Synopsis: The first Jane Austen sequel ever written!

Review: When I saw the release of this book, I admit that I was very curious. I’m a fan of everything related to Pride and Prejudice and now that I’ve read Emma, ​​I was intrigued by the fact that we find some of the characters from this story as well as others. However, I think that the fact of not having read more novels by Jane Austen removed a little appeal to the history as I could not really locate anyone in the story.

Even if we meet many people, it is true that in the end we mainly follow the heroes of Pride and Prejudice. So we meet Elizabeth at the beginning of the story who is trying to manage the future marriage of Georgiana who does not seem very happy about it in fact. All this happens several years after the end of the book, where our heroes already have children and are happy in marriage. Thus we follow the trials and tribulations of each, their meetings and their love. It’s pretty funny because the characters really keep the same spirit as those we know about, especially Emma who is always trying to assemble couples and is always mistaking about that.

As I said I had a good time with the story and it was interesting to find all these characters but it’s true that some passages may be a bit long for me. I think I would have had more fun if I had a little more understood who all the characters were exactly too. In any case it was nice to be immersed in the world and to find the first sequel of the famous novel.

Résumé : Fiancée au colonel Fitzwilliam, Georgiana Darcy n’est pas heureuse. Elle révèle son désarroi à sa belle-sœur, Elizabeth, et cette dernière s’empresse d’intervenir afn d’annuler les fançailles. Soulagé, le colonel Fitzwilliam accompagne le couple Darcy à Bath tandis que Georgiana rend visite à la sœur d’Elizabeth, Jane Bingley. Ils vont alors, chacun à leur tour, croiser et rencontrer les héros des autres romans de Jane Austen, d’Emma au capitaine Wentworth. Mais au fil des intrigues, ces personnages hauts en couleur devront afronter maintes épreuves avant de connaître le parfait amour.

Avis : Quand j’ai vu la sortie de ce livre, j’avoue que j’ai été très curieuse. Je suis fan des dérivés de tout ce qui touche à Orgueil et Préjugés et maintenant que j’ai lu Emma, j’étais intriguée par le fait que nous retrouvions certains des personnages connus des histoires. Mais ce n’est pas tout, car nous avons aussi la chance de retrouver d’autres protagonistes provenant des autres écrits de l’auteur. Cependant, je pense que le fait de ne pas avoir lu plus de romans de Jane Austen a enlevé un peu d’attrait à l’histoire comme je ne pouvais pas vraiment situer tout le monde dans l’histoire.

Même si nous côtoyons de nombreuses personnes, c’est vrai qu’au final nous suivons principalement les héros d’Orgueil et Préjugés. Nous retrouvons donc Elizabeth au début de l’histoire à essayer de gérer le futur mariage de Georgiana qui n’en semble pas très heureuse. Tout cela se passe plusieurs années après la fin du livre, là où nos héros ont déjà des enfants et sont heureux bien sûr en mariage. Ainsi nous suivons les déboires de chacun, leurs rencontres et leurs amours. C’est assez drôle parce que les personnages gardent vraiment le même esprit que ceux que nous connaissons, notamment Emma qui essaie toujours d’assembler des couples et qui comme toujours se trompe sur toute la ligne.

Comme je le disais j’ai passé un bon moment avec l’histoire et c’était intéressant de retrouver tous ces personnages mais c’est vrai que certains passages sont peut-être un peu longs pour moi. Je pense que j’aurais pris plus de plaisir si j’avais un peu plus compris qui étaient tous les personnages exactement aussi. Dans tous les cas c’était sympa de se retrouver dans le monde et de découvrir la première suite du célèbre roman.
