Review: I think the more I advance in the series the more I like it but I do not think that it will become one of my favorite one day. These are books that are read very quickly and I have to say that the story was interesting even if some small points bothered me. Did I put Aubrey in the small points? (tell me that I can say yes!). I still do not understand why he irritates me so much but then that’s really the case! I hope that one day it will pass (I hope so because I’d be annoyed if not).

So we find our little group called by Aubrey’s (yes the same one) ex-wife: Kim. So of course the only thing that bothers Jayne is what her beloved will do when he will see Kim. And it must be said that despite his explanations, Jayne is not convinced by what is going to happen. It must be said that a big part of the story is based on our little trio and the future of their relationship. That still leaves finally little for the rest.

As for the intrigue, therefore, the problems will take place in a strange hospital, specifically the Grace Memorial. Indeed, a doctor conducts researches to discover people’s dreams but when each patient began to dream of the same thing, and that some fled away, he sees himself forced to ask for help to understand what it is happening. However, the research is advancing and the danger is approaching.

I confess that I did not expect this course of history. Especially not such a purpose. Oh and I had a little moment of joy anyway (you will understand why if you read it). Jayne is changing more and more in the books, but she is still the same girl looking for a family who is willing to love her. The concern is that it also affects her every act and at the same time, she wants to be the worthy Eric’s heir. It’s something that she manages to deal with in some cases when of course she does not doubt about herself (something that happens very often). It makes sense, it is true, she can not be transformed directly into someone she is not, but sometimes we would like it to be the case. I confess that the last sentence of the book surprised me. I told myseld “AAAh finally!”, Yes, because I wondered if she would understand what was happening. Well I did not agree with her hypothesis, I found mine much more logical but it’s still brought perfectly. So I’m really curious to read the fourth book to learn more (especially after all these events).

We are intrigued by the story throughout the book, trying to understand what is behind these dreams without getting to really know the reason until the end (or at least that was the case for me). I was quite surprised when I learned the truth and I think that M.L.N. Hanover had worked well to lead us and make us believe many facts throughout the book.

So it was finally a really nice story and the novel is enjoyable to read. I really think my favorite character is Jack Chogi. He has so many facets and is so quiet, it’s really interesting to have a character so different from the others. To see what the fourth volume will reserve us!

Rêves impies de M.L.N. Hanover

La Fille du Soleil Noir, Tome 3

Résumé : Il se trame quelque chose dans un des hôpitaux de Chicago : des patients disparaissent. Cinq cents ans auparavant, une créature a été enterrée sous le bâtiment… et fait aujourd hui tout pour recouvrer la liberté. Jayné est prête à l’affronter. Pourtant, le plus dangereux pour elle est sans doute le mal auquel elle doit faire face quotidiennement, et qui est sur le point de lui faire perdre son enveloppe charnelle, son esprit et son âme…

Avis : Je crois que plus j’avance dans la série plus je l’apprécie mais je ne pense pas qu’elle pourra atteindre un jour un coup de cœur. Ce sont des livres qui se lisent très vite je dois dire et dont l’histoire est intéressante mais il reste toujours des petits points qui m’embêtent. Est-ce que je peux mettre Aubrey dans les petits points ? (dites-moi oui !). Alors je ne comprends toujours pas pourquoi il m’irrite autant mais alors c’est vraiment le cas ! J’ai un espoir, un jour ça passera (j’espère en tout cas parce que je serais bien embêtée sinon).

On se retrouve donc avec notre petit groupe qui est appelé à l’aide par Kim l’ex-femme d’Aubrey (oui oui le même). Donc bien sûr la seule chose qui embête Jayné c’est ce que fera son cher et tendre quand il retrouvera Kim. Et il faut dire que malgré ses explications, Jayné n’est pas convaincue par ce qu’il va se passer. Il faut dire qu’une grosse partie de l’histoire est basée sur notre petit trio et sur le futur de leur relation. Ça laisse quand même finalement peu de chose pour le reste.

Pour ce qui est donc du reste, les problèmes vont se dérouler dans un hôpital assez étrange, plus particulièrement le Grace Memorial. En effet, un médecin mène des recherches afin de découvrir les rêves des gens mais quand chacun de ses patients se mettent à rêver de la même chose et que certains s’enfuient, il se voit obligé de demander de l’aide afin de comprendre ce qu’il se passe. Cependant plus les recherches avancent et plus le danger se rapproche.

J’avoue que je ne m’attendais pas à ce déroulement de l’histoire. Et surtout pas à cette fin. Oh et j’ai eu un petit moment de joie quand même (vous comprendrez pourquoi si vous le lisez). Jayné évolue de plus en plus dans les livres, mais elle reste toujours cette même fille en quête d’une famille qui veuille bien d’elle. Le souci est que cela se répercute aussi sur chacun de ses actes et en même temps, elle veut être la digne héritière d’Eric. Chose qu’elle arrive à bien gérer dans certains cas quand bien sûr elle ne doute pas d’elle-même (chose qui arrive très très souvent). C’est logique c’est vrai, elle ne peut pas non plus se transformer directement en une jeune femme qu’elle n’est pas, mais parfois on aimerait que ce soit le cas. J’avoue que la dernière phrase du livre m’a surprise. Je me suis dit « AAAh enfin ! » oui parce que je me demandais si elle allait comprendre ce qu’il se passait. Bon je ne suis pas d’accord avec son hypothèse, je trouve la mienne bien plus logique mais ça se regroupe tout de même parfaitement. Du coup, je suis vraiment curieuse de lire le quatrième tome afin d’en savoir plus (surtout après tous ces événements.)

On est intrigué par l’histoire tout au long du livre, à essayer de comprendre ce qu’il se cache derrière ces rêves sans arriver à vraiment le savoir avant la fin (ou en tout cas ça a été le cas pour moi). J’ai été assez surprise quand j’ai appris la vérité et je me suis dit que M.L.N Hanover avait bien réussi à nous promener et nous faire croire de nombreux faits tout au long du livre.

C’était donc finalement une histoire vraiment sympa et le roman est agréable à lire. Je pense vraiment que mon personnage préféré est Chogi Jack. Il a tellement de facettes et il est si posé, c’est vraiment intéressant d’avoir un personnage si différent des autres. A voir à présent ce que nous réservera le quatrième tome !

Review: I was a little hesitant to get into this second volume. In fact, I had a little trouble with the first one that I found rather flat and long but I was wondering if it would be the same for this one. It is true that since it was a first novel it is always difficult to make a strong impression. Or maybe it’s the French translation which is for something? It is always a bit tricky to know exactly the reason.

I was completely surprised by cons with this second volume. I think having read the two volumes the one after the other allowed me to really tell the difference between them. I even also immediately also chained with the third one (yes I know nothing can stop me).

Jayne is given a new mission, to go to New Orleans to help a former FBI agent who fights against the demons (I really love novels featuring this city as its history is always so fascinating ). So you can imagine, we have Voodoo here. I think it is an intriguing practice and I always love to learn a little more about it. Our group will be facing this time some new threats and demons they have never experienced before.

The plot is really well found, there are some pretty twists. It’s always nice to be sure of a few things for a part of the novel and to understand that the author finally had wandered us throughout the book to finally reveal us the truth. What bothered me, however, is that we understand many things before Jayne. And when I say that, I mean that there are facts so easy to understand and our heroine does not even begins to discern a bit of them. I wondered how it was possible! Really, there are thoughts that make us straight on the track, but then this is not the case for Jayne. Even at the end of the book. I still hoped that she would achieve all this in the third book because it makes her really naive. And when I thought it was finally finished with Aubrey, to my great relief, well, here we go again! Yay! Not bad I agree, but I do not know why I have so much trouble with this character. He’s very cute, everything is nice about him, also brave, but then I still do not understand how she manages to turn to him when two other men are really more interesting. But hey it’s true that these are just details, and I still hope (perhaps in vain) that she’ll realize what is good for her. There also may be another little thing to add. I hoped in this volume to understand a little better the origin of the Invisible College (same name in English?) because ultimately we do not know much about it, but I think it will not be this time. With luck it will be the case for the next book.

However, this is also a nice read and it’s true that I’m curious to see what will happen now be the following novel. We meet some exciting new characters and I hope we’ll have the opportunity to meet them again.

La fille du soleil noir, Tome 2

Résumé : Un tueur en série a élu domicile à La Nouvelle-Orléans, une ville où règnent tradition vaudou et magie noire. Avec l’aide de Karen Black, ancien agent du FBI, Jayné mène une course contre la montre pour trouver la prochaine victime du démon. Mais plus elle se rapproche de son objectif, plus elle apprend à se méfier des apparences. Quand de terribles secrets remontent à la surface, Jayné est confrontée à un adversaire qui la connaît très bien et qui n’aura de répit que lorsqu’il aura anéanti tous ceux qui lui sont chers.

Avis : J’avais un peu peur de me lancer dans ce deuxième tome. En effet, j’avais eu un peu de mal avec le premier que j’avais trouvé assez plat et long et je me demandais si ce serait la même chose pour celui-ci. C’est vrai qu’étant donné que c’était un premier roman c’est toujours difficile de faire forte impression. Ou peut-être que c’est la traduction en français qui y est pour quelque chose ? C’est toujours un peu compliqué de savoir exactement.

J’ai par contre été complètement surprise par ce deuxième tome. Je pense qu’avoir lu les deux volumes à la suite m’a permis de vraiment faire la différence entre chacun d’entre eux. J’ai même d’ailleurs tout de suite aussi enchainé avec le troisième (oui je sais je ne m’arrête plus).

Jayné se voit confier une nouvelle mission, se rendre à la Nouvelle Orléans afin d’aider un ancien agent du FBI qui lutte contre les cavaliers. (Comme j’aime les romans se passant dans cette ville à l’histoire toujours si fascinante). Vous vous en doutez donc, nous aurons du Vaudou. Je trouve que c’est une pratique passionnante et j’adore en apprendre toujours un peu plus à ce sujet. Notre groupe va donc être confronté cette fois-ci à de nouvelles menaces et des cavaliers tels qu’ils n’en ont jamais connu auparavant.

L’intrigue est vraiment bien trouvée, il y a de jolis retournements de situation. C’est toujours agréable d’être certain de quelques éléments pendant une partie du roman et de comprendre que finalement l’auteur nous a baladé tout au long de livre pour enfin nous révéler la vérité. Ce qui m’a cependant dérangé c’est qu’on comprend bon nombre de choses avant Jayné. Et quand je dis ça, il y a des faits tellement faciles à savoir et notre héroïne n’entraperçoit même pas un bout de réponse. Je me suis demandé comment c’était possible ? Vraiment, il y a des réflexions qui nous mettent tout de suite sur la piste, mais alors ce n’est pas du tout le cas pour notre jeune héroïne. Même à la fin du livre. J’espère quand même qu’elle réalisera tout ça dans le troisième tome parce que ça la rend vraiment naïve. Rolala et quand je pensais que c’était enfin fini avec Aubrey, à mon grand soulagement, eh ben ça recommence ! Youpi ! Non d’accord je suis méchante, mais je ne sais pas pourquoi j’ai autant de mal avec ce personnage. Il est tout mignon, tout gentil, tout brave, mais alors je ne comprends toujours pas comment elle arrive à se tourner vers lui quand elle a deux autres hommes aussi intéressants. Mais bon c’est vrai que ce ne sont que des détails, et j’ai encore espoir (peut-être en vain) qu’elle réalisera ce qui est bon pour elle. J’ai aussi peut-être une autre petite chose à rajouter. J’espérais dans ce tome comprendre un peu mieux l’origine du collège invisible car finalement nous ne connaissons pas grand-chose, mais je crois que ce ne sera pas pour cette fois. Avec de la chance ça sera le cas pour le prochain.

Cela reste cependant aussi une jolie lecture et c’est vrai que je suis curieuse de voir ce que donnera à présent le troisième. On rencontre de nouveaux personnages très intéressants et j’espère que nous aurons l’occasion de les retrouver à nouveau.

Review: I was really curious about this series. I saw some nice reviews on the latest volumes released but I also have read many mixed reviews about this first volume… I was not sure what to expect about it.

Jayne Heller is a young woman like any other who is however somewhat distant from her family for personal reasons. She finds herself now dealing with the estate of her uncle murdered in a strange way. She is however very surprised by what he has left behind him. Money more than she could ever spend, and some dangerous problems she couldn’t have expected.

So the big question is… What did I think about the book? Well I must say that I also had a mixed feeling. The ideas are very interesting, it’s true. Indeed, it’s always nice to discover new creatures and MLN Hanover has created some new villains who are feared from the beginning. They are part of a kind of sect: the invisible college, targeting humans without any reasons. We know a little bit about the topic, but we discover the details with our heroine Jayne, I however finally think that we still do not know much about them at the end. Which is quite a shame because I would have liked to understand the origins of these creatures, I’ll perhaps know it in the second volume.

In terms of characters, I must say that I struggled to hold on to Jayne. I do not really know why, but I could not put myself in her place or really understand her. And then what I do not understand at all is the reason why she is attracted to Aubrey. He is the softest and boring guy in the book … So you can understand now my feelings. Ex and Chogyi Jake were so much better, the two of them are mysterious and intriguing. This is perhaps their bad boy attitude which rather makes me want to know more about them while Aubrey would rather be the nice guy of the band.

In terms of the story I also struggled to hang out with all that was going on. It’s pretty long actually. Nothing happens (or not so much) for more than half the book. That’s right, it takes some time for get our heroine to settle down and to understand what is happening. It may be interesting to see the history and know the context, but I must say that it was a little too much, or at least for me. So I did not have as much enthusiasm as I would have thought at first.

You will think that I did not like the book now, but this is not the case, however, it is a good start to the series but I think I will have to read the second to really get an idea about the following events.

Résumé : Jayné Heller a toujours refusé de croire à la magie. Il est temps qu’elle change d’avis Son oncle décédé, elle hérite d’une fortune incroyable et d’une mission étrange : combattre une cabale de sorciers appelée le Collège Invisible. Sous l’autorité de Randolph Coin, les membres du Collège invoquent des esprits démoniaques afin d’accroître leur pouvoir. Jayné a du mal à croire à l’existence de la magie mais doit se rendre à l’évidence.

Avis : J’étais vraiment curieuse de découvrir cette série. J’avais vu de jolis avis sur les derniers tomes sortis en VO mais j’avais aussi pu lire de nombreux avis mitigés quant à ce premier tome. Je ne savais donc pas trop à quoi m’attendre.

Jayné Heller est une jeune femme comme les autres qui s’est cependant éloignée quelque peu de sa famille pour des raisons personnelles. Elle se retrouve à présent à devoir gérer la succession de son oncle assassiné de manière assez étrange. On est pourtant très surpris par tout ce qu’il a laissé derrière lui. De l’argent plus qu’elle ne pourrait jamais en dépenser, et des ennuis plus dangereux que ce qu’elle a pu rencontrer auparavant.

Alors la grande question… Qu’est-ce que j’ai pensé du livre ? Eh bien je dois dire que j’ai tout de même moi aussi eu un avis mitigé. Les idées sont très intéressantes. En effet, c’est toujours agréable de découvrir de nouvelles créatures et M.L.N Hanover a créé de nouveaux méchants que l’on redoute dès le début. Ils font partie d’une sorte de secte : le collège invisible, qui prend pour cible des humains qui n’ont rien demandé à personne. On aborde le sujet, on en découvre les détails avec notre héroïne Jayné, mais j’ai trouvé que finalement nous ne connaissions pas grand-chose à leur sujet. Ce qui est assez dommage parce que j’aurais aimé comprendre les origines de ces créatures, peut-être le saurons-nous dans le deuxième tome.

Pour ce qui est des personnages, je dois dire que j’ai eu du mal à accrocher à Jayné. Je ne sais pas très bien pourquoi, mais je n’ai pas pu me mettre à sa place ou à vraiment la comprendre. Et alors ce que je n’ai pas du tout compris c’est son attrait pour Aubrey. C’est le gars le plus mou et ennuyeux du livre… Où de ce que j’en ai pensé. J’ai tellement préféré Ex et Chogyi Jake, ces deux-là sont mystérieux et intrigant. C’est peut-être leur attitude bad boy qui m’a plutôt fait pencher vers eux alors qu’Aubrey serait plutôt le gentil gars de la bande.

Pour ce qui est de l’histoire j’ai aussi eu du mal à accrocher au départ à tout ce qu’il se passait. C’est assez long en fait. Il ne se passe rien (ou pas grand-chose) pendant plus de la moitié du livre. C’est vrai, il faut le temps à notre héroïne d’arriver, s’installer et de comprendre ce qu’il se passe. Ça peut être intéressant pour placer l’histoire et apercevoir le contexte mais je dois dire que c’était un peu trop, ou en tout cas pour moi. Du coup je n’ai pas eu autant d’enthousiasme que je l’aurais pensé.

Vous allez penser que je n’ai pas aimé le livre maintenant, mais ce n’est pas le cas c’est cependant un bon début de série mais je pense qu’il me faudra lire le deuxième pour vraiment me faire une idée quant à la suite des événements.
