The Devil Wears Scrubs by Freida McFadden

Dr. Jane McGill, Book 1

Synopsis: Newly minted doctor Jane McGill is in hell.

Not literally, of course. But between her drug addict patients, sleepless nights on call, and battling wits with the sadistic yet charming Sexy Surgeon, Jane can’t imagine an afterlife much worse than her first month of medical internship at County Hospital.

And then there’s the devil herself: Jane’s senior resident Dr. Alyssa Morgan. When Alyssa becomes absolutely hell-bent on making her new interns pay tenfold for the deadly sin of incompetence, Jane starts to worry that she may not make it through the year with her soul or her sanity still intact.

Review: I was very curious when I discovered this novel. It must be said that it seemed full of humor and the hospital setting made me want to discover the story! However, I must say that from the beginning, a few things bothered me. You see, her first patient is morbidly obese. It is a very difficult disease and the reflection of our young doctor is that her fist, or even her arm can fit into his bulges… I admit that I didn’t like the comparison. Then, when they want to return him, she asks a nurse for help and she calls 10 people to return him. I thought it was a little too much and it made me a little uncomfortable.

Apart from that, Jane is very upset in this hospital where everyone treats her like shit. And if I liked the author’s style, it wasn’t easy to get carried away by the story. Then, I must say that maybe I shouldn’t have looked at the synopsis of Volume 2 because it cooled me down a bit… Married with a child, and she wonders, as her marriage has some problems, if she made the right choice with her husband and if she shouldn’t have chosen the Sexy Surgeon who is also a real asshole.

It’s an ok book, that’s entertaining, but not really for me.
