The Rules of Supervillainy by C.T. Phipps

The Supervillainy Saga, Book 1

Synopsis: Gary Karkofsky is an ordinary guy with an ordinary life living in an extraordinary world. Supervillains, heroes, and monsters are a common part of the world he inhabits. Yet, after the death of his hometown’s resident superhero, he gains the amazing gift of the late champion’s magical cloak. Deciding he prefers to be rich rather than good, Gary embarks on a career as Merciless: The Supervillain Without Mercy.

But is he evil enough to be a villain in America’s most crime-ridden city?

Gary soon finds himself surrounded by a host of the worst of Falconcrest City’s toughest criminals. Supported by his long-suffering wife, his ex-girlfriend turned professional henchwoman, and a has-been evil mastermind, Gary may end up being not the hero they want but the villain they need.

Review: I had heard a lot about this series and saw great reviews on different blogs. So I had to put the novel on my wish-list and I finally took the time to buy it. I didn’t wait long before diving into the story and I must say I had a great time!

Gary doesn’t have a very exciting life, so when he gets the costume of a former superhero, he finally sees his chance to become someone! However, no superhero life for him, no, no, he’s determined to become a super villain no matter what his cape tells him! Yes, because on top of that, it talks to him and often tries to thwart its plans.

If his wife is not happy with his career choice, it’s hard to argue with her. But this is also how Gary will discover that her past holds some secrets!

This was an enjoyable novel to read. I always find it fun to have stories in the superhero universe. Besides, all the protagonists are amazing and I’m curious to discover them in volume 2!
