Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire

Wayward Children, Book 6

Synopsis: A young girl discovers a portal to a land filled with centaurs and unicorns in Seanan McGuire’s Across the Green Grass Fields, a standalone tale in the Hugo and Nebula Award-wining Wayward Children series.

“Welcome to the Hooflands. We’re happy to have you, even if you being here means something’s coming.”

Regan loves, and is loved, though her school-friend situation has become complicated, of late.

When she suddenly finds herself thrust through a doorway that asks her to “Be Sure” before swallowing her whole, Regan must learn to live in a world filled with centaurs, kelpies, and other magical equines―a world that expects its human visitors to step up and be heroes.

But after embracing her time with the herd, Regan discovers that not all forms of heroism are equal, and not all quests are as they seem…

Avis : I did read the first three volumes and if I wasn’t up to date to read this one, I was very curious to read this new novel. As the synopsis says, it is no problem to read this novel without having read the others and I must say that once again Seanan McGuire has come up with a very good story.

Regan is a girl like any other. But when she learns a truth that her parents had kept from her, she thinks she can tell her friend about it. Yet her reaction is not what she expected. So she finds herself caught up in another reality, a reality made of magic, centaurs, unicorns and many other things. But it is also a place where people expect her to be a hero and she doesn’t know if she will be a match.

It was really a nice little story with important themes, a little tale that allows us to have a good time! The author takes us into her fantastic world and it was, as always, a great pleasure!
