Day 9 – Interview – Keri Arthur (Concours – Giveaway)

Welcome to Keri Arthur. She is a success author of many series! Thanks to her for the answers and for the international giveaway for an ebook of Unlit.

Welcome on Between Dreams and Reality, can you introduce yourself in a few words?

Hi everyone! I’m Keri Arthur, and I’ve now written over 40 books, the most famous of which is the Riley Jenson, Guardian series. I’m a former chef who now writes full time, and I live in Melbourne, Australia.

Your books are awesome and each series is different from the others, how did you manage to find different ideas for each of them?

I have a very weird imagination!!

For me, ideas can come from many different places, but they all have one thing in common—they strike at the weirdest time! Sometimes come from dreams—for example, the start of Kissing Sin, the 2nd book in the Riley Jenson series, was developed from a really weird dream I’d had.

The start of Darkness Unbound, the 1st of the Dark Angels series, happened thanks to the really thick fog I was driving through one morning. The fog was swirling really strangely and it almost looked like there were creatures moving through it. And that’s when the first line— “I’ve always seen the reapers” came to me.

And sometimes it can be something as simple as watching a movie and thinking, “No, you’re doing it all wrong, you should do this!” and I then end writing a completely different novel from it J

You have some PNR, some UF novels and others a bit dystopian/sci-fi, what do you prefer?

I actually don’t have a preference, and I’ve never really worried about trying to fit my stories into one particular genre. I just write the stories I want, and worry about what genre they might be afterward.

Some of your series aren’t completely finished, will we have the chance to have sequels one day? Who needs enemies was a really great one!

I think I have 3 unfinished series, from memory. The 1st one is the Spook Squad series, and the final book of that never happened because Full Moon Rising (Riley 1) got picked up, and I had to concentrate on that. I won’t finish it now (a) because it’s over 15 years since I’ve written those books, and I have no idea where now I was going with them, and (b) I have no idea where the old notes for the series is.

I have started the sequel to Who Needs Enemies, but the damn book is not cooperating! I’m just stuck, I’m afraid.

The Souls of Fire series was dropped by the publisher (as was The Outcast Series). While I self-published The Black Tide to finish the Outcast Series, there’s too many books left in the Souls of Fire series, and at this stage, I’m not sure I’ll finish it.

You chose to work by self-publishing for the last novels, is there a reason to this choice?

I was testing the self-publishing waters with Blood Kissed, the 1st of the Lizzie Grace novels, but it was publisher dropping both the Souls of Fire and Outcast series that forced me to self-publish full time.

Your last series Lizzie Grace is about to have its 3rd book to be released, can you tell more about this series for the persons who don’t know it?

The premise of the Lizzie Grace series is basically two witches in a werewolf reservation helping to solve supernatural crimes.  Over the course of the series, you get to know more about Lizzie, her family, and why she’s on the run from them.

How is your writing process?

Right now, it’s busy! Lol

Generally though, I usually catch up with emails, Facebook, Twitter, etc, in the mornings, and then write in the afternoon/evening. I have a set target of words to write each day, and most days I just write to I achieve the target.

Do you have some future projects that you could share with us?

I’ve just released Unlit, the 1st book in my Kingdoms of Earth and Air fantasy series. The main character is a soldier without magic who must save a city that reveres it. Each book in this series is a stand alone, but they’re all set in the same world.  If you liked the Outcast series, I think you’ll like this one, as it’s got the same mix of magic and technology.

In August, I have Hunter Hunted, the 3rd of the Lizzie Grace series coming out. In this one, Lizzie’s hopes of a quiet Christmas come crashing down when a new evil steps into town—one that’s hunting werewolves and stealing their pelts.

And then in Nov, Cursed—book 2 in the Kingdoms of Earth and Air series—comes out. This one centers around one woman’s quest to regain her throne and save her world.

If the end of the world was coming and that you had to team up with fictional characters, what would be your choice?

If we’re talking about my books, Tiger for sure! Although Riley would be a very close second choice.

If we’re talking movies, then Wonder Woman, Okoye, Ripley, Black Widow, Wolverine, and Thor (because we ladies need someone pretty to look at)  J

J’avais adoré Who Needs Enemies !

Kingdoms of Earth and Air, #1

Synopsis: Winterborne has long been a city divided between those who have magic, and those who do not. Between those who are free, and those who are not…

Though classified as having no magic, Neve March can hear the whispers of the wind and sometimes even control her. But it’s a secret she must hold close if she wishes to continue as Nightwatch—the soldiers who guard Winterborne against those who roam the wastelands and feast on human flesh.

When Neve is sent to investigate a faint SOS signal, she not only unearths a woman close to death, but a plot involving an ancient enemy long thought dead.

In an effort to expose those behind the plot, Neve goes undercover amongst Winterborne’s elite—a dangerous step that could expose her secret and rip away all that she holds dear.

The trail of treachery leads her from Winterborne’s golden halls to the heart of the enemy’s hive, and it will shake her belief of not only who she is, but what she is

  1. I enjoy so many of the series by this author. I didn’t know she was a chef – cool! Anyway, I’d like to have her write more of both the unfinished series. I’m definitely all in to Souls of Fire. I’m also reading both new series – Lizzie Grace and the Kingdom of Earth and Air. Thanks for sharing this interview. Anne – Books of My Heart
