Synopsis: WHO WILL BELIEVE YOUR STORY IF THE ONLY WITNESS IS DEAD?

Cleo knows she should be happy for her brother Mark. He’s managed to find someone new after the sudden death of his first wife – but something about Evie just doesn’t feel right…

When Evie starts having accidents at home, her friends grow concerned. Could Mark be causing her injuries? Called out to their cliff-top house one night, Sergeant Stephanie King finds two bodies entangled on blood-drenched sheets.

Where does murder begin? When the knife is raised to strike, or before, at the first thought of violence?

As the accused stands trial, the jury is forced to consider – is there ever a proper defence for murder?

Review: The synopsis of this novel was intriguing and I must admit that I was curious to discover the story in its entirety.

Stephanie King is called to a crime scene. A man is dead, and the woman with him doesn’t hide that she killed him. However, she may well have a good reason for doing so.

In this novel we follow various characters including Evie, Mark’s partner ; the deceased artist ; Cleo his sister ; or Aminah Cleo’s best friend. We find ourselves carried away by the novel that presents itself in such a way that we discover the events that are taking place in the present and those that took place some time before. We will discover Evie’s meeting with Mark, the strange relationship between him and his sister, but also more information about the person that Evie is. A liar? A victim?

It was a very intriguing novel and I was eager to understand exactly what it was all about. The characters have questions, so do we, but we know that Evie is hiding something, what? Why? We will gradually discover the truth and I must admit that I did not expect such reversals of situations. However, it is true that I found that at the trial there were things that did not make much sense and I did not necessarily understand what the few chapters on Stephanie’s relationship were for, unless they were characters who had to come back recurrently in a series.

Either way, it was an interesting novel.

Good set up, it seems, but bummer that it had times of not making sense.

Hopefully the things that didn’t make a lot of sense will make more sense in the next book.

I have trouble when things don’t make sense and it bothers me. I’m glad you were able to enjoy it anyway for the most part.

This sounds really interesting. Too bad the ending got a bit confusing though.
