DI Kim Stone, Tome 2

Résumé : Un homme est retrouvé mort à la sortie d’un pub des Midlands, son corps lacéré de coups de couteau. Un ex-taulard, condamné pour viol. Chargée de l’affaire, l’inspectrice Kim Stone débusque rapidement la coupable : Ruth, une ancienne victime. Simple vengeance ? Sauf que quelque chose ne colle pas.
Pour comprendre les raisons de ce passage à l’acte, la policière se tourne vers Alex Thorne, une psychiatre reconnue qui suivait Ruth depuis des mois.
Dès lors, leurs chemins n’en finissent plus de se croiser. D’autres meurtres vengeurs, sauvages, d’autres assassins aux profils inattendus, avec un lien en commun : Alex Thorne.
Que se passe-t-il dans le cabinet du Dr Thorne ? Quelle thérapie propose-t-elle à ses patients ? Et pourquoi Kim se sent-elle menacée par cette psychiatre qui semble si bien la connaître ?

Avis : Le premier tome avait été une jolie surprise et j’étais donc impatiente de me lancer dans ce nouveau volet.

Kim Stone aime aller au bout de ses affaires, mais la dernière en date est loin d’être facile. En effet, notre héroïne doit gérer deux cas : une histoire de pédophilie qui est très difficile à gérer et Alex Thorne, une psychiatre très étrange. Mais voilà, s’en prendre à cette femme, c’est aussi affronter son passé, et Kim n’est peut-être pas capable de le faire. Et si elle repartait dans la tourmente ?

Ce roman était très intéressant même si l’atmosphère reste très malsaine du début à la fin. J’étais mal à l’aise en le lisant, mais en même temps j’ai trouvé ça fascinant de découvrir l’histoire de Kim, son passé. Je me demande aussi ce qu’elle va faire à présent.

J’ai vu dans le résumé des prochains tomes qu’Alex serait présente dans certaines des histoires et je suis très curieuse de voir ce qu’elle fera pour atteindre Kim.

Un second tome très sympa.

Review: I was intrigued by the cover of this comic and when I saw that the theme was ghosts, I got into the story to see how it was. In fact, I couldn’t wait to finish this novel to find out what would happen to our dear Ami.

I don’t want to say too much, but I enjoyed following Ami and her friends. Nothing will be easy, but their friendship will be stronger than anything no matter what!

It was a very nice first volume. The drawings are well mastered and you can easily be taken by the story. I’m quite curious to see what will happen next.

Review: J’ai été intriguée par la couverture de ce comics et quand j’ai vu que le thème était les fantômes, j’ai craqué et je me suis lancée dans l’histoire avec grand plaisir. D’ailleurs, j’étais impatiente de terminer ce roman pour découvrir ce qui allait arriver à notre chère Ami.

Je ne veux pas en dire trop, mais j’ai apprécié de suivre Ami et ses amis. Rien ne sera simple, mais leur amitié sera plus forte que tout quoi qu’il en soit !

C’était un premier tome très sympa. Les dessins sont bien maitrisés et on se laisse emmener facilement par l’histoire. Je suis assez curieuse de voir ce qui se passera vu les évènements à la fin.

The Traders, Tome 2

Résumé : Le deuxième volet de la série Swan Hill, par l’auteure de la trilogie Cassandra 

1868. La jeune Ismay n’a qu’une envie : quitter l’Irlande pour aller rejoindre son frère Bram à Swan Hill, en Australie, là où il s’est installé avec l’ambition de faire fortune.

Mais son père veut la contraindre d’épouser un voisin, le sournois Rory Flynn, malgré l’antipathie qu’Ismay éprouve à son égard. Un jour que Rory l’a violemment agressée, elle décide de s’enfuir.

À bord du bateau qui la conduit à l’autre bout du monde, la jeune femme se fait passer pour une veuve désargentée et se lie d’amitié avec Adam Treagar.

Au fil du voyage, entre Suez et Singapour, les sentiments qu’ils éprouvent l’un pour l’autre évoluent. Ismay craint alors que sa réelle identité soit découverte. Mais Adam, lui-même, lui a-t-il dit toute la vérité ?

Avis : L’auteure écrit des romances historiques originales, de multiples séries qui se croisent et même si je ne me rappelle pas toutes les histoires, c’est toujours un plaisir de retrouver les personnages.

Nous suivons cette fois-ci, principalement, l’histoire d’Ismay et d’Adam. Ismay est la sœur de Bram que nous avons rencontré dans le premier tome. Elle rêve de rejoindre son frère en Australie mais son père en a décidé autrement. Il désire qu’elle se marie avec l’homme qu’elle déteste depuis son enfance : Rory Flynn. Et il est prêt à tout pour ça ! Il va même jusqu’à laisser le jeune homme agresser sa fille. Ismay, bien décidée à fuir, réussit, grâce à ses employeurs, à partir pour l’Australie. De l’autre côté, on suit Adam qui reçoit en legs des biens en Australie et qui doit décider s’il les accepte ou pas. Son père l’a toujours détesté et il sait qu’il lui réserve bien des surprises.

C’était un roman très sympa. J’ai pris plaisir à découvrir Ismay et à voir sa force malgré tout ce qu’elle subit. Rien n’est simple et pourtant, elle avance comme elle peut. Adam est un personnage que j’ai aussi apprécié, ainsi que sa tante Harriet. Et c’était un régal de découvrir leur histoire. J’ai été assez surprise, mais on lit aussi la suite des histoires d’autres personnages que j’ai adoré revoir.

Les romans d’Anna Jacobs sont toujours très intéressant et je les suis avec plaisir.

Avis : I’m always on the lookout for new thrillers or crime novels and when I came across this one, I was curious to learn more about what would happen.

Katie, a young woman who works at a shelter, is found dead in the river. Suicide or murder? The police are investigating to try to figure out what happened, but it’s not that simple. The women in this shelter are not in easy situations and this death could well turn their lives upside down.

This novel alternates between Katie’s past and the present of the investigation, as well on the the women of the shelter. An investigation to figure out what happened.

The idea is nice, it wasn’t what I expected. The pace is quite slow and the past was more interesting to follow than what was happening in the present for me.

So it was an enjoyable read, but I was expecting more, I’m still a bit mixed in the end.

Nora Kelly, Book 2

Synopsis: Following OLD BONES, the second “happily anticipated” new thriller in Preston & Child’s new series will once again feature Nora Kelly, archaeologist at the Santa Fe Archeological Institute, and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson investigating a new case that requires both their skills (Booklist).

After a shoot-out Swanson is involved in leaves a senior FBI agent gravely wounded, Corrie finds herself under investigation. Her supervisor assures her she’s not to blame and the black mark on her record will be cleared in short order. But Corrie finds herself shake her overwhelming guilt.

As a distraction, she takes on a new case involving a fifty-year-old, mummified corpse discovered in a hidden enclave at High Lonesome, a long-abandoned New Mexico ghost town. Quickly out of her depth, she quickly realizes she needs the help of her foe-turned-ally, archaeologist Nora Kelly, who soon uncovers a startling truth: the deceased had been poisoned, and died clutching a priceless artifact from outside High Lonesome.

Review: I enjoyed the first book in the series, and I have to say I had an even better time with this one.

Nora Kelly and Corrie Swanson find themselves on a brand new investigation. A looter has dug up a body that appears to have been left there decades ago. But the man also carries a golden cross that attracts a lot of attention. When the army gets involved, things get complicated.

I loved following this investigation mixing apaches, nuclear tests, abandoned mining towns and murders. How to resist? It was exciting to get into this story and I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next.

This second volume was a nice discovery and I am very curious to dive into volume 3 to find out what the authors have in store for us next.

Will Trent, Book 10

Synopsis: Atlanta, Georgia. Present day. A young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead. The police investigate but the trail goes cold. Until a chance assignment takes GBI investigator Will Trent to the state penitentiary, and to a prisoner who says he recognizes the MO. As Will digs into both crimes it becomes clear that he must solve the original case in order to reach the truth. Yet nearly a decade has passed—time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear. And now he needs medical examiner Sara Linton to help him hunt down a ruthless murderer. But when the past and present collide, everything Will values is at stake…

Review: I have read the volume that precedes this novel but no other novel in the series. But I must say that I was curious to discover the continuation of the adventures of our heroes. And I loved this new book!

While they are called to investigate a crime that took place in a prison, Sara, Faith and Will find themselves involved in an even more sordid story. Indeed, one of the residents proposes a deal to the police officers by providing them with information in exchange for reopening his case and proving that he was innocent, and did nothing of what he was imprisoned for. But this case is linked to an old case, and questions the competence of Sara’s dead husband, which will be far from easy.

This is a fairly substantial novel, but it keeps us on the edge of our seats until the end. Terrible events have happened in the past, and continue to happen, and it will be up to our heroes to understand and discover the truth. The story alternates between the present and the past, which allows us to know the different versions of the events. And the ending? I was really surprised!

A great book!
