The Force of Wind by Elizabeth Hunter

The Elemental Mysteries, Book 3

Synopsis: How far would you go to protect the ones you love?

What would you sacrifice to kill the one you hate?

Join Giovanni Vecchio and Beatrice De Novo as they travel to a hidden island on the far edge of China to seek the help of an ancient immortal court. Can they weave their way through the tangled web of centuries-old alliances and ruthless feuds to find what they’ve been looking for? Friends will be revealed, enemies will find them, and a dangerous secret will come to light.

Review: It’s always a great pleasure to see Gio and Beatrice for following them in a new adventure. We hoped for a long time to assist to the meeting between Beatrice and her father and I think we could have expected everything but not that. Everything finally happens so simply and we’re very happy to see them together like that, mainly when we think about all she had been through for this moment. All the readers I’m sure had an idea about Stephen because it was difficult to not imagine him. And I finally think it was quite the picture I had in mind despite there were a lot of elements I didn’t have as well. He is a brave man, fascinated by books, but a man who also loves his daughter more than anything in the world. I think we didn’t expect the difficulties he had to leave her behind for so long. I really enjoyed their meeting and their adaptation together. Because of course it’s quite complicated as well.
Beatrice and Gio travel to China to visit a very old vampire, the Tenzin’s sire, to learn more about the stolen book. And what a surprise when we learn that Stephen is here too, studying it. Another vampire will also be present all along the story, sent by Ernesto to protect her granddaughter. Baojia surprised me a lot, he is a mysterious character, intriguing and resourceful. He will help B. to learn to fight while flirting with her a little as well. I loved each their meetings as the Gio’s jealousy. This new character brings a light touch in the story and I really hope we would see him again in another volume.
Oh course it can’t be perfect all the time and everything will change when Lorenzo comes to get back his book. It’s always very interesting to know what this character has prepared for us. It’s impossible to know what he has in mind. He establishes a lot of plans for our heroine and if it’s evident for him it’s really not the case for us, it’s quite frustrating to not know them.
This volume is again a very good novel, we learn more about our new characters, about their desires, but we also discover some new aspects about this world where they evolve. There are no downtimes in the story and we never get bored. It’s a saga that deserved to be known and I can’t wait to read the fourth novel to learn more about the mysterious manuscript.

  1. Yay! I’m reading a book right now that’s so hard to get through that I’m really glad this series is one that is fast-paced enough that you never get bored — that’s exactly what I need! With how many books there are to read, I’m starting to get a little more impatient about slower-paced books haha :’)

Awesome review, Mel! Don’t vampires just make everything more interesting? 😉 <3
