La Faille de la Nuit de Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson, Tome 8

Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson,Book 7

Synopsis: Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman – the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack – has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more. After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam – or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted. Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

Review: It’s been a while since I bought this novel… well since its release elsewhere, but because of a lack of time, I didn’t read it. As I decided to stop leaving the books waiting for me in my TBR pile and with the release of Volume 8 (book I already have in fact), I thought it was time to start it. And I can tell you that as usual Patricia Briggs gives us another great story.

We find our dear Mercy with her life turned upside on early in the novel. In fact, when she was on a trip with Jesse, it turns out that the whole pack and Adam himself had been abducted by a group belonging to the government. It is then a race against time which begins for our heroes who must understand how to get out of this new situation. Between Adam who faces his attackers and have to decide if he can save his pack before agreeing to do what his captors want, and Mercy who is determined to save the man she loves whatever the price, we will really have a lot of things going on. And while the story unfolds, I admit that I was very surprised to find the reason behind this kidnapping, as well as the identity of the person responsible because I did not really expect that. I think it is also simply impossible to have even a beginning of a hypothesis about that! Yes because when you think things are beginning to solve, everything is just beginning.

It was a real pleasure to see Mercy and see that she is ready to do anything to help the people she loves. And then the consequences can sometimes be pretty terrible, as the remonstrance of Adam, she just can not let things go without acting. It was very interesting to see what she could do, because we discover some new elements about her too. Of course, as always, it is really lovely to see how our two heroes are here for each other, more in love than ever and still very worried about the health of their mate. But we also have the chance to meet new characters as Asil, a particular wolf, a man known to be a very good killer and who could prove to be an ally of choice. But it’s not just him and we meet a new vampire that I hope we meet again soon! Moreover there is more and we also have some characters we love and it was a real pleasure to see Stefan gain, helping the young woman. But that’s not all, because we also have Zee and Tad and many others. But I’ll let you discover them for yourself. I can certainly tell you that I was really impressed by the end and I was eager to see how Mercy was going to solve this new big problem.

Finally, as you will surely understand, it was a very good novel and I’m starting immediately in the next to find out more. I heartily recommend this series if you do not know it yet. It is a nice mix of creatures in all kinds, magic and non-stop action.

La Morsure du givre de Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson, Tome 7

Crave the Darkness ~ Amanda Bonilla

Binding the Shadows (Arcadia Bell, 3) – Jenn Bennett

Renegade mage and bartender Arcadia Bell has had a rough year, but now the door to her already unstable world is unhinging. When a citywide crime wave erupts, Cady’s demon-friendly tiki bar is robbed by Earthbounds wielding surreal demonic abilities that just flat-out shouldn’t exist. With the help of her devilishly delicious boyfriend, Lon Butler, Cady sets out to find the people who wronged her—but her targets aren’t the only ones experiencing unnatural metamorphoses. Can Cady track down the monsters responsible before the monster inside her destroys everything—and everyone—she loves? If she survives this adventure, one thing is certain: it’s last call for life as she knows it.
Midnight Blue-Light Special (InCryptid, 2) – Seanan McGuire

Cryptid, noun:
1. Any creature whose existence has been suggested but not proven scientifically. Term officially coined by cryptozoologist John E. Wall in 1983.
2. That thing that’s getting ready to eat your head.
3. See also: “monster.”

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity–and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she’d rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and when her work with the cryptid community took her to Manhattan, she thought she would finally be free to pursue competition-level dance in earnest. It didn’t quite work out that way…

But now, with the snake cult that was killing virgins all over Manhattan finally taken care of, Verity is ready to settle down for some serious ballroom dancing—until her on-again, off-again, semi-boyfriend Dominic De Luca, a member of the monster-hunting Covenant of St. George, informs her that the Covenant is on their way to assess the city’s readiness for a cryptid purge. With everything and everyone she loves on the line, there’s no way Verity can take that lying down.

Alliances will be tested, allies will be questioned, lives will be lost, and the talking mice in Verity’s apartment will immortalize everything as holy writ–assuming there’s anyone left standing when all is said and done. It’s a midnight blue-light special, and the sale of the day is on betrayal, deceit…and carnage.

Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, 7) – Patricia Briggs

Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson’s life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related – and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from the most unlikely of allies: the vampire seethe.

Redemption (The Seven Signs, 2) – Erica Hayes

Japheth the Tainted is on the hunt for a mysterious demon vampire. But meeting her face-to-face might disarm his warrior spirit—and spark an unquenchable passion with apocalyptic consequences.

As a fallen angel, Japheth is determined to make his way back to heaven by staying pure and slaying hellspawn. With a new scourge of vampires unleashed by a blood-drinking demon, the Prince of Thirst, there’s plenty to be done. But Japheth is after one vampire in particular—the one they call the Angel Slayer.

Rose Harley never wanted to be a vampire, but the Prince of Thirst can turn even the kindest soul into a soldier of hell. Feeling abandoned by God, she stalks the West Village taking revenge on his angels—until she meets her match.

When Japheth and Rose encounter each other, the battle is fierce and charged with desire. But when they discover a common enemy—the Prince of Thirst himself—they form a dangerous alliance that could either cost them their eternal lives, or spark a love more powerful than heaven or hell.

The sweetest Temptation (Sexy Shifters Short, 2) – Amanda Bonilla

Andrew Paige wakes up in a motel room with no memory of what happened to him the night before. He has no idea how he got here…or why the state police believe he’s responsible for kidnapping a woman he’s never met!

Erica Ware is bound and determined to find her sister’s kidnapper and bring him to justice. As a wood nymph, she has special powers over men…and a unique way of extracting the truth.

But when the sparks start to fly and her wood nymph nature compels her to seek something other than revenge from the unbearably hot Andrew Paige, Erica can’t help but wonder if she’ll succumb to the sweet temptation of this sexy shifter before she can unravel the mystery of her sister’s disappearance…

The Sweetest Mercy (Sexy Shifters Short, 3) – Amanda Bonilla

Kidnapped and locked in a dark cave, Kiera Ware has resigned herself to madness. A wood nymph in the grip of a full-moon is guaranteed to lose her mind, literally, without sexual release. And since she’s been held captive and alone for three days, she knows that she could break at any moment…

Carter Hayes has been tracking the rouge shifter who kidnapped an innocent woman for no other reason than to hurt his alpha, Logan. After the loss of his mate nearly a century ago, Carter has stuck to what he knows best – excelling at his job and serving his pride – lonely, but honorable work.

When Carter shows up, Kiera thinks the too-sexy-to-be-true man must be a figment of her imagination…while Carter can’t deny the stirrings of his heart around this strange magical woman.

Running for their lives, Carter and Kiera might just find that sweet mercy they both so desperately need…if they can manage to stay alive!

Wolfsbane by Patricia Briggs (VO)

Aralorn, Book 2 / Sianim, Book 4

Synopsis: Shapeshifting mercenary Aralorn leads a dangerous existence. Now she must return home for her noble father, the Lyon of Lambshold, has passed away. But when Aralorn and her companion Wolf arrive, they find he’s not dead, but ensorcelled by the ae’Magi, using him as a conduit to destroy Aralorn and Wolf. She must overcome this mysterious mist or fall to the blackest of magic.

Review: I was really surprised by this book (Yes I’m lucky for now). The first book was really nice but I confess that some parts were a little too long for my taste, and therefore it was a little difficult for me. So I was expecting the same feelings for this novel, but it wasn’t the case. Indeed, I get into the story from the start until the end. This time, not long parts, no, it is the total opposite. The story isn’t boring at all, and I read the book quite quickly.
We can feel that the author’s writing style is more accomplished, and the text is more complex than the first book. Patricia Briggs explains to us before the story that she used a lot of points in this roman for her other books, and that we can find them easily. But I confess I get so much into the story that I didn’t see any similarities with other novels. But now after a few days, they may be some details that come to my mind, but I’m not sure.
We can find our Aralorn and Wolf in the castle of Lion, trying to elude the new problems. It was a pleasure to follow their new adventures. When I think at the end of the first volume, I hoped to learn more about the Aralorn’s family and about Lyon, my wish was granted. Not only we meet her whole family but we can also learn some information about her childhood and the reason of her departure. It was cute to see Wolf and our heroine closer. We were waiting that for so long, despite it’s always a little difficult for them. They are now both more mature and they know what they want for their lives.
What about the story? It was a pleasure to follow the mystery of the Lion’s death. We suspect what’s going on, but wolf and Aralorn’s hypothesizes are well conceived and we agree with them each time. Finally, even if we know some elements, we stay surprised when we learn the true.
I haven’t read book two and three of the Sianim’s series, but I can say that now I would be curious about them. But I confess I would prefer a third volume for our Aralorn. It must be difficult to change for another character now I enjoy this one.

L’épreuve du loup de Patricia Briggs

Aralorn, Tome 2 / Sianim, Tome 4

Masques by Patricia Briggs (VO)

Aralorn – Sianim, Book 1

Synopsis : Rewritten from the original story of 1993.

After an upbringing of proper behavior and oppressive expectations, Aralorn fled her noble birthright for a life of adventure as a mercenary spy.

Her latest mission involves spying on the increasingly powerful sorcerer Geoffrey ae’Magi.

But in a war against an enemy armed with the powers of illusion, how do you know who the true enemy is-or where he will strike next?
Review : It was a nice story. It was a long time since I haven’t read a fantasy book, and I’m glad it was this one.
We find two atypical characters, Aralorn and Wolf, who despite of their different natures, are really complementary. Aralorn is a young spy, determined to pursue her objectives although it’s very dangerous. Wolf is a character that we discover all along the book. Indeed, in the beginning, we don’t know anything about him but he will reveal himself to Aralorn who establishes some assumptions about him.
Our young heroine will team up with Wolf and Myr, a king on the run, to fight a powerful sorcerer : Ae’Magi who really wants to find his son and always wants more power.
I really like the world the author has built with all the bad and good creatures. If i would notice something, it would be about the descriptions. Indeed, there are some very long parts, and it was a little too much, but I still like this first novel.
I would love to know more about Aralorn and her father, and about the mother’s Wolf too.
