.

Comme dans le premier tome, un rêve prémonitoire va lancer notre héroïne, de même que Jackson, sur une nouvelle enquête. En effet, il semble qu’une créature étrange soit en ville, semant des morts dans son sillage. Alors qu’elle se sustentait sur les personnes fraichement mortes, il semblerait qu’elle veuille maintenant se tourner vers les vivants, et plus jeunes ils sont, mieux c’est. C’est alors à Emberly de comprendre ce qu’il se passe et d’arrêter la créature avant qu’elle ne s’en prenne à quelqu’un. Mais cette quête va aussi la conduire à croiser la route de son ex Sam et donc aussi à faire face à tous les sentiments qu’elle essaie d’enfouir au plus profond d’elle-même. Pourtant ce n’est pas tout… En effet, nos personnages font aussi face aux conséquences du premier volume, c’est-à-dire aux humains devenus autre chose à cause de l’épidémie qui se répand d’ailleurs de plus en plus. Il semblerait d’ailleurs que de nombreux complots soient en marche par rapport à tout cela.

Beaucoup de choses se mélangent dans ce roman, beaucoup d’évènements et il est assez important de rester attentif aux détails pour ne pas se perdre dans l’histoire. Par contre, c’est vrai que l’on en apprend un peu plus sur le passé de Jackson, sur la vie finalement des phénix ou même sur la raison du changement si brutal qui est apparu pour Sam. J’avoue que je m’en doutais un peu, tout comme l’identité du méchant de l’histoire mais c’est vrai que c’était intéressant d’en apprendre plus. Par contre c’est vrai que j’ai été vraiment surprise par le nouveau type de créature que Keri Arthur nous introduit ici et l’auteure nous réserve beaucoup de choses à ce sujet.

Bien sur, l’histoire entre Sam et Emberly reste toujours très tendue et je me demande si un jour les tensions diminueront un peu pour qu’ils puissent discuter un peu plus de ce qu’ils désirent tous les deux. Cette relation me fait un peu penser à celle entre Quinn et Riley de la série Riley Jenson et je me demande si la finalité sera la même.

Dans tous les cas c’était un bon second tome et je suis curieuse de voir ce que la suite nous réservera une fois encore.

Review: Reading directly Volume 7 after Volume 6 was a real pleasure. Of course, there is a new investigation, new frightening murders and new characters. An explosive mix.

Riley is given a case featuring murdered girls and zombies which we do not really understand the existence or even their goal. This is already a rather complicated matter in itself but when vampires are also killed, including one of Jack’s friends, things become much more complicated. Would I forget to mention the presence of Kye, the wolf we had met in a previous book, throughout the story? I was immediately intrigued by this character, we learn a few more things about him but it forces us to ask many more questions. His nature is more complicated, and I looked forward to understand what he really was and what he was capable of. We wonder from the beginning what he wants and what he desires from Riley. But it is true that I realized pretty quickly about the revelations given at the end of the book, but it was interesting to see them both evolve throughout the story. Especially their verbal sparring.

This volume shows a facet of the executive board that I had not yet seen. Indeed, the investigation that we follow is very quickly resolved, and we unmask the culprit in one of the first parts of the story. However, this time, our young heroine needs to find some evidences and this research is ultimately more difficult to elucidate. I did not really expect the reasons for the killings, but I think it’s a blur. However, many issues have surprised me through the chapters.

I enjoyed the relationship between Quinn and Riley in this volume. They become a real couple and it is very nice to read the scenes where they are together. We understand that it is difficult for them to actually accept what is happening and to make concessions but their feelings eventually help them to change their way of life, something that was not possible in the previous volumes.

The story quickly carried me away and I have to say that this volume is a watershed in the life of our heroine. I am very curious to read the next novel to understand how Riley will be able to manage her life now. I must say that everything is complicated.
