Review: It is always a pleasure to read a good chick-lit novel! I did not know how it would be, but I’m really glad I tried as it was a nice surprise.

Rachel Summers settled herself into a routine in her marriage, no longer taking care of herself. But after five years together it is a bit difficult to change what she is. Yet she sees herself married to this man, Simon, and having children to continue her life with him. But her dream is broken overnight when he asks her to take a break, then leaves her on the worst way. It was quite sad to see how he treats her when she only thinks of him and loves him a lot. She would do anything to get him back, so he could understand the mistake he made in leaving her, but nothing works. It must be said that he isn’t very sensitive, he is so mean with her, explaining that she is not the woman of his life, that she is boring and uninteresting. This story will completely destroy the Rachel’s life, she will begin to doubt about herself, wondering how she will be able to live as a single person, something she has never tried before. Fortunately for her, she will constantly be surrounded by friends who will do anything to put her on the right path. Emelie and Matthew are two fantastic persons; they will stay with her, help her to recover. We can only love them both and hope that our own friends would be willing to do that much in such a situation.

Rachel tries to do her best, even returns to work but nothing goes as planned and she is fired by her boss, the sexy Dan. With some OCDs that compel her to make lists every day to see what she has to do, she realizes with the help of her friends, a list of 10 things to do to really understand how it is to be single. 10 completely crazy things that are dear to her heart as she is finally ready to perform them. These things will change her dramatically, she will end up with more confidence, and she will be able to take care of herself alone.

I loved this novel, we can read it pretty fast. Rachel is a character I liked to follow, it is very easy to understand and appreciate her. We’re sad for her, then happy, and we would sometimes like to make her understand the things she does not realize. Her list will make her do things she would have never dared to do before, and it was nice to see her evolve and change throughout the story. In this kind of books we often have a silly and stupid heroine, but this is not the case here, Rachel is intelligent, determined and beautiful. In addition to this we discover her family and friends who are all colorful. I looked forward to the confrontation with Simon, and was not disappointed. I was glad she doesn’t stay half the book sad for herself and her lost relationship, but she understands that ultimately he was not for her.

It was a very good novel, and I think if I get the chance I will read other books of this author.
