Synopsis: Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there …

Review: Mythos Academy is a series that I love and I was eager to read this new volume. I must say that Gwen has always so much to do and I’m always curious to see her adventures.

At the end of the previous book and the novella, we know that Logan won’t be here and it’s always very difficult for Gwen to accept that. Also, we begin the story with this, Gwen is mulling over the departure of her companion, trying to understand why he had abandoned like that, since she is already struggling to cope with the recent events. But our young heroine will not have the time to recover, the reapers attack them already trying to poison her in vain. However, even she is not reached by this subterfuge, it is not the same for another character in the story. Also despite her feelings, our heroine is determined to find the cure and save him. But for this, they have to go to another part of the country where only the required plant grows. A trap would you say? Of course, but do they really have a choice? Also here is our little group, leaving for a very different adventure, with many extraordinary encounters.

I really enjoyed reading this novel and we learn a lot of things here compared to Gwen. Indeed, we have the opportunity to meet her cousin by her father, the person she didn’t even know the existence. Rory is not very friendly to us early in the book, but we begin to appreciate her when we understand what she really hides and all she has endured in her life. I was happy that Gwen could learn more about her family and I hope we’ll meet her cousin again. Of course, we also have the return of Logan and I admit that I expected to see forward what would happen between them, but it hurts my heart to see our young heroine like that. This however is not everything and we also meet a goddess who could change the balance in the history of the war, but also some new creatures that we had not seen before.

A great new volume and the fans of the series will not be disappointed. Gwen is equal to herelf and I always look forward to read more now!

Mauvaise nouvelle : le Reaper a empoisonné quelqu’un d’autre à la place.

En tant que championne de Nike, tout le monde attend de moi de mener la charge contre les Reapers, même si je suis toujours mal par rapport à ce qu’il s’est passé avec le guerrier spartiate Logan Quinn. Je dois mettre la main sur l’antidote rapidement – sinon, une personne innocente va mourir. Mais le seul remède connu est caché dans des ruines lugubres – et il est sûr que les Reapers m’attendent là-bas …

Avis : Mythos Academy est une série que j’affectionne particulièrement et j’étais impatiente de pouvoir lire ce nouveau tome. Il faut dire que Gwen a toujours tant à faire et on est toujours impatients de découvrir ses aventures.

A la fin du tome précédent et de la nouvelle, nous savons que Logan n’est pas là et c’est toujours très difficile pour Gwen de l’accepter. Aussi, on commence ainsi au début de l’histoire, Gwen ressassant le départ de son compagnon, essayant de comprendre pourquoi il l’a abandonné de la sorte, étant donné qu’elle a déjà du mal à faire face aux derniers événements. Mais notre jeune héroïne n’aura pas le temps de se reprendre, que les reapers attaquent déjà tentant de l’empoisonner en vain. Cependant, même si elle n’est pas atteinte par ce subterfuge, il n’en est pas de même pour un des autres personnages de l’histoire. Aussi malgré ses sentiments, notre héroïne est bien décidée à trouver le remède et le sauver. Cependant pour cela, ils doivent se rendre dans une autre partie du pays où seul là la plante nécessaire pousse. Un piège me direz-vous ? Bien-sûr, mais ont-ils vraiment le choix ? Aussi voici parti notre petit groupe pour une aventure bien différente que ce qu’ils pensaient, avec même de nombreuses rencontres extraordinaires.

J’ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à lire ce roman et nous apprenons énormément de choses ici par rapport à Gwen. En effet, nous aurons l’occasion de rencontrer sa cousine de par son père, personne qu’elle ne soupçonnait l’existence. Rory ne nous est pas très sympathique au tout début du livre mais on se prend à l’apprécier quand on comprend ce qu’elle cache vraiment et tout ce qu’elle a enduré au cours de sa vie. J’étais contente que Gwen puisse en apprendre plus sur sa famille de cette façon et j’espère que nous rencontrerons sa cousine encore une fois. Bien sûr, nous aurons aussi le retour de Logan et j’avoue que j’attendais de voir avec impatience ce qui allait se passer entre eux, mais ça fait mal au cœur de voir notre jeune héroïne de la sorte. Ce n’est cependant pas tout et nous rencontrerons aussi une déesse pouvant changer la balance dans cette histoire de guerre mais aussi de nouvelles créatures que nous n’avions pas vues jusqu’alors.

Un très bon nouveau tome et les fans de la série ne seront pas déçus. Gwen est égale à elle-même et j’ai toujours hâte d’en lire plus maintenant !

Synopsis: I’m Logan Quinn, the deadliest Spartan warrior at Mythos Academy. At least I was — until the day I almost killed Gwen Frost.

Professor Metis and Nickamedes say that I’m fine, that Loki and the Reapers don’t have a hold on me anymore, but I can’t risk it. I can’t risk hurting Gwen again. So I’m leaving Mythos and going somewhere far, far away.

I know Gwen wonders what’s happening to me, whether I’m safe. I can’t tell her, but this is my story…

Review: I was really happy to discover this novella. Indeed, it follows the events from the last volume and it allows us to discover the Logan’s point of view now that he has left school to try to collect his thoughts.

We never really had the opportunity to follow a story through his eyes and even though I love Gwen, it was very interesting to be able this time to learn more about someone else. The first chapter helps us to understand that Logan was well aware of all his actions during the last battle although he could not do anything or counter what he was doing. It broke my heart to see the person he became, guilty for everything that happened and unable to speak with Gwen now. He tries to escape his problems, but it seems really difficult for him and we hope he will be able one day to forgive himself for what he did.

It was really quite pleasant to read the story, as always with Jennifer Estep and I was glad to be able to read while waiting for the next volume. Of course, the novel only have a few pages and we can read quite fast. But I’m very curious now to learn more. Perfect for the fans of the series.

Résumé (traduction personnelle) : Je suis Logan Quinn, le plus meurtrier guerrier spartiate de Mythos Academy. Du moins je l’étais – jusqu’au jour où j’ai failli tuer Gwen Frost.

Professeur Métis et Nickamedes disent que je vais bien, que Loki et les Reapers n’ont pas d’emprise sur moi, mais je ne peux pas prendre ce risque. Je ne peux pas risquer de blesser Gwen à nouveau. Donc, je pars de Mythos et vais quelque part loin, très loin.

Je sais que Gwen se demande ce qu’il m’arrive, si je suis en sécurité. Je ne peux pas lui dire, mais c’est mon histoire …

Avis : J’étais vraiment contente de pouvoir découvrir cette novella. En effet, elle reprend directement après le dernier tome et nous permet de découvrir le point de vue de Logan maintenant qu’il a quitté l’école pour essayer de rassembler ses idées.

Nous n’avions jamais vraiment eu l’occasion de suivre une histoire par ses yeux et même si j’adore Gwen, c’était très intéressant de pouvoir cette fois ci mieux le cerner. Le premier chapitre nous permet de comprendre que Logan était tout à fait conscient de tous ses actes pendant la dernière bataille bien qu’il ne puisse rien faire ou contrer ses actions. Ça fait mal au cœur de voir la personne qu’il est devenu, se sentant coupable par tout ce qui s’est passé et incapable de faire face à Gwen à présent. Il essaie d’échapper à ses soucis, mais tout cela semble vraiment très difficile et on espère qu’il arrivera un jour à se pardonner pour tout ce qu’il a fait.

C’était vraiment une histoire assez agréable à lire, comme toujours avec Jennifer Estep et j’étais contente de pouvoir la lire en attendant le prochain tome. Bien sûr, le roman ne se déroule que sur quelques pages et c’était une lecture des plus rapides. Mais je suis très curieuse à présent d’en apprendre plus. Parfait pour les fans de la série.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming.

I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison—and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself…


Review: I was really curious to find out how the fourth book by Jennifer Estep would be. Indeed, each new volume takes us deeper into the Gwen’s problems and since the release of Loki, we knew that many things would happen this time. This novel confirms it perfectly.

Gwen finds herself accused from the outset, by a person whom she does not know the identity, of being part of the reapers and of having deliberately helped to liberate the God. But in addition to this she is suspected to be his champion and not the one of Nyx. Throughout the “trial”, she has the right to stay at the academy and to follow her course but she must be followed by a guard who monitors her. However, it is very hard for our heroine when she realizes that her friends aside, everybody thinks she is guilty and treats her as the ennemy. And what she does, doesn’t change anything, especially when she understands that those who are supposed to choose her sentence doesn’t like her at all.

I was really sorry for Gwen throughout the novel, mainly when we realize that she has to face this trial quite alone. Because yes, of course, her friends are there to support her, but it’s not possible for them to protect her continuously. We can realize here the wickedness of others against her, as they don’t even try to know if she is guilty or innocent. And our little Gwen remains stoic behind so much hatred, trying to stay upright and to face everyone the best she can. It breaks our heart however, to see her like that and to assist to her arguments with the other students. I must say that everything falls on her in a very short time and we can only remain impressed by the courage and determination of this young girl.
 
I was very intrigued by Linus, the father of Logan. We didn’t know him, and I must say he makes a strong impression here. He is an arrogant man who does not realize the consequences of what he says. And whatever his son tries to explain what happens, he remains determined to believe only what he wants to. We understand, however, that he adores his son behind this facade and he would do anything for him. A new character also appeared here: Alexei and I look forward to learn more about him.

This novel really took me by the feelings and I was completely absorbed by the story we read very quickly. I didn’t even see the pages that the story was already finished. I was really sad for our characters and I perfectly understood how they felt. Jennifer Estep has done a great job for us to understand what Gwen had endured throughout the story. It was a very good new book and I’m really intrigued by the turn of events.

Peu importe ce que je faisais pour oublier ce qui s’était passé, je le voyais partout où j’allais. C’était Loki, le dieu du mal que j’avais aidé à libérer contre ma volonté.


J’aurais dû savoir que mon premier rendez-vous officiel avec Logan Quinn se finirait par un désastre. Si nous nous étions retrouvés dans un combat d’épée, ou pris en embuscade par des reapers, j’aurais été mieux préparée. Mais se faire arrêter au café local ? Je ne l’ai pas vu venir.

J’ai été accusée d’avoir aidé de mon plein gré les Reapers à libérer Loki de sa prison et la personne qui mène les charges contre moi, c’est Linus Quinn, le père de Logan. Le pire, c’est que presque tout le monde à Mythos Académie pense que je suis coupable. Si je me sors de ce pétrin en vie, je vais devoir le faire moi-même …

Avis : J’étais vraiment curieuse de pouvoir découvrir ce quatrième tome de Jennifer Estep. En effet, chaque nouvel opus nous entraine un peu plus dans les problèmes de Gwen et depuis la libération de Loki, on savait que nombre de choses allaient se passer cette fois. Ce roman le confirme parfaitement.

Gwen se retrouve dès le début accusée par une personne dont elle ne connait pas l’identité de faire partie des reapers et de les avoir aidé délibérément à libérer le Dieu. Mais en plus de cela elle est soupçonnée d’être sa championne et non celle de Nyx. Pendant tout le « procès » elle a le droit de rester à l’académie et de suivre ses cours mais le tout en étant suivie par un garde pour la surveiller de près. C’est cependant très dur pour notre héroïne, quand elle comprend que ses amis mis à part, tout le monde la pense coupable et la traite comme une moins que rien. Et quoi qu’elle fasse rien n’y change, surtout quand elle comprend que ceux qui sont censés choisir sa sentence ne l’aiment pas du tout.
J’ai eu vraiment beaucoup de peine pour Gwen tout au long du roman, il faut dire qu’elle traverse de nombreuses épreuves souvent toute seule. Parce que oui bien sûr, ses amis sont là pour la soutenir, mais ils ne peuvent pas la protéger continuellement. On peut ainsi se rendre compte de la méchanceté des autres à son encontre, ne cherchant même pas à savoir si elle est coupable ou innocente. Et notre petite Gwen reste stoïque face à tant de haine, essayant de rester debout et de faire à chacun du mieux qu’elle peut. Ça nous brise cependant le cœur de la voir comme ça et d’assister ainsi aux échanges des autres étudiants. Il faut dire que tout lui tombe dessus en très peu de temps et on ne peut rester qu’impressionné par le courage et la détermination de cette jeune fille.
J’ai été très intriguée par Linus, le père de Logan. On ne le connaissait pas encore et je dois dire qu’il a fait forte impression ici. C’est un homme arrogant, qui ne se rend pas compte des conséquences de ce qu’il dit. Et quoi que son fils essaie de lui expliquer, rien n’y fait, il reste déterminé à ne croire que ce qu’il veut. On comprend cependant qu’il aime énormément son fils derrière cette façade et qu’il ferait tout pour lui. Un nouveau personnage fait aussi son apparition Alexei et j’ai hâte d’en apprendre plus sur lui.
Ce roman m’a vraiment pris par les sentiments et j’ai complètement été absorbée par l’histoire qui se lit très vite. On ne voit même pas passer les pages et l’histoire est déjà finie. J’ai vraiment eu beaucoup de peine pour nos personnages et on comprend parfaitement ce qu’ils ressentent. Jennifer Estep a fait un très beau travail pour nous communiquer tout ce qu’endure Gwen tout au long de l’histoire. C’était un nouveau très bon tome et je suis vraiment intriguée par la tournure des prochains événements.

Mythos Academy, Book 3

Synopsis: I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me—again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects—and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me?

It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me—and I’m in for the fight of my life. 


Review: I was impatient to read this book since Kiss of Frost because of its end. I really liked the first volume, which surprised me in many ways, however, it was a little different for the second one and I wondered how it would be with the third. Well I have to say that I ultimately preferred this one as the previous was a little too predictable.

Gwen is back from her vacation, more determined than ever to find the dagger from her mother,  by all means. But the reapers will be there as well and will complicate her mission. Well, it will be very difficult for our heroine from the start of the book (really! Since the first pages!). Indeed she is attacked and some persons are murdered at the museum where she was for a work. This volume is a turning point in the story and presents many things we wanted since the beginning of the series.

We also hoped for a progression in the relationship between Logan and Gwen and it is finally in this volume that we understand what is happening or what will happen. I really like the Spartan, though some of his choices are not always the wisest. It was hard for me to admit that he could not understand what was happening or to know why he doesn’t want her to know more about him, but it is also what makes the complexity of this character.

And what about Gwen? She has a lot more responsibilities here and I’m always impressed to see how she manages to handle all the events. She has considerably evolved since the first volume; it’s pretty impressive to see the woman she has become, especially when we know that she didn’t know this world until recently. She is more calm, more ready to find solutions to their problems or even just ready to fight. Who remembers the girl who did not know how to handle a sword? Well yes, now it’s a little easier for her, well, of course, She is not REALLY that good, but she slowly manages to learn.

I was also very surprised to find the Fenrir of the second volume here, and I must say that I love this animal and we try throughout the book to understand what she really wants. It was a very good idea to introduce her to us and I’m curious to see what will happen in the next volume.

We also discover the Loki’s champion, a person I did not expect at all. Well we suspect a lot of characters, but I didn’t really think it would be this one. I feel that the rest of the story will be epic now that we discover gradually the truth.

Another good third book and I’ll read the fourth with pleasure.
