The Billionaire Cowboy by Mandy Baxter

Billionaire’s Club, Book 1

Synopsis: Billionaire Ryder Blackwell has got it all under control. The wealthiest cattle baron this side of the Mississippi, he’s built an empire for himself in hopes of getting distance from a tortured past. But when a stunningly sexy—and strong-willed—new vet comes to town just in time for Christmas, Ryder knows he’s met the one spirit he just can’t tame…Lara Montgomery doesn’t want to be involved with any man, least of all the rich, infuriating, and unbearably sexy Ryder Blackwell. She vows never to tangle with the charming rancher, but when he offers her the ultimate deal—one weekend at his ranch in exchange for a near-priceless horse—Lara cannot refuse. And as the nights get colder and their attraction gets hotter, Lara’s about to get all she’s ever wanted for Christmas…

Review: Amanda Bonilla/Mandy Baxter presents us here a new series, a cowboy romance. It’s been a while since I’ve read a story like this one but it was very nice to fall back into the genre. The format is pretty short, but it is also something that is interesting because it allows us to read the book between two novels and quite fast.

Ryder Blackwell owns a ranch and became a billionaire in years. He always gets what he wants, remains a highly coveted man and does not hesitate to control everything and everyone around him. Yet a person will resist him … Lara. He tries to invite this woman to a date since he met her but the latter refused each time. Stung, he will do everything to get her to come to the ranch and for that he buys the horse she wanted more than anything as it seems like the only solution. But by playing with fire, he may well be burned too. But whatever happens, Lara is determined to stay away from him!

I enjoyed getting to know these two characters. Lara is a young woman who is determined in her choices, and has nothing to do with Ryder’s money as she only wants to make a name in her city. She has not had an easy life and it is true that it is very easy to understand her desires, even if nothing is simple. We understand why she tries to stay away from Ryder and yet it’s true that it’s a shame. As for Ryder, he had a complicated life as well and we discover more about that in the story. He is a man who is used to getting everything he wants, and for once, this one resists him, making her even more irresistible. The tension and chemistry between the two is really explosive and it’s true that their relationship is full of sparks. It was really nice to see them together.

Before revealing all, I’ll stop there. I’ll just say that it was a great find and I’m curious about the next book in the series to see who will be featured this time.

  1. Ah, the covers of the ‘cowboy’ books I remember my grandad reading have certainly changed, not that I remember him reading a cowboy/romance hybrid novel of course.

A genre I confess to having read little of, whilst I do like the sound of the story I’m afraid the cover does put me off.

  2. I love that the heroine, Lara, sounds like she gave this cowboy a good chase! I do love to escape with romances an it’s been so long since I’ve read one with a cowboy that I’m keeping this one in mind. Glad it was a fun read Melliane 🙂

  3. I cannot believe that I haven’t read any cowboy book yet. I mean I really want to but somehow our paths never crossed. Anyhow this one seems really interesting and I’m so happy you enjoyed it. Great review, Meliane 🙂
