Synopsis: Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble;it has been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems beside the point now.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. Review: After reading Fangirl, I was curious to try another writing from the author. Landline is a novel that I have seen a lot of time since its release in the US and it is true that the very good reviews that I had the opportunity to discover had intrigued me a lot.

Georgie loves her husband, Neal, with all her heart and they both have two formidable little girls. Yet nothing is perfect and the work of the young woman always takes precedence over everything else. Christmas is coming and our family intended to go to Omaha to celebrate it all together but an important business meeting is added and Georgie can not go, stuck at home for the holidays. Yet Neal does not see it that well, and furious, he decides to go with the girls as intended, leaving her alone behind. But as life goes for Georgia, sad to be away from her family, everyone seems to think that Neal has left her for good … Is this the case? What is sure is that she can not contact him by phone and she only manages to speak to her daughters or her stepmother. But something amazing will happen, while staying with her mother and trying to contact her husband on an old phone of her youth, she manages to join Neal of the past, 15 years before. Is this a sign of destiny to make him understand that he will never happen to be happy with her? To make him understand that he should not marry her? But while she can not speak to her husband, the old Neal then remains present for her.

I really had a good time with this book. The history between Neal and Georgie really touched me. We understand the fear of the young woman and we understand her questions throughout the chapters. But we also understand Neal and his desire to have more, to be for once prominent in her life. The author will allow us to discover the history of our protagonists throughout the chapters, showing us some flash-back of the past. It was interesting and touching to see them grow together, to see the trials, joys and pains they went through to be together. By cons, it is true that sometimes I was a little lost between the past and the present as the author does not really separate everything. It’s a shame because it is a little difficult to locate the events from all that is happening. But that is a detail because everything is still well done and I was touched and sad several times with the story. Georgia will understand, realize that something is wrong and that she is mainly the cause. I admit that I was a little disappointed that even though she realized that she could not work because of her emotional state, and that she was constantly thinking about her husband, she does not think a single second of dropping everything to go and find him. She pities rather on her life and tries to understand what is happening.

In all cases it is a very pretty story I struggled to put down and I had a great time with this new novel.

Georgie est au trente-sixième dessous : cela faisait des années que son mariage battait de l’aile, mais cette fois, c’est la fin. Alors que son mari est parti passer Noël avec ses enfants dans le Nebraska, elle reste seule à Los Angeles, car elle a pris la fâcheuse habitude de faire passer sa carrière avant sa famille. C’est alors qu’elle tombe sur un vieux téléphone jaune à cadran rotatif. Contre toute attente, cette antiquité va lui permettre de faire un bond de quinze ans en arrière et de communiquer avec Neal dans le passé. N’est-ce pas l’occasion rêvée pour résoudre leurs désaccords et retomber amoureux comme au premier jour ?

Avis : Après avoir lu Fangirl, j’étais curieuse de pouvoir tenter un autre écrit de l’auteure. A un Fil est un roman que j’ai beaucoup vu passer à sa sortie aux US et c’est vrai que les très bons avis que j’ai eu l’occasion de découvrir m’ont assez intrigué.

Georgie aime son mari, Neal, de tout son cœur et ils ont tous les deux, deux petites filles formidables. Pourtant rien n’est parfait non plus et le travail de la jeune femme se retrouve toujours entre eux, prenant le pas sur tout le reste. Noël approche et notre petite famille devait partir à Omaha pour fêter le tout ensemble mais une réunion de travail importante vient se rajouter et Georgie ne peut plus partir, coincée chez elle pour les fêtes. Pourtant Neal ne le voit pas ainsi, et furieux, il décide de partir avec les filles en la laissant seule derrière. Mais alors que la vie continue pour Georgie, triste d’être loin de sa famille, tout le monde semble penser que Neal l’a quitté pour de bon… Est-ce le cas ? Ce qui est sûr, c’est qu’elle n’arrive pas à le joindre par téléphone et elle ne parvient qu’à tomber sur ses filles ou sa belle-mère. Pourtant quelque chose d’incroyable va arriver, en restant chez sa mère et en essayant de contacter son mari sur un vieux téléphone de sa jeunesse, elle parvient à joindre le Neal du passé, 15 ans auparavant. Est-ce un signe du destin pour lui faire comprendre qu’il n’arrivera jamais à être heureux avec elle ? A lui faire comprendre qu’il ne doit pas l’épouser ? Mais alors qu’elle n’arrive pas à parler à son mari, ce Neal-là reste présent pour elle.

J’ai vraiment passé un bon moment avec ce livre. L’histoire entre Neal et Georgie m’a beaucoup touché. On comprend la peur de la jeune femme et on comprend ses questions tout au long des chapitres. Mais on comprend aussi Neal et son désir d’en avoir plus, d’être pour une fois au premier plan dans sa vie. L’auteure nous permettra de découvrir l’histoire de nos protagonistes tout au long des chapitres, nous montrant quelques flashs back du passé. C’était intéressant et touchant de les voir évoluer ensemble, de voir les épreuves, les joies et les peines qu’ils ont traversé pour être ensemble. Par contre c’est vrai que j’étais parfois un peu perdue entre le passé et le présent comme l’auteure ne sépare pas vraiment les moments. C’est un peu dommage parce qu’il est un peu difficile de se repérer entre tout ce qu’il se passe. Mais ce n’est qu’un détail car le tout est quand même bien fait et j’ai été touchée et triste plusieurs fois par ce qu’il se passait. Georgie va comprendre, réaliser que quelque chose ne va pas et qu’elle en est principalement la cause. J’avoue que j’ai été un peu déçue de voir que même si elle réalisait qu’elle n’arrivait pas à travailler avec les événements, et qu’elle ne pensait qu’à son mari, pas une seule seconde elle n’a pensé à tout laissé tomber pour aller le retrouver. Elle s’apitoie plutôt sur sa vie, et essaie de comprendre ce qu’il se passe.

Dans tous les cas c’est une très jolie histoire que j’ai eu du mal à reposer et j’ai passé un très bon moment avec ce nouveau roman.

Review: Everyone talks about this book since its release and it is true that I was curious to see by myself how the story would be. I confess by cons that I’m not a fan of fanfiction… I do not question the work of those who are doing that, because I’m sure this is something huge but it is true that doesn’t ring a bell for me. Yet I also found that it was really interesting to see what was behind that word, to see all the time that a person can devote to it and to realize that for some it was more than just a hobby.

We discover Cath, a young woman who loves the Simon Snow series and she takes a great pleasure in writing a fanfiction about the adventures of her favorite hero. This passion also occupies an important place in her life, and her stories are read by thousands of people. Yet in everyday life, her existence is far from simple. Away from home and from her father to study in college, she is abandoned by her twin sister who wants to try new things. Sharing a room with another girl she does not know anything about and who does not seem like her, her studies are solitary. Fortunately for her, her writing evenings are there to keep her occupied. But everything will change with the arrival of Nick and Levi, two men who unknowingly will completely change her life. Between the first one who launches her in a phase of writing different from anything she has done so far and the other who will be there for her when she needs it, her life will become different. She had only her sister until now, and she will become closer to the one person she thought she would avoid: her roommate Reagan who could finally well become more than a friend to her. And while continuing to write her stories, Cath will have to understand what she wants to achieve in her life, and her choices will always have a big impact. Her studies, her personal life, her family, everything will change and she will have to face many hardships.

I loved the novel, the author really has a very interesting writing style to discover. I took a great pleasure in following Cath in her daily life, whether in moments of happiness or sorrow. This is a character that will evolve a lot over of the novel, she will open to the world and will try to understand her mistakes and try to accept the truth. I also enjoyed seeing Levi, the man who seems to find very important the fact of helping others, and even if it is true that I agree with Cath on the fact that it is sometimes a little too much, I think we can only love him. This is a really lovely character even if it is true that it is difficult to really understand his relationship with Reagan. This woman is really interesting as well, despite her cold appearance, we discover that there is more in this woman. And whatever happens, she will also be there to help Cath to open up to people and to advance in her life. The only thing that bothered me a bit is that everything about the fanfiction as I wasn’t really interested in them and it’s true that I jumped all these parts. This is not a big problem, and I do not think it’s really important to the story because it did not stop the fact that I loved the novel!

This novel is a nice surprise and I hope to soon read something else from the author.

Sauf qu’elle ne se contente pas d’endosser le costume de son héros favoris à chaque avant-première, elle va jusqu’à écrire la suite des aventures du jeune mage, et publie ses histoires sur un site ou sa fanfiction est suivie par des milliers de lecteurs.

Tout bascule le jour où Wren, sa sœur jumelle, qui partage sa passion depuis toujours, décide de faire chambre à part sur le campus universitaire. Alors que Wren s’apprête à profiter dignement des joies de la vie étudiante, Cath est soudain projetée dans un univers hostile où elle va devoir se confronter à des gens bien réels : son père, publicitaire qui frise le surmenage, une prof de littérature qui méprise la fanfic, une coloc un peu revêche et un petit ami envahissant…

Avis : Tout le monde parle de ce livre depuis sa sortie et c’est vrai que j’étais curieuse de découvrir par moi-même ce que donnait l’histoire. Je l’avoue par contre je ne suis pas une fan de fanfictions…  Je ne remets pas en doute le travail des personnes qui en font, car je me doute que c’est quelque chose d’énorme mais c’est vrai que je n’accroche pas vraiment. Pourtant j’ai trouvé aussi vraiment intéressant de voir ce qu’il y avait derrière ce mot, de voir tout le temps que l’on peut y consacrer et me rendre compte que pour certains c’était bien plus qu’un simple hobby.

Cette passion prend d’ailleurs une grande place dans sa vie, et ses histoires sont lues par des milliers de personnes. Pourtant dans la vie de tous les jours, son existence est loin d’être simple. Partie loin de chez elle et de son père pour étudier à la fac, elle est aussi abandonnée par sa sœur jumelle qui a envie de tenter de nouvelles expériences. En colocation avec une autre fille qu’elle ne connait pas et qui semble ne pas l’aimer, ses études sont bien solitaires. Heureusement pour elle, ses soirées d’écriture sont là pour lui tenir compagnie. Mais tout va changer avec l’arrivée de Nick et de Levi, deux hommes qui sans le savoir vont complètement bouleverser sa vie. Entre le premier qui la lancera dans une phase d’écriture différente de tout ce qu’elle a fait jusque-là et l’autre qui sera là pour elle quand elle en aura besoin, son existence va changer. Elle qui ne comptait que sur sa sœur, se verra se rapprocher de la seule personne qu’elle pensait éviter, sa camarade de chambre Reagan qui pourrait bien devenir bien plus qu’une amie pour elle. Et tout en continuant à écrire ses histoires, Cath va devoir comprendre ce qu’elle veut réaliser dans sa vie, et ses choix auront toujours un gros impact. Ses études, sa vie personnelle, sa famille, tout va changer du tout au tout et elle devra faire face à de nombreuses épreuves.

J’ai beaucoup aimé le roman, l’auteure a vraiment une plume très intéressante à découvrir. J’ai pris énormément de plaisir à suivre Cath dans sa vie de tous les jours, que ce soit dans ses moments de bonheur ou de peine. C’est un personnage qui va beaucoup évoluer au cours du roman, elle va s’ouvrir au monde, comprendre ses erreurs et essayer d’accepter la vérité. J’ai aussi adoré découvrir Levi, cet homme qui semble trouver très important le fait d’aider les autres, et même si c’est vrai que je suis d’accord avec Cath sur le fait que c’est parfois un peu trop, je pense qu’on ne peut que l’aimer. C’est un personnage vraiment adorable même si c’est vrai que c’est difficile de comprendre réellement sa relation avec Reagan. Cette femme est aussi vraiment intéressante à découvrir, malgré son avenant assez froid, on découvre qu’il y a bien plus chez cette femme. Et quoi qu’il se passe, elle sera là aussi pour aider Cath à s’ouvrir aux gens et avancer dans sa vie. La seule chose qui m’a un peu gêné c’est tout ce qui concerne les morceaux de fanfictions que je n’ai pas réussi à vraiment apprécier et c’est vrai que j’ai sauté toutes les parties de ce genre. Ce n’est pas gênant non, et je ne pense pas que ça soit vraiment important pour l’histoire car cela pas n’a pas empêché le fait que j’ai adoré le roman !

Ce roman est donc une jolie surprise que je suis contente d’avoir découverte et j’espère pouvoir lire bientôt autre chose de l’auteure.
