DNF – City of Lies by Sam Hawke

Poison Wars, Book 1

Synopsis: I was seven years old the first time my uncle poisoned me… Outwardly, Jovan is the lifelong friend of the Chancellor’s charming, irresponsible Heir. Quiet. Forgettable. In secret, he’s a master of poisons and chemicals, trained to protect the Chancellor’s family from treachery. When the Chancellor succumbs to an unknown poison and an army lays siege to the city, Jovan and his sister Kalina must protect the Heir and save their city-state.
But treachery lurks in every corner, and the ancient spirits of the land are rising…and angry.

Review: This is a novel that I was looking forward to. The synopsis immediately attracted me and I was curious to discover this novel by Sam Hawke. Only here … I have not managed to connect to the story. Oh, yet I persisted and I almost read 50% of the novel, but at one point I had to admit that it didn’t work out. It’s been a long time since I DNF abook, it’s not my habit, but I realized the obvious thing. I can not say why it did not work out, but I’m sure it will find its audience!
