Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

Shopaholic, Book 9

Synopsis: Celebrate Christmas with the ultimate Shopaholic!

The brilliant laugh-out-loud festive novel from the Number One bestselling author.

Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) adores Christmas. It’s always the same – Mum and Dad hosting, carols playing, Mum pretending she made the Christmas pudding, and the next-door neighbours coming round for sherry in their terrible festive jumpers.

And now it’s even easier with online bargain-shopping sites – if you spend enough you even get free delivery. Sorted!

But this year looks set to be different. Unable to resist the draw of craft beer and smashed avocado, Becky’s parents are moving to ultra-trendy Shoreditch and have asked Becky if she’ll host Christmas this year. What could possibly go wrong?

With sister Jess demanding a vegan turkey, husband Luke determined that he just wants aftershave again, and little Minnie insisting on a very specific picnic hamper – surely Becky can manage all this, as well as the surprise appearance of an old boyfriend and his pushy new girlfriend, whose motives are far from clear . . .

Will chaos ensue, or will Becky manage to bring comfort and joy to Christmas?

Review: I usually have a good time with Sophie Kinsella’s novels, so I was quite curious to discover this new story. I haven’t read all the novels in the Shopaholic series, but that’s no problem, so don’t hesitate to go for it if you’re tempted.

Becky has a big change to deal with this year: she has to organize Christmas for her whole family, and everyone has their own idea of what the day should be like. It’s a lot of work, especially since nothing goes according to the plan. It’s also complicated when she has to add to this the Christmas presents that will be really far from easy to find and that will take her into some completely crazy stories. But on top of that, our heroine is going to run into an old boyfriend, who has become a famous rocker, and things will get a bit strange.

It was a very nice novel that allows us to have a very good time. Becky takes us on a new adventure full of humor and of course, shopping! It was a good surprise and I’m curious to see what the author will offer us next! It must be said that there are plenty of colorful characters that I will enjoy finding again.

  1. Well, the cover certainly shouts Christmas. I’m thinking the book might be aimed at younger readers than me though … not that I have ever let that stop me but I’m not sure that with all the ‘Christmas’ books out there this one is one for me.
