The Farm by Emily McKay

The Farm, Book 1

Synopsis: Life was different in the Before: before vampires began devouring humans in a swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined. These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the undead monsters, known as Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other…

Review: I have had this novel for a while, since a friend sent it to me after reading it. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I have to say I had a great time.

Mel and Lily are surviving as best they can in the Farm, a quarantine center where the monsters that have taken over the cities are feeding on the residents. Our twins are doing everything they can to leave this place, but it’s almost impossible. But they have a plan! Unfortunately, that plan is thrown off course when Carter, an old classmate, shows up at the farm. He seems to want to help them, but why? What is he hiding?

This was a very cool dystopian novel. Mel, Lily and Carter are hiding a lot of secrets and we are going to discover some of them little by little. The relationship between all the characters is very touching and I found it interesting that the author addressed Mel’s autism. The ending surprised me and I’m curious to see what will happen next!
