Review: After a very original novel, I was delighted to discover a whole new story by James Patterson. And again I must say that I was surprised by the story that the author presents us here.

Colleen and Kathleen are two amazing teenagers, and both seem pregnant and virgins like Marie. But is this really the case? All specialists will look into their case. But besides that, our heroines so perfect in appearance will have to deal with a lot of problems. As if it were not difficult enough to explain to everyone that they are really virgins without people hating or insulting them. Between those who think them saints and others who think them evil, the two girls will see everything.

As for the first book I read, the author offers very short chapters, which allows diving easily into the story to read it very quickly. It was a very intriguing novel and as I said very different and I must say that I did not expect at all for this purpose. Another original discovery of the author!

Avis : Après un roman très original, j’étais ravie de découvrir une toute nouvelle histoire de James Patterson. Et encore une fois je dois dire que j’ai été surprise par l’histoire que l’auteur nous présente ici.

Colleen et Kathleen sont deux jeunes adolescentes extraordinaires, elles semblent toutes les deux enceintes et vierges comme Marie. Mais est-ce vraiment le cas ? Tous les spécialistes vont se pencher sur leur cas. Mais en plus de ça, nos héroïnes si parfaites en apparences vont devoir gérer un grand nombre de problèmes. Comme si ce n’était pas déjà assez difficile d’expliquer à tout le monde qu’elles sont réellement vierges sans que les gens les détestent ou les insultent. Entre ceux qui les pensent saintes et les autres qui les pensent diablesses, les deux jeunes filles vont en voir de toutes les couleurs.

Comme pour le premier livre que j’ai lu, l’auteur nous propose des chapitres très courts, ce qui permet de plonger facilement dans l’histoire et de le lire très rapidement. C’était un roman très intrigant et comme je le disais très différent et je dois dire que je ne m’attendais pas du tout à cette fin. Encore une découverte originale de l’auteur !

Review: I was very intrigued by this book when I discovered the synopsis but I did not pay attention that it was a second novel.

The novel takes place after a terrible incident: the explosion of a drive-in and the death of several people crushed with it. But then other problems come up, other things that may well be related to this story, although nobody understands what may have happened or even the identity of the culprit.

I found this novel really intriguing! The story is fascinating and keeps us in suspense. We try to understand who may have wanted to drop this drive-in and when other elements are added, we start to doubt all the characters. Many things and intrigues are mixed up throughout the novel and if it’s a little complicated to manage everything, but things connect little by little. However, I think it would have been necessary to get into the first volume to understand a little better what was happening and especially the stories of the characters. Yes, because there are a lot of protagonists and it was complicated to situate them all, which was not necessarily that simple for me.

Although I think it was important to read the first volume, I really had a great time with the story. I still have lots of questions and I am very curious to read more (as well as the first one) because many things have been initiated!

Promise Falls, Tome 2

Résumé : Plume acérée, personnages inquiétants et humour noir : après Fausses promesses, Linwood Barclay livre un nouvel opus riche en suspense pour conter les secrets et mystères d’une bourgade américaine pas si tranquille.

La ville de Promise Falls est sous le choc. L’écran du drive-in vient de s’effondrer en pleine séance. Bilan : quatre morts. Accident ? Acte malveillant ? L’impassible inspecteur Barry Duckworth enquête. Et un détail le perturbe : l’heure de l’explosion, 23 h 23 ; un chiffre qui évoque d’autres crimes non élucidés…

De son côté, le privé Cal Weaver travaille sur une sombre affaire. Une effraction a eu lieu au domicile d’Adam Chalmers, ponte local décédé au drive-in. Le vol en question : des vidéos érotiques que le défunt réalisait dans son sous-sol… Qui apparaissait sur ces films ? Y a-t-il un lien entre tous ces faits divers ?

Phénomènes étranges autour de la grande roue, agressions sur le campus, meurtres inexplicables. Un vent de panique souffle sur Promise Falls et l’heure est venue pour Cal Weaver et Barry Duckworth d’unir leurs forces.

Mais par où commencer dans cette ville où tous les psychopathes du coin semblent s’être donné rendez-vous ?

Avis :  J’étais très intriguée par ce roman quand j’ai découvert le résumé mais je n’avais pas fait attention qu’il faisait suite à une première histoire tout aussi importante pour la lecture.

Le roman prend place après lors d’un terrible incident : l’explosion d’un drive-in et la mort de plusieurs personnes écrasées. Mais voilà, d’autres problèmes surgissent, d’autres choses qui pourraient bien être liées à cette histoire bien que personne ne comprenne ce qui a bien pu se passer ou même l’identité du coupable.

J’ai trouvé ce roman vraiment intrigant ! L’histoire est fascinante et tient en haleine. On essaie de comprendre qui a bien pu vouloir faire tomber ce drive-in et quand d’autres éléments se rajoutent, on se met à douter de tous les personnages. Beaucoup de choses et d’intrigues se mélangent tout au long du roman et si c’est un peu compliqué de tout gérer, les choses se lient petit à petit. Cependant, je pense qu’il aurait été nécessaire de me lancer dans le premier tome pour comprendre un peu mieux ce qu’il se passait et surtout les histoires des personnages. Oui, parce que pour le coup il y a beaucoup de protagonistes et il faut arriver à les situer, ce qui n’est pas forcément aussi simple pour moi.

Même si je pense qu’il était important de lire le premier tome, j’ai vraiment passé un très bon moment avec l’histoire. Il me reste encore plein de questions et je suis très curieuse de lire la suite (tout autant que le premier) car de nombreuses choses ont été initiées !

But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers.

Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.

Review: I did not know this novel and yet, when I looked on goodreads for reviews I realized that it was really very well rated. I was surprised because I didn’t know about it but I was glad that the French release gave me the opportunity to discover the story.

Kacey is a girl to whom everything smiles. She moved to her father’s and her mother-in-law’s place recently and managed to adapt easily by making two very close friends. Yet when Jade and Bailey get their distance, she does not understand what she could have done and even less when, having decided to go to a party, none of her friends came to pick her up. But now, this evening is going to be a radical turning point in Kacey’s life, especially when it turns out that Bailey disappeared that night. Determined to understand what’s going on, our heroine goes in search of clues but she does not expect her name to be added to the list of suspects.

I really liked this novel. It is a different, surprising story and, it is true, one that shows us that we must not trust appearances. The author has also added chapters from Bailey’s point of view at different times (before her encounter with Kacey until the night of her disappearance) in addition to the present narrative. It was really fascinating to read that and I admit that I did not expect such a turn of events. I easily changed my mind on the culprit, telling myself several times that I knew in advance what had happened and yet I was always wrong.

I let myself be carried away by the story by making me fooled more than once and it is true that I found that the author had managed to do something very interesting.

Kacey vient d’emménager à Broken Falls avec son père, et c’est une nouvelle vie qui commence pour elle. Tout le monde ici est si gentil. Elle a même été accueillie à bras ouverts par de nouvelles amies, Bailey et Jade. Raison pour laquelle cela lui paraît si bizarre quand ces dernières commencent à se montrer distantes. Et lorsqu’elle n’est pas invitée à la plus grosse soirée de l’année, elle n’a pas vraiment l’impression qu’il s’agit d’un accident.

Mais Kacey ne pourra jamais en demander la raison, car après la fête Bailey disparaît. Soudain, Broken Falls ne semble plus si accueillant. Surtout quand tout le monde devient méfiant envers elle, la nouvelle.

Kacey est sur le point d’apprendre deux choses très importantes : parfois, les apparences peuvent se révéler trompeuses. Et parfois, quand on est la nouvelle, il ne faut faire confiance à personne.

Avis : Je ne connaissais pas ce roman et pourtant, quand j’ai regardé sur goodreads les avis je me suis rendu compte qu’il était vraiment très bien noté. J’étais surprise d’être passée à côté mais contente que la sortie Française me donne l’opportunité de me plonger dans l’histoire.

Kacey est une jeune fille à qui tout sourit. Elle s’est installée chez son père et sa belle-mère il y a peu et a réussi à s’adapter facilement avec ses deux amies très proches. Pourtant quand Jade et Bailey prennent leurs distances, elle ne comprend pas ce qu’elle a bien pu faire et encore moins quand, après avoir décidé d’aller à une soirée, aucune de ses amies ne vient la chercher. Mais voilà, cette soirée va être un tournant radical dans la vie de Kacey, notamment quand il se trouve que c’est ce soir-là que Bailey disparait. Déterminée à comprendre ce qu’il se passe, notre héroïne part à la recherche d’indices mais elle ne s’attend pas à ce que son nom soit aussi ajouté à la liste des suspects.

J’ai beaucoup aimé ce roman. C’est une histoire différente, surprenante et, c’est vrai, une qui nous montre qu’il ne faut pas se fier aux apparences. L’auteure a aussi rajouté en plus de la narration présente des chapitres du point de vue de Bailey à différentes périodes et on découvre son point de vue avant sa rencontre avec Kacey jusqu’à la nuit de sa disparition. C’était vraiment fascinant à voir et j’avoue que je ne m’attendais pas à de tels retournements de situations. J’ai facilement changé de coupable, en me disant plusieurs fois que je savais à l’avance, que je savais ce qu’il s’était passé et pourtant je me suis trompée à plusieurs reprises.

Je me suis laissée portée par l’histoire en me faisant duper plus d’une fois et c’est vrai que j’ai trouvé que l’auteure avait réussi à faire quelque chose de très intéressant.

Martin had sworn himself never to set foot on a ship again, but he returns to the ship and finds out that several weeks ago a girl gone missing on the Sultan reappeared – carrying his son’s teddy bear …

Review: This novel is as breathtaking as it is horrible. I admit that I was really impressed. It’s been a long time since I was so surprised by a thriller and I must say that for that, Sebastian Fitzek is really talented. We do not expect it, we are surprised until the last pages. When we think that we finally managed to understand what happened, that we have proofs, we realize that there are some pages left and that these few pages can still completely change the situation. So yes, Sebastian Fitzek manipulated me throughout the story as I tried to figure out where the story was going to take me and he blew me away with his ideas.

Of course, now you wonder why the story is horrible, is not it? It’s the topics that are discussed that are … fiou … horrific. Yes, really terrible, unhealthy, difficult and yes, horrible. One can only feel the horror after reading the words of the author. I can not really tell you what it is because it is also what the novel makes us discover, the horror we do not pronounce, the horror we do not envision, the hidden follies and especially the things we’re trying not to understand or hear. Things that we can not even believe possible.

You will not doubt either the things that can happen on a cruise ship, the money, the secrets that can be involved and especially of all that there can be behind the disappearance of a person or a suicide. I admit that I had never thought about that, suicides during cruises and it’s pretty appalling.

This novel really left me on the ass and if you are not afraid to discover the horrible things that a human can do to another for money, by madness, or worse, then this book is for you!
