Unspoken by C.C. Hunter

Shadow Falls: After Dark, Book 3

Synopsis : Despite her superhuman strength and enhanced senses, Della Tsang’s life as a vampire certainly hasn’t been easy. Especially since she was reborn and bound to the mysterious, infuriating, and gorgeous Chase Tallman.

But if there’s one thing that’s always kept Della going, it’s her dream of being an elite paranormal investigator. Her newest case is the opportunity she’s been waiting for, but as Della tries to solve the twenty year old murder and clear her father’s name. She uncovers secrets about the vampire council. And about Chase.

Feeling betrayed by all the secrets he’s kept hidden from her, Della is determined to keep him as far away from her heart as she can. But she’ll need his help to solve the case that will lead them into the darkest and ugliest vampire gangs in town and into the scariest reaches of her heart.

Review: I have never read the original series which is derived from these spin-off books, but I had a great time with the first two novels. So with the announcement of this third and last volume, I admit that I was really intrigued. I did not know at the start that we would have a trilogy, but it’s a pleasure to finally have the all the issues that remained and the outstanding answers. And it’s true that once again I was completely carried away by the story and the characters.

We find again our dear Della just after the end of the first volume. It must be said that nothing is easy for her. Her father is accused of murdering her aunt, Chase has once again completely disappointed and betrayed her and her family, or more specifically her father does not want her in his house, something very difficult to accept for the girl. But now, Della is determined to clear her father’s name and to stay away from Chase this time, whatever he may try to get her back. Is it even possible? Forced to team up with the vampire, the girl will face many troubles and many doubts about the death of her aunt. I confess that I myself was very curious to find out what exactly had happened between her father, uncle and the deceased. Moreover, it was nice to know a little more about Eddie as we heard talked tremendously about him. It was very intriguing and interesting to follow our heroine and to discover with her little by little the truth. We also want her to finally know if she can trust Chase or not but it is true that he does not help her at all although he is determined.

As I said I had a great time with this story, and even if it is a last volume (I am always wary of the conclusions), I had a great time once again and Della is a character that is fun to follow. The writing is fluid and it is a treat to discover the ideas of the author. I wonder now if she will turn to another spin-off to follow other characters or if she will remain there with this universe. But I know that I should now to try the original series to find out how it all started. I think the fans will be excited to try this little trilogy which is very pleasant to read. So, yes, a very good novel and a good conclusion for some volumes equal to each other.

Unspoken de C.C. Hunter (VO)

Shadow Falls: After Dark, Tome 3

Eternal by C. C. Hunter

Shadow Falls: After Dark, Book 2

Synopsis: All her life, Della’s secret powers have made her feel separated from her human family. Now, she’s where she belongs, at Shadow Falls. With the help of her best friends Kylie and Miranda, she’ll try to prove herself in the paranormal world as an investigator—all the while trying to figure out her own heart. Should she chose Chase, a powerful vampire with whom she shares a special bond? Or Steve, the hot shapeshifter whose kisses make her weak in the knees? When a person with dark connection to her past shows up, it’ll help her decide which guy to choose–and make her question everything she knows about herself.

Review: I was really looking forward to reading more about Della after finishing the first volume. The prequel has allowed me to wait a bit before reading this new novel and I was glad to discover the short story before this one as we learn more about the Chase’s past. The first volume had left us with a cliffy that made me impatient for the second volume. Oh yes because I was curious to see what would happen between Della, Steve and Chase.

So we find our beloved heroine who must manage the bound developed between her and Chase. But what can she do? Whatever she does to forget it, it is alive and here. Yet we have Steve, the boy she likes a lot, and she knows she can not leave him. However, things could change when she learns that the boy has to leave for several months and he asks her to settle her story with Chase to see what she really wants to do next. It’s pretty sad to see Della, as well as Steve and at the same time we understand why he does so. It must be very difficult to see the girl he loves away from him in this way, especially knowing that she also works with the vampire. Hopefully everything will work out in the end but it’s true that it’s hard to say which boy I would prefer for her. Both are very different but while Steve is quite the nice guy, Chase remains opposed and his secrets could well ruin everything. Yes because it is very easy to trust the first one while we still do not know what to do with the young vampire and the end of the story changes our mind again.

But in addition to this romance rather complicated, Chase and Della must work together. Indeed, it seems that two vampires are gone, locked to die alone. But the two manage to collect visions of their survival and they will do everything to try to find them whatever everyone can say in relation to their chances of success. Added to this, they will also both be helped by a ghost, a person we do not know the identity initially. But nothing is simple for Della when in addition, her family stories are added, completely turning the girl upside down who seems to have initiated many things without really knowing it.

So again I had a great time and I love to follow all the heroes present here. It was a great surprise and I look forward to read more after such a purpose!

Unbreakable by C.C. Hunter

Shadow Falls: After Dark,  Book 0.5

Synospsis: He isn’t everything he says he is. He’s even more

Who is Chase Tallman, the newest member of Shadow Falls? What made him into the sexy, mysterious vampire he is today? And what led him to Della Tsang?

Step back in time and unearth the secrets that haunt him. The secret of how he became a vampire—and how he knows so much about being reborn. Secrets about his first love, his family–and what steers him toward Della, the beautiful, complicated girl he just can’t seem to stay away from. The one who makes him want things he thought he’d given up on long ago.

It all began with a research study, a palm reader, and a plane crash that sent him on a quest…for a love that’s unbreakable.

Review: I was immediately intrigued when I found out about this novella. I had a good time with the first volume and until the release of the second, I was curious to learn more about Chase. Oh yes, because it is a very mysterious character who hides a lot of things and this story allows us to learn a little more about his past and how he became the person he is today.

Now, we find the boy from the time when he was human and lived with his family like everyone else, trying to manage his older sister, to understand how to charm his first love and face the change in his life. Yes even in very few pages we learn a lot about this character that we knew practically nothing about.

It was a good introduction and despite the few pages, we have a good complete story, giving us a more comprehensive view of this character. I confess that I am now very curious to read the second novel to see if Chase is also present and thus learn more about him. If you like the series, this novella will be a nice complement.

Unbreakable de C.C. Hunter (VO)

Shadow Falls: After Dark, Tome 0.5

Reborn by C.C. Hunter

Shadow Falls: After Dark, Book 1

Synopsis: Enter Shadow Falls: After Dark and meet a vampire named Della, who’s about to discover what her own story is meant to be. . . .

Della had the perfect life—the family, a boyfriend, and a bright future—until she was turned, and abandoned by everyone she loves. She takes refuge at Shadow Falls, a camp for teens with paranormal powers. It’s where she and her best friends, Kylie and Miranda, heal their heartbreak with laughter, and where Della is training to be a paranormal investigator—and she refuses to be distracted. That means there’s no time for romance with Steve, a gorgeous shapeshifter whose kisses melt her heart.

When a new vampire named Chase shows up at camp, Della’s world is thrown into even more chaos. Arrogant and annoyingly sexy, Chase is a mystery . . . and the only mystery Della likes is one she can solve. She can’t solve Chase, at least not while she’s dealing with ghostly hauntings, vampire gangs and a web of family secrets. Can she prove herself as an investigator and keep her life—and her heart—intact?

Review: When I saw the book, I immediately knew that it was a spin-off series to another series that I have not read of course. But since this was the first volume, I thought I could maybe try it and see what would happen in the end. And I can tell you that I had a great time with the novel! It is true that some events are sometimes referred to others, which I think happened in the other novels, but I do not think it was a bother, and I am now very curious to read all the others to discover more about Della and Kylie.

Della is a young vampire who struggles to accept herself… I must say that we understand her when we discover the environment in which she was raised. It really hurts my heart to see that the simple act of going home has become an ordeal and her parents treat her like a pariah. But she does not do much against that and she lets them treat her as they want to. The words hurt, as well as the lack of attention. This is something very difficult and every meeting really broke my heart. We understand her desire to be accepted by her family she loves, but it seems in the end impossible. The only place she can call home, is none other than the Shadow Falls Camp, where her friends are always there for her. I loved the three girls that the author presents us. They are different from each other and yet they are all so interesting to discover… But Della must also manage other problems here, as her feelings towards the charming Steve. I enjoyed this character who does not run away from the young woman, whatever she does to push him away. We see that they greatly appreciate each other but the fear of commitment of the young woman poses very quickly many worries. But of course there is more and the story focuses on two main areas: the Della’s research over her family, to find out if one of her uncle is as she is, and an investigation of murders perpetrated by vampires. Yes, our heroine will really have many things to do, especially with the arrival of another character: Chase. Oh boy … what to say about him? He seems strangely interested in the girl without us understanding exactly why and when Della is instantly suspicious of this new vampire, it seems that she will spend more time with him than she would have thought at first. This is a very dark character compared to Steve and it’s true that I was really intrigued by him. But one thing is for sure, I didn’t know the reason for his presence and I’m really eager to discover the next book to learn more now. Oh yes, because a major event happens at the end of the story.

Della is a complex character, strong but also very vulnerable. We quickly understand why she does not want to open herself to other persons and at the same time, these same persons manage to create a place in her heart without her realizing it. I know many of you will say that this is again a vampire story like the others, but it is far from being the case. There is really no question of blood, because it is not what the author was really interested in, but the plot and the different characters are really put forward for our greatest pleasure. Many events take place here, with a good pace throughout the chapters. It was a great pleasure to discover this novel and as I said I now look forward to more and maybe read the previous series. A beautiful surprise!
