The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood

The Serpent Gates, Book 1

Synopsis: What if you knew how and when you will die?

Csorwe does — she will climb the mountain, enter the Shrine of the Unspoken, and gain the most honored title: sacrifice.

But on the day of her foretold death, a powerful mage offers her a new fate. Leave with him, and live. Turn away from her destiny and her god to become a thief, a spy, an assassin—the wizard’s loyal sword. Topple an empire, and help him reclaim his seat of power.

But Csorwe will soon learn – gods remember, and if you live long enough, all debts come due.

Review: This is a novel that intrigued me when I heard about it, so I gladly threw myself into the story.

Csorwe always knew the day she was going to die. Being a bride of a God, she must be sacrificed for him at the age of 16. She didn’t think she had any other options until a magician offered her to go with him and to discover the world. But this mage has his own goals and if Csorwe does everything to help him, she will soon realize that it is not all that simple. And especially that the Gods have not forgotten who she was and that she betrayed them.

I had a good time with this novel and the story, even if I have to say that the whole is quite dense. Csorwe is going to discover a world she didn’t know, but she will also make beautiful encounters while facing the truth, even if it is difficult. Our heroine won’t expect her past to catch up with her either, and she will have to make difficult choices, sometimes even betraying people she trusted.

It was a good discovery full of originality that I would gladly recommend.
