Elemental, Book 2
Synopsis: It was a rough start to the school year for Shayna and her friends, Jodi and Steven, but thankfully summer break is near. Trying to sort out her feelings for the new guy in town, Shayna agrees to let Jensen join her on a group date with her friends. While out they end up at a local coffee house where their classmate, social outcast Jeremy McCormick, is humiliated by his baseball star brother. When Jeremy runs away from the jeering crowd, Shayna and Jodi hear the unmistakable sound of a thousand wings chasing after him, but no one else seems to hear them. These are not like any air elementals that Shayna or Jodi have ever encountered before and they fear Jeremy has gotten himself tangled up in something too dangerous for him to handle. But when Shayna tries to help Jeremy to control his magical abilities she realizes it might be the biggest mistake of her life.
Review: I was quite curious to find our four heros and to discover what had happened to them since the end with Ian in the first book. So it’s with a real pleasure that we can see Jodi, Shayna and Steven who will live a new adventure. And of course they’re helped by Jensen but it’s still difficult for him to really accept this new world where he evolves now.
The author’s writing style is more accomplished in this second volume, we can also feel it with the story which is more complex than in the first novel. However, it’s true that sometimes I didn’t get into some parts of the novel near the end.
About the story, I can tell it was quite simple but well conceived. This time, the author focuses on a new element like we can see with the title : Air. Two characters are more present, Jodi whose element lives in her and of course like always Shayna whose nothing could happen without her. However, this time we assist to a set black of the story for Steven and Jensen. But it was an interesting idea, it allows us to learn more about our two young heroines. So we evolve in a new world full of fairies and we can meet two very interesting ones who will appear a few times all along the book. I really like Tigan. He is mysterious, speak with enigmas but is always here when Shayna needs it. It was also curious to see the evolution of Jensen since the first volume, he opens himself little by little to this new life despite he’s still afraid about it. For Shayna, he has to change, he has to accept the impossible, to live with her friends, everything she wants to be at her side.
I’ve always really like books about fairies, so it was interesting to me to see the author’s vision about this subject. As far as that goes, we can learn more about a new species, but I’ll not tell too much about them. They were very intriguing and I was happy to learn more about them.

I like fae books too! I would still need to read the first, but it sounds like this wasn’t too bad of a book. Sounds like a cute YA.

That’s what I like most about faerie books too! To see how different authors approach writing them so there are so many possibilities. I still haven’t read the first book in this series, so I’m off to look it up on goodreads.
Thanks!
