Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy

One Week Girlfriend, Book 2

Synopsis: Lost. That one single word best describes my life at this very moment. I lost the last games of the season and both my team and my coach blame me. I lost the last two months because I drowned in my own despair like a complete loser. And I lost the only girl who ever mattered because I was afraid being with me would destroy her.

But now I realize how truly lost I am without her. She has become my story…and even though she acts like she’s moved on, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. She’s beautiful, sweet—and so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is help her. Be there for her.

Love her…

If only I could convince Fable to give me a second chance. Then I wouldn’t feel so lost anymore, and neither would she. We could be found together.

Forever.

Review: I was very curious to read the second volume after a pretty terrible end in the previous one. It must be said that the story did not end necessarily well and it was nice to see our two heroes again there. Of course we know how it all will end, we expect it without too many surprises, but many other events are some real revelations.

As I said, and as it is explained in the summary, our couple is separated and of course both are miserable in their separate ways. Yet fate brings them together, allowing them to start something new and to heal their wounds. But their problems are far from resolved and each have to carry a terrible burden. It starts with Fable who must assume the mother’s job for Owen, as hers seems to increasingly forget them and therefore treats them as less than nothing. But in addition, the young woman has just found a job in a luxury restaurant but the boss has a strange behavior. Even late in the story I still can not really statute on that a little unhealthy and weird character. Secondly, we also follow Drew who is facing his past and his own demons. Unfortunately to get out and to live the life he wants to, he needs the one he loves.

I was quite surprised by the way of how Drew’s life catches him up, as well as his family stories. I confess that I did not expect such a turnaround as fast but it was interesting to see how the characters would react to all this. It’s very touching to see what our two heroes must cross to get to be a possibility of a happy life, but also to see that they are trying to do everything together to support one and the other.

It was a good second novel, perfectly complementing the first one and I confess that I am very curious now to read more and discover for example the Owen’s story as he is a very interesting guy and I’m curious by the POV of his life and of course to see the way the other characters evolve.

Deux Mois Sans Elle de Monica Murphy

One Week Girlfriend, Tome 2

One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy

One Week Girlfriend, Book 1

Synopsis: Temporary. That one single word best describes my life these last few years. I’m working at a temporary job until I can finally break free. I’m my little brother’s temporary mother since our mom doesn’t give a crap about either of us. And I’m that temporary girl all the guys want to get with because I give it up so easily. According to the rumors, at least.

But now I’m the temporary girlfriend of Drew Callahan, college football legend and all around golden guy. He’s beautiful, sweet—and he’s hiding way more secrets than I am. He’s brought me into this fake life where everyone seems to hate me. And everyone seems to want something from him. The only thing he seems to want though is…

Me.

I don’t know what to believe anymore. All I know is, I think Drew needs me. And I want to be there for him.

Forever.

Review: I heard nice things about Monica Murphy but I hadn’t read her work yet. So it’s true that this first volume intrigued me. New adult is not necessarily my favorite genre, but I love to read one from time to time. In the end it is true that I had a great time with the book and I was quite surprised to see that there is a second volume featuring our two protagonists before switching to another character and to finally finishing a fourth volume on the brother of our heroine, Fable.

Fable is known to be an easy girl and this does not give her a lot of good feedback. But one day, Drew, a popular boy she does not really know, shows up at the door of the bar to engage her for a large sum of money. Resistant at first, Fable surrenders rather quickly as she needs all the money possible to run her family and even if the request is strange, she accepts it. Oh yes, because he wants her to become his girlfriend for a week to help him go through the ordeal that awaits him when he returns to his family. Yet while both tries to resist their attraction, something between them might appear, linking them and evolving through the chapters. But will Drew ignore the trauma of his childhood to have a relationship with a young woman?

We understand very quickly that the Drew’s family has something unhealthy. Yes because her stepmother and father both act very strangely. I knew personally rather quickly what was happening, and I think it is the same for Fable, though she expects Drew to confide in her. Yet it is not for lack of trying to make him talk. But the young man is stuck in a painful past and memories that constantly haunt him. He tries to reject Fable, and yet he needs her as nobody before. Yet even if Fable tries to hang on him, to understand, help him, rejection is a very difficult thing. She also tries to stay away from time to time, knowing that she is not a girl for him and that all this is a farce, but it is always more difficult than expected.

As I said I understood very quickly what was happening, even the last revelation was not a surprise but it is not a problem as we have a good time while we follow our characters and understand their complexity. Our heart breaks with them, we want them to find a normal relationship, to live happy and yet nothing is certain. You’ll understand that with the end of the story!

In any case I am very curious to discover the rest of the story of Drew and Fable. To see how they manage to solve their problems and to evolve and create something tangible by making them forget about their past.

Une semaine avec lui de Monica Murphy

One Week Girlfriend, Tome 1
