Review: I saw a very nice review of this novel a few years ago and it is true that I kept it in mind until now … The problem? Because of course there is one, it is to find it. The author being Australian, it is quite difficult to obtain a copy of her book. Besides, I find myself once again with the same concern to read the second volume that I am impatient to have!

We discover Erica, a banal young woman who after discovering her husband cheating on her, ruining and deceiving her, decides to start over. But when she comes home one night to find a man dying outside her door, Erica does not expect her life to change that much. As he seems to know her, our heroine does not hesitate to help him without warning the police when it seems that something terrible happened : one the main ingredient to create bombs had been lost and everyone is very worried about the possible consequences of all this. She therefore finds herself embarked in a story that goes beyond her and that will place her in terrible situations.

Forced to work with Jack, the man she saved, Erica is going to be hired in “The Team” to try to thwart the plans of the terrorists. It is very difficult to tell you more or to explain not to reveal too much in the face of the complexity of the story and the characters but I can tell you that I had a great time with this first novel. We easily connect to Erica by fully understanding her attractiveness, naivety and mistrust and yet, whatever one does to her, she always gets empathy with those who hurt her and it starts with her husband. And what about Jack? We can only fall under his charm and despite what he presents to others, it is a character much more complex than we might think. It was very interesting to learn to discover him and to know some bits and pieces of his past. We hope throughout the book that a nice relation between the two characters would appear but nothing will be really simple especially when we take into account their wounds.

The author presents us with a story full of action, plots and colorful characters, and I confess that I had a hard time putting the book down before finishing it. I was really looking forward to know the end of the story and what the next catastrophe would be. And I can tell you that there will be several!

To conclude, it was a very nice discovery and I had a great time with the characters. The end surprised me a bit, but I’m curious to read more.

C’est en tout cas le cas, jusqu’à ce qu’elle en trouve un, saignant à mort, dans son jardin de Melbourne un vendredi soir orageux. Jack Jones est un homme dont les blessures émotionnelles sont plus mortelles que la balle dans son épaule. Sous ses ordres, il recrute Erica dans son équipe secrète de vigilantes, et Erica suspecte que son monde sûr et prévisible se trouve sur le point d’être renversé. Et elle a absolument raison.

Avis : J’avais vu un très bel avis de ce roman il y a quelques années et c’est vrai que je l’ai gardé en tête jusque-là… Le souci ? Parce que bien sûr il y en a un, c’est de le trouver. L’auteure étant australienne, il est assez difficile de se le procurer. D’ailleurs je me retrouve une fois de plus avec le même souci pour lire le second tome que je suis impatiente d’avoir !

Nous découvrons ainsi Erica, une jeune femme banale qui après s’être faite avoir par son mari qui l’a ruinée et trompée, décide de faire page blanche. Mais quand elle rentre un soir chez elle pour découvrir un homme mourant devant sa porte, Erica ne s’attend pas à ce que sa vie change du tout au tout. Comme il semble la connaître, notre héroïne n’hésite pas à l’aider sans avertir la police alors qu’il semble qu’un vol terrible ait été effectué. Ingrédient principal pour l’élaboration de bombes, tout le monde est très inquiet des possibles conséquences de tout cela. Elle se retrouve embarquée dans une histoire qui la dépasse et qui va la placer dans de terribles situations.

Forcée de travailler avec Jack, l’homme qu’elle a sauvé, Erica va être embauchée dans « The Team » pour essayer de contrecarrer les plans des terroristes. C’est très difficile de vous en dire plus ou d’expliquer pour ne pas en révéler trop au face à de la complexité de l’histoire et des personnages mais je peux vous dire que j’ai passé un excellent moment avec ce premier roman. On s’attache facilement à Erica en comprenant parfaitement son attrait, sa naïveté et sa méfiance et pourtant, quoi qu’on lui fasse, elle arrive toujours à avoir de l’empathie envers ceux qui l’ont blessée et cela commence par son mari. Et que dire de Jack ? On ne peut que tomber sous son charme et malgré ce qu’il présente aux autres, c’est un personnage bien plus complexe qu’on ne pourrait le penser. C’était très intéressant d’apprendre à le découvrir et de connaitre quelques bribes de son passé. On espère tout au long du livre une jolie relation entre les deux personnages mais rien ne sera vraiment simple notamment quand on prend en compte leurs blessures.

L’auteure nous présente une histoire pleine d’action, de complots et de personnages hauts en couleurs et j’avoue que j’ai eu du mal à poser le livre avant de l’avoir fini. J’étais vraiment impatiente de connaitre le fin mot de l’histoire et de savoir quel serait la prochaine catastrophe. Et je peux vous dire qu’il y en aura plusieurs !

Pour conclure, c’était une très jolie découverte et j’ai passé un très bon moment avec les personnages. La fin m’a un peu surprise mais je suis curieuse de pouvoir en lire plus à présent.
