The Trouble with Love by Claire Contreras

Synopsis: Things on my wishlist:

1. Start a new, awesome job
2. Create the perfect dating app
3. Stop dating douchebags

Things that actually happen:

1. Got a job in my dream tech company
2. Created a workplace dating app for said company
3. Was matched with Bennett, who happens to own the company and is also my brother’s best friend

They say when it rains, it pours, but this is some serious BS. It doesn’t help that Bennett was the man I had my last one night stand with. It definitely doesn’t help that he seems to want me just as much as I want him. The issue is, he won’t do anything about it, but then we’re forced to attend a tech conference in Vegas and I think it may just be what I need to turn this thing around.

New goal: get my brother’s best friend out of my system by all means necessary.

Review: I’ve only read one of the author’s novels so far, but I really loved it, so I was curious to get into another one of her stories. And then… how can you resist such a synopsis?

Morgan didn’t expect her one-night stand to be one of her bosses when she went to work at the agency of her dreams. Worse, he’s still as sexy as ever and he seems to want her as much as she wants him. Problem, it’s never good to mix pleasure with work. Even worse? He doesn’t believe in relationships. However, she can’t get him out of her head so when they go to a conference, she knows that it’s the only time she can make him bend.

I had a good time with this novel, although I must say I’m quite surprised that Morgan has never met her brother’s best friend before. Apart from that, I found the characters very touching and they both hide a difficult past that they are trying to overcome. A past that they will both have to accept, because it will catch up with them very quickly.

As I was saying, we find two characters we appreciate quite quickly, even though I found that Bennett may have changed his mind a little too easily about relationships. I was happy to discover their story and found the whole thing very nice and enjoyable to read.

  1. I love the brother’s best friend romance trope, and have been eyeing this story. I’m shocked Morgan had never met her brother’s best friend either. That’s an interesting switch-up of the trope. I’m glad you enjoyed this story, and have found a new author to enjoy!

  2. If she has a close relationship with her brother, it does seem odd that she’s never met his best friend, or heard his name. Similarly, you’d think the best friend would know who his best friend’s sister was. Small details like that would have bugged me as well, but I’m happy to see you enjoyed it overall!
