Heart of Stone by Debra Mullins

Thruth Seers, Book 2

Synopsis: Darius Montana is a Seer. With his gift of empathy, he can see into the hearts of others, both human and Atlantean. When his family comes into possession of one of the legendary power stones of Atlantis, Darius is sent to find the Stone Singer.

Faith Karaluros is the last Stone Singer. Manipulated all her life for her rare ability, she is widowed after her husband tried to steal her power for the Mendukati, an extremist group that hunts Seers. Faith wants nothing more than to stay out of this war when Darius comes to find her—just in time to rescue her from being kidnapped.

Faith goes with Darius, determined to do the job and be on her way with the money that can set her up where no one can find her again. She didn’t count on the Mendukati sending a hit man after her. Darius swears he can protect her, but when she discovers he is one of the rare Atlanteans whose powers work on their own kind, can she trust him to keep his word, or is she being used again?

Review: After a first volume making us discover more about Rafe and Cara, we now follow the Atlantes brother: Darius. I admit that I was curious to discover his history, as well as learn more information about this different kind of people.

I enjoyed learning more about Darius and Faith. Both have not had much luck in life, and their pasts are haunting them in a very different way. Darius has to manage the consequences of his accident, his reduced mobility and a wheelchair he must use when he does too much. It is a weakness that he hates about and yet he remembers it continually. Regarding Faith, she has her own demons, but not the least. She only trusts her stepfather who has always been there for her, but relationships with others are not her strong point. She is the last of her kind, a stone singer and it seems that everyone is trying to manipulate her to use her for their own purposes. Do you understand her problem of trust? I must say that her history with her ex-husband did not help either. But now Faith is at the center of a war, and every clan wants to defeat the other.

I had a lot of fun with this novel. Once again we learn more about the Atlanteans, their origins and even the destruction of Atlantis. I admit that I was quite surprised by the result but everything was well done. We also learn a little more about these two opposed peoples and about their abilities and beliefs. But of course, there is also the story between Darius and Faith. This is not a simple relationship, especially as Faith who is quite suspicious. We understand perfectly her feelings, and despite all the things she is doing for them, and although she is present to help, the Seers are not necessarily very nice to her except Darius and Cara. Yes you heard right, Cara is present once again for our pleasure, as Rafe and all the others to show us what they had become. Yet it is also true that we also learn more about Adrian! This is a very complex character who hides a lot of things and I was eager to know all his secrets. This is not yet the case, but the little bits we know makes us even more curious!

In conclusion, this novel was again a good discovery but it is just beginning between the two characters. The war is there and I hope be able to discover the history of Tessa, the last sister, and Adrian’s soon.

  1. The cover confused me for a minute. I thought it was a girl (thus the long hair) and then I looked closer and the person had muscles and then I thought to myself, “Man, she is butch! Oh…wait…I think it is a boy.” hahaha.

    Anyways…

I’ve heard such good things about this series. I’ll put this on my maybe list.
