Lost in the Moment and Found by Seanan McGuire

Wayward Children, Book 8

Synopsis: A young girl discovers an infinite variety of worlds in this standalone tale in the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Wayward Children series from Seanan McGuire, Lost in the Moment and Found.

Welcome to the Shop Where the Lost Things Go.

If you ever lost a sock, you’ll find it here.
If you ever wondered about favorite toy from childhood… it’s probably sitting on a shelf in the back.
And the headphones that you swore that this time you’d keep safe? You guessed it….

Antoinette has lost her father. Metaphorically. He’s not in the shop, and she’ll never see him again. But when Antsy finds herself lost (literally, this time), she finds that however many doors open for her, leaving the Shop for good might not be as simple as it sounds.

And stepping through those doors exacts a price.

Lost in the Moment and Found tells us that childhood and innocence, once lost, can never be found.

Review: This is a new volume in the Seanan McGuire’s series and I was very curious to dive in.

The author offers us a story about manipulation and pedophilia. These are strong themes, approached with a lot of delicacy.

Antoinette is going to walk through a door, a door that will lead her to a store in which she will be stuck. She didn’t know what was waiting for her, but she knows that she can’t stay at home. Even without really understanding everything, she always felt uncomfortable with her stepfather, until she couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to leave. She is sure that her mother will not believe her anyway, so what choice did she have?

We follow our young heroine to a store where everything that was lost in all the worlds is found. An incredible place. But it is also a place she cannot leave and whose secrets she will discover little by little.

A nice story.
