Résumé : Membre d’un repaire de démons mineur, Harper Wallis mène une vie plutôt simple – si l’on ne tient pas compte de sa famille haute en couleur. Tout bascule lorsqu’elle découvre que son ancre, le seul démon capable de l’arrêter lorsqu’elle laisse libre cours à sa rage, est Knox, l’un des démons les plus puissants au monde.

Knox est bien décidé à l’obliger à admettre qu’ils sont liés – et à l’entraîner dans son lit. Il est prêt à tout pour la garder auprès de lui et la protéger contre ceux qui voudraient l’utiliser contre lui. Harper n’est pas sûre de vouloir l’un ou l’autre, mais elle n’est pas pour autant du genre à battre en retraite lorsque le danger rôde, que la menace pèse sur elle… ou sur lui.

Avis : J’ai beaucoup aimé la première série de Suzanne Wright (même si je n’ai lu que les trois premiers livres) et j’étais curieuse de découvrir ce nouveau premier tome. J’ai eu un peu peur avant de commencer ma lecture je dois bien l’avouer. En effet, les avis ont commencé à être mitigés et certaines personnes n’ont pas du tout apprécié la relation étrange entre les deux personnages mais peut-être parce que je le savais ou peut-être que c’est personnel mais je n’ai pas eu de sentiments difficiles à ce sujet et j’ai plutôt passé un bon moment avec la lecture.

Nous nous lançons dans une histoire de démons avec un univers tout à fait différent de ce qu’on trouve habituellement. J’apprécie beaucoup de voir que les auteurs sont parvenus à créer un monde à part avec leurs idées pour en comprendre les détails. Nous découvrons ainsi Harper Wallis, une jeune démone qui évolue de façon assez effacée en société jusqu’à ce qu’elle croise la route de Knox. Il est tout ce qu’elle n’est pas : puissant, arrogant, dominateur, rusé… mais voilà il semblerait aussi qu’il soit son alter ego. Déterminé à la faire sienne malgré la méfiance de la jeune femme, Knox est prêt à tout pour la faire succomber et non n’est pas une réponse pour lui. Pourtant, cette relation va aussi apporter son lot d’ennuis car la position d’alter ego par rapport à cet homme soulève bien des dangers. Entre les femmes qui pensent qu’elle ne le mérite pas, d’autres qui la prennent pour cible pour le l’atteindre ou encore ceux qui veulent découvrir à quel catégorie de démons Knox appartient, Harper aura beaucoup de choses à gérer.

Je suis d’accord que la relation entre Harper et Knox est assez différente et que d’un certain côté c’est vrai que la domination va assez loin. Mais Harper est tout à fait consentante et comme elle le dit elle-même, elle peut très bien se défendre si elle le désire. J’ai apprécié voir évoluer notre héroïne de cette jeune femme plutôt renfermée à cette personne qui espère finalement avoir trouvé celui qui sera là pour elle. Il en est de même pour Knox qui s’ouvre lui aussi à elle en lui dévoilant ses secrets petit à petit. J’avoue que j’ai tout de suite connecté avec Harper et j’ai trouvé l’histoire assez prenante. J’étais curieuse de savoir ce que les élections d’un monarque allait donner et si quelqu’un allait gagner. Vous ai-je mentionné Lucifer en tant que personnage secondaire. On ne le voit pas beaucoup mais j’ai trouvé l’idée très originale et j’espère que nous le retrouverons par la suite !

J’ai trouvé que c’était un bon premier tome qui nous fait découvrir un univers tout à fait différent et je suis curieuse d’en lire plus.

Review: This series seemed to offer everything I can appreciate: Bayou, Louisiana, voodoo and murder investigation. Yes a lot of things that make you want to discover more and while the author is none other than Susannah Sandlin here clears all other doubts that we might have. Indeed, I always have a great time with her stories and this is still the case this time and I’m curious to see how far this new series will make us go.

Eva Savoie is known by all to be a Voodoo Queen, although she does not really considers herself as such. But when the bones teach her that death is coming, she hopes that the curse that followed her family until then will disappear with her. Murdered, her niece Ceelie, inherits the small cabin she called home but upon arriving, she found herself at the heart of a story completely beyond her. It appears that the murderer wants something he did not get by Eva and he is determined that the young woman provides him what he wants. Launched in a hunt, all will try to understand who the culprit is. And if he was the dead brother of the charming agent who remains present for her?

I really had a good time with this story. I was curious to see how the investigation was going to be solved, who would be eventually convicted and especially his motives as we do not really understand them. Ceelie is a strong young woman and yet she will have to pass through many trials here and finally also to learn a bit more regarding her family. I loved to see her trying to find her “home” and see if it could finally be here. Her romance with Gentry was pretty cute and it was nice to see the man opening to her, despite his early preconceptions. It was also touching to see the man understanding that the person he thought he had killed, was possibly alive and could be capable of such actions… a rather difficult time. It was a truly fascinating history with this kind of background, with this place and all these references. And how not to be overwhelmed to see a bit of French in the text! It’s still very funny even if we see some differences with ours.

In any case you will understand that I had a great time with this first volume and I’m really curious to see what Susannah will present to the rest of the series!

Avis : Cette série semblait offrir tout ce dont je peux apprécier : le bayou, la Louisiane, du vaudou et une enquête de meurtre. Oui beaucoup de choses qui donnent envie et le fait que Susannah Sandlin est l’auteure ici efface tous autres doutes que l’on pourrait avoir. En effet, j’ai toujours passé de très bons moments avec ses histoires et c’est encore le cas cette fois-ci et je suis curieuse de voir jusqu’où cette nouvelle série nous emportera.

Eva Savoie est connue par tous pour être la reine du Vaudou, bien qu’elle ne se considère pas vraiment comme telle. Mais quand les os lui apprennent que la mort arrive, elle espère que la malédiction qui a suivi sa famille jusque-là s’éteindra avec elle. Assassinée, sa nièce Ceelie, hérite de la petite cabine qu’elle appelait maison, mais arrivant, elle se retrouve elle-même au cœur d’une histoire qui la dépasse complètement. Il semblerait que le meurtrier désire quelque chose qu’il n’a pas obtenu par Eva et il est déterminé à ce que la jeune femme lui fournisse ce qu’il veut. Lancée dans une traque, tous essaieront de comprendre qui est ce coupable. Et s’il était le frère prétendu mort du charmant agent qui reste présent pour elle ?

J’ai vraiment passé un bon moment avec cette histoire. J’étais curieuse de voir comment l’enquête allait se résoudre, qui était le coupable finalement et surtout ses motivations que nous ne comprenons pas vraiment. Ceelie est une jeune femme forte et pourtant elle va devoir traverser ici de nombreuses épreuves et finalement en apprendre aussi un peu plus par rapport à sa famille. J’ai beaucoup aimé la voir essayer de prendre ses marques et voir si cet endroit pouvait finalement être sa maison. Sa romance avec Gentry est assez mignonne et c’était agréable de voir l’homme s’ouvrir à elle malgré ses premiers aprioris. C’était aussi touchant de voir l’homme comprendre que l’homme qu’il pensait avoir tué, était possiblement vivant et qu’il pourrait être capable de telles actions, un moment assez difficile. C’était une histoire vraiment fascinante avec ce contexte, ce lieu et toutes ces références. Et puis comment ne pas être comblée de voir un peu de Français dans le texte ! C’est toujours aussi très drôle même si on voit quelques différences avec le nôtre.

Dans tous les cas vous aurez compris que j’ai passé un très bon moment avec ce premier volume et je suis vraiment curieuse de voir ce que Susannah nous présentera pour la suite de la série !

« Marion, Missing » – Rachel Caine

I’ve read some books by Rachel Caine I really enjoyed but it is true that it was interesting to find her with something a bit different. Here, we find Valentine, a detective wearied of his work after the death of his assistant. And even if the latter is always present in her spectral form to help him, that does not change his guilt. However he will be obliged to accept a case when the niece of the young woman disappears and that the family comes to see him to have his assistance. It was a rather interesting story and I always appreciate the presence of ghosts. However, I found that it drew a little bit in length towards the end.

Femme Fatale – Cynthia Eden

I heard a lot about the writer without reading one of her books but this novella was a good occasion to get into in her universe. Once more, we find ourselves with private detectives whereas it enters in collision with the supernatural world. Indeed, a vampire comes to our dear detective to require his assistance in order to find the person in charge of two murders downtown by another vampire which she hopes to catch. However, Savannah also wishes other things, a companion and it is true that the two stories mix perfectly. I did not expect either to doubt about the culprit, but Cynthia Eden manages nevertheless to make us balance between the two characters and it is true that I found that it was very well done. A story making us want to discover more from the writer!

Dance with the Devil – Megan Hart

I do not remember if I have read a book by Megan Hart and yet her name rings in my head, perhaps another novella? In all the cases we find a very good little story here and I confess that I spent an excellent moment. No private detectives this time but rather a young woman who signs an agreement with the devil and who must accept all that he asks her for fear of lose her soul or to die. It is a difficult task with always many consequences. However it is rather complicated to understand Satan, to see how he plays with our heroine for finally giving her an end which we would not expect. Yes, I still have many questions but it was a very good novel and I would love to learn more! I also appreciated at the end, the small part which introduces Jake in another story

The Consort – Suzanne Johnson

I think that everyone knows that I really appreciate the books by Suzanne Johnson, thus it was a pleasure to find a story in her universe, even more when the faes have the place of honor. Yes, because besides that, I have a big weakness for all that has connection with these creatures. We find a young girl finds become the consort against her will of a fae prince. To avoid that, she will try to flee but will be quickly caught by those who search for her and yet there could be a loop-hole. It was a very good story once more and it is a pleasure to return to the universe of the writer.

Heat’s Blood – Jeffe Kennedy

I had never read a book by Jeffe Kennedy but it is true that I always heard a lot of good things about her and my friend Carien always does many praises. I was therferefore impatient to start my reading! We find ourselves launched in a tale, a story which is not easy and I was very sad for the young Nix and all that she must go through whereas she really does not deserve it. It was a good story, a nice discovery and it is true that now, after a small outline, I am very curious to try something of more complete from the writer!

The Djinn in the Mirror – Mina Khan

Here is another writer that I do not think of having tried before but I acknowledge that her story really gave me desire to learn more! It should be said that, like the faes, the Djinn always really intrigue me and it was a pleasure to learn a little more about them and about their world. For that, we follow the story of a young girl who tries to release herself from the influence of her stepfather although that is really very difficult. However, she will be helped by her very particular cat and perhaps this new djinn if she is able to get him to understand that she is not her mistress but rather her equal. A pretty small discovery and I am curious again to read more!

J’ai lu quelques livres de Rachel Caine que j’avais beaucoup appréciés mais c’est vrai que c’était intéressant de la retrouver avec quelque chose de différent. Ici, nous retrouvons Valentine, un détective lassé de son travail après la mort de son acolyte. Et même si cette dernière est toujours présente dans sa forme spectrale pour l’aider, cela ne change pas son sentiment de culpabilité. Pourtant il va être obligé d’accepter une affaire quand la nièce de la jeune femme disparait et que la famille vient vers lui pour avoir de l’aide. C’était une histoire assez intéressante et j’apprécie toujours la présence de fantômes. Cependant, j’ai trouvé qu’elle tirait un petit peu en longueur vers la fin. 3.5/5

Femme Fatale – Cynthia Eden
J’avais beaucoup entendu parler de l’auteure sans jamais lire un seul de ses livres, alors cette nouvelle était une bonne occasion pour me plonger dans son univers. Une fois de plus, nous nous retrouvons dans le monde des détectives privés alors qu’il entre en collision avec le monde surnaturel. En effet, une vampire se présente chez notre chère détective pour lui demander de l’aide afin de retrouver le responsable de deux meurtres en ville, un autre vampire qu’elle espère bien attraper. Pourtant, Savannah désire aussi d’autres choses, un compagnon et c’est vrai que les deux histoires se mêlent parfaitement. Je ne m’attendais pas non plus à douter du coupable, mais Cynthia Eden parvient tout de même à nous faire balancer entre les deux personnages et c’est vrai que j’ai trouvé ça très bien fait. Une histoire qui nous donne envie d’en découvrir plus de l’auteure ! 4/5

Dance with the Devil – Megan Hart
Je ne me rappelle pas avoir lu un livre de Megan Hart et pourtant son nom résonne dans ma tête, peut-être une autre nouvelle quelque part ? Dans tous les cas on retrouve une très bonne petite histoire ici et j’avoue que j’ai passé un excellent moment. Pas de détectives privés cette fois ci mais plutôt une jeune femme qui a passé un accord avec le diable et qui doit accepter tout ce qu’il lui demande de faire de peur de perdre son âme ou de mourir. C’est une tâche bien difficile qui a toujours de nombreuses conséquences. Pourtant c’est assez compliqué de comprendre Satan, de voir comment il joue avec notre héroïne pour finalement lui donner une fin à laquelle on ne s’attendrait pas. Oui, je me pose encore beaucoup de questions mais c’était une très bonne novella qui donne envie d’en apprendre plus ! J’ai aussi apprécié à la fin, la petite partie qui nous présente finalement Jake dans une autre histoire. 4.5/5

The Consort – Suzanne Johnson
Je pense que tout le monde sait que j’apprécie énormément les livres de Suzanne Johnson donc c’était un plaisir de retrouver une histoire dans son univers, encore plus quand les faes y sont à l’honneur. Oui, parce qu’en plus de cela, j’ai une grosse faiblesse pour tout ce qui est en rapport avec ces créatures. On se retrouve donc dans une nouvelle où une jeune fille se retrouve contre son gré, le consort d’un prince fae. Pour éviter cela, elle va essayer de fuir mais va vite être rattrapée par ceux qui la recherchent et pourtant il pourrait bien y avoir une échappatoire. C’était très bonne histoire une fois de plus et c’est un plaisir de se replonger dans l’univers de l’auteure ! 4/5

Heat’s Blood – Jeffe Kennedy
Je n’avais jamais lu de livres de Jeffe Kennedy mais c’est vrai que j’en ai toujours entendu beaucoup de bien et mon amie Carien m’en fait toujours beaucoup d’éloges, aussi, j’étais impatiente de me lancer dans ma lecture ! On se retrouve lancé dans un conte, une histoire qui n’est pas forcément facile et j’ai été très triste pour la jeune Nix et tout ce qu’elle doit traverser alors qu’elle ne le méritait vraiment pas. C’était une bonne histoire, une jolie découverte et c’est vrai que maintenant, après un petit aperçu, je suis très curieuse de tenter quelque chose de plus complet de l’auteure ! 4/5

The Djinn in the Mirror – Mina Khan
Voilà une autre auteure que je ne pense pas avoir tentée auparavant mais j’avoue que son histoire m’a vraiment donné envie d’en savoir plus ! Il faut dire que tout comme les faes, les Djinn m’ont toujours vraiment intriguée et c’était un plaisir d’en apprendre un peu plus sur eux et sur leur monde. Pour cela, on suit l’histoire d’une jeune fille qui essaie de se libérer de l’emprise de son beau-père bien que cela soit vraiment très difficile, pourtant elle sera aidée par son chat très particulier et peut-être ce nouveau djinn si elle arrive à lui faire comprendre qu’elle n’est pas sa maitresse mais plutôt son égale. Une jolie petite découverte et je suis là aussi curieuse d’en lire plus ! 4/5

Review: After a good time with a novel by the author, I was curious to see how her other books were. I’ve always had a weakness for Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and it is true that I was curious to see how the author had staged them here.

We follow here War, a man who is destined like his brothers and her sister to bring the Apocalypse on earth. Each needs to protect or to avoid a certain act in order to stay as they are and not to turn into a kind of demon who wants to dive the land into chaos. This future hangs over their heads constantly, placing them in difficult situations. It must be said that since their brother Pestilence went on the wrong side of the force, and remains determined to make them all fall down with him. They therefore remain on the alert at all time. To continue to live his life, War must protect the person wearing the aegis, but this thing is now found in a young woman Cara, human, unlike the previous ones. The problem is that in a human, the gift accelerates the death of the host. And when the two begin to succumb to their attraction, many problems will arise. But in addition to this, the young woman is tied to a dog of hell, a dog whose family killed War’s relatives… something that our hero is not going to really enjoy. Something else? Pestilence will never cease to try to kill the woman whatever may happen … But Cara is not an ordinary person, oh no, because she has exceptional faculties we discover throughout the history.

I enjoyed this story. Larissa Ione inserted in this novel many ideas. Oh yes, because she has created a mythology for these horsemen and I found it all very intriguing. It’s always fascinating to see how the authors shape the stories we know and I found this one very successful. We learn to discover with pleasure Cara and War, two different people and yet perfect together. It was interesting to see them grow together, getting to know each other and to become attached to them gradually. We can only melt for the puppy of hell and I’m curious to see what will happen for him now. So yes a lot here and everything was very catchy.

It was a very good novel, a battle between good and evil that is far from over and I’m curious to read the other volumes featuring the characters.

Les Cavaliers de l’Apocalypse, Tome 1

Résumé : La fin des temps approche. Les cavaliers de l’Apocalypse devront choisir de préserver leur humanité et combattre aux côtés du bien ou, au contraire, embrasser leur destinée et déchaîner l’Enfer sur Terre.

Ares, destiné à devenir Guerre, craint peu de choses. Fin stratège et redoutable avec une lame, il a participé à toutes les grandes batailles de l’histoire. Alors que les émotions n’ont aucune prise sur lui depuis bien longtemps, il va s’avérer que sa seule faiblesse est une femme. Cara Thornhart, humaine, entraînée dans un monde qu’elle ne comprend pas et auquel elle ne peut survivre, s’est retrouvée porteuse de la marque qui fera d’Ares un démon à part entière. Consumé par le désir et privé de tous ses pouvoirs lorsqu’il est près d’elle, Ares devra pourtant trouver le moyen de sauver la jeune femme d’une mort certaine, ou accepter d’être le héraut d’Armageddon.

Avis : Après avoir passé un bon moment avec un roman de l’auteure, j’étais curieuse de voir ce que donnait un autre de ses livres. J’ai toujours eu un faible pour les cavaliers de l’apocalypse et c’est vrai que j’étais curieuse de voir comment l’auteure les avait mis en scène ici.

Nous suivons donc ici Guerre, un homme qui est destiné à amener comme ses frères et sa sœur l’apocalypse sur terre. Chacun doit protéger ou éviter d’agir pour pouvoir rester comme ils sont et non se transformer en une sorte de démon qui désire plonger la terre dans le chaos. Ce futur plane au dessus de leur tête constamment, les plaçant dans des situations délicates. Il faut dire que depuis que leur frère Pestilence est passé du mauvais côté de la force, et reste déterminé à les faire tous tomber avec lui, chacun reste sur le qui-vive. Pour continuer à vivre sa vie, Guerre doit protéger la personne qui porte son aegis, mais voilà que celui-ci se retrouve en une jeune femme Cara, humaine, à l’inverse des précédents. Le problème reste que chez une humaine, ce présent accélère la mort de l’hôte. Et quand les deux commencent à succomber à leur attraction, de nombreux problèmes vont survenir. Mais en plus de cela, la jeune femme est liée à un chien de l’enfer, un chien dont la famille a tué les proches de Guerre… chose que notre héros ne va pas vraiment apprécier. Encore autre chose ? Pestilence n’a de cesse que de tuer la jeune femme quoi qu’il puisse se passer … Cependant, Cara n’est pas une personne banale, oh non, car elle possède certaines facultés exceptionnelles que nous apprendrons à découvrir tout au long de l’histoire.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié cette histoire. Larissa Ione a inséré dans ce roman un grand nombre d’idées. Oh oui, parce que nous avons une mythologie créée pour ces cavaliers et j’ai trouvé le tout vraiment très intrigant. C’est toujours fascinant de voir comment les auteurs modèlent eux même des histoires que nous connaissons et j’ai trouvé que c’était très bien réussi ici. On apprend à découvrir avec plaisir Cara et Guerre, deux personnes différentes et qui pourtant vont bien se retrouver ensemble. C’était intéressant de les voir évoluer ensemble, d’apprendre à les connaitre et de s’attacher à eux petit à petit. On ne peut que fondre pour le chiot des enfers et je suis curieuse de voir ce qu’il adviendra à ce sujet. Donc oui beaucoup de choses ici et le tout était très accrocheur.

C’était un très bon roman, une bataille entre le bien et le mal qui est loin d’être finie et je suis curieuse de pouvoir lire les tomes mettant en scène les autres personnages.
