Synopsis: In the French Pyrenees, a young married couple is buried under a flash avalanche while skiing. Miraculously, Jake and Zoe dig their way out from under the snow—only to discover the world they knew has been overtaken by an eerie and absolute silence. Their hotel is devoid of another living soul. Cell phones and land lines are cut off. An evacuation as sudden and thorough as this leaves Jake and Zoe to face a terrifying situation alone. They are trapped by the storm, completely isolated, with another catastrophic avalanche threatening to bury them alive . . . again. And as the couple begin to witness unset­tling events neither one can ignore, they are forced to con­front a frightening truth about the silent land they now inhabit.

Review: I admit that the synopsis immediately gave me the impression of a ” Thriller / Horror ” novel, so I was curious to see how the story would be. It’s finally a bit different from what I’d originally thought, even if the atmosphere is scary throughout the novel, the love story between the two characters is present and leads the book.

Jake and Zoe are two persons on vacation in the mountains. But on a trip, while they are skiing, an avalanche is triggered and both are buried. It’s a rather difficult situation for Zoe who finds herself completely blocked in the snow without being able to escape. But fortunately, Jake is able to save her, to help her release. And when they return to their hostel, they realize that it was deserted, as well as the village not far away. Is it because of the avalanche? But soon they will understand that there is more and that their lives will be changed forever.

I enjoyed all the mysterious and frightening atmosphere of the book. I also tried to understand the difference between Jake and Zoe. Of course, we soon figure out what happened to them even if they need a little more time to know it. By cons I was curious to understand why Zoe had all these visions, but then again the same, we finally also understand after a few chapters the reason. The story is interesting and I liked to follow our little couple, but at the same time I found that it did not happen much and it was unfortunate… I expected maybe a little more. I had a little feeling of emptiness in the end and I confess that sometimes I was a little bored but I was happy to discover the truth about what happened and the end is really well written. After that, I wish I had more answers on certain points, but I think it will be interesting to read more novels by this author.

Mais il en faudrait davantage pour briser le lien qui les unit. jake parvient à s’extraire de sa tombe de neige et à sauver sa compagne. De retour à la station, les miraculés constatent qu’ils sont désespérément seuls. prisonniers de ce lieu soudain hostile, ils observent d’étranges phénomènes : les bougies ne se consument pas et Zoé croit discerner des ombres aux abords de l’hôtel…

Avis : J’avoue que le résumé m’a tout de suite donné l’impression d’un roman plutôt « thriller/Horreur », aussi j’étais curieuse de voir ce que l’histoire donnerait. C’est un peu différent de ce que j’aurais pensé au départ par contre, et même si l’atmosphère est angoissante tout au long du roman, l’histoire d’amour entre les deux personnages est bien présente et mène l’histoire.

Jake et Zoe sont deux personnes en vacances dans la montagne. Et alors qu’ils font du ski, une avalanche se déclenche et les ensevelit tous les deux. Une situation des plus atroces pour Zoe qui se retrouve complètement bloquée sous la neige sans arriver à s’en sortir. Pourtant Jake va la sauver, l’aider à se libérer. Et alors qu’ils rentrent à l’hôtel, ils se rendent compte que celui-ci a déserté, tout comme le village non loin de là. Est-ce à cause de l’avalanche ? Mais très vite ils vont comprendre qu’il y a plus et que leur vie va être changée à tout jamais.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié toute l’atmosphère mystérieuse et angoissante du livre. Essayant de comprendre la différence entre Jake et Zoe. Bien sûr, on comprend assez vite ce qu’il s’est passé pour eux même s’il leur faut un peu plus de temps. Par contre j’étais curieuse de comprendre pourquoi Zoe avait toutes ses visions, mais là encore pareil, on comprend finalement aussi au bout de quelques chapitres la raison. L’histoire est intéressante et j’ai bien aimé suivre notre petit couple mais en même temps j’ai trouvé qu’il ne se passait pas grand-chose et c’est vrai que j’ai trouvé ça un peu dommage. J’en attendais peut-être un peu plus. J’ai eu un petit sentiment de vide au final et j’avoue que je me suis un peu ennuyée à certains moments mais j’étais contente de découvrir toute la vérité sur ce qu’il s’était passé et la fin est vraiment bien écrite. Après j’aurais bien aimé avoir plus de réponses sur certains points, mais je pense qu’il sera intéressant de lire plus de romans de cet auteur.
