Mythos Academy, Book 6

Synopsis: I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.

Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.

Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

Review: I enjoyed each of the novels that Jennifer Estep has shown us over the years. I knew the end was coming, and I wondered each time if this is the case. However, for once I did not read the synopsis, and I was quite surprised when I realized that this volume ended the series. I must say that the ends are always a bit tricky for me and I was a little anxious to see how everything would end and what feeling I would have.

We thus find our little Gwen, who finally comes to have a little quiet time but she is nevertheless confident that everything will be messed up from one moment or another. And I must say that she was quite right but maybe not the way she thought about. It turns out that Linus is repatriating artifacts recovered during a previous novel and he needs the girl to tell him what the object the Reapers absolutely want to recover. And when she tries to discover the reason for their insistence, her grandmother is kidnapped and Gwen will have to decide if she agrees to follow the rules or rather transgress them. An act that will isolate her from all her friends and yet the girl has a nature that is becoming more and more present and I loved to see her face the persons that everyone avoids.

It was a very good book and the end is really perfect. I was curious to see how the author would introduce us to the ultimate battle with Loki, because it is true that this is something we expected from the beginning of the series. Then I was also eager to see how our dear Gwen would be able to beat this god of great power (in fact she wonders the same). And it is true that I was quite surprised, I did not expect it but it was well found and some past conversations are understood here. Gwen will have to make many choices in this novel and many are difficult to make and yet she remains determined to do what she has decided whatever happens, especially when her family is in danger. I had not seen this aspect of her character and it is at this moment that I realized that she had changed a lot in the stories. Furthermore it is with great pleasure that we find all the characters we know! Yes even Rory, her aunt and the griffins!

In conclusion I must say that this is a very good end, I do not think I could imagine a better one and it is with pleasure that I abandon the characters now. And who knows maybe the author will go back the story one day because I would love to follow Rory and see what she will eventually become too. I had a great time and I think I need now to turn to the novels of her other series that await me.

I’m still finishing Elemental Assassin, I’ll probably get to this once I’m done with that. And that would be a treat because now that the series is done, I don’t have to wait for months on end for the next book to come out. Binge-fest!

I agree it’s always the best thing to do, I need to read the 2sd in her other series. I’m so behind!

I think I’ve read the first four books in this series. Now that they’re all out, I’m definitely going to have to finish them. Great review, Melliane!

Everyone seems to be all over this one this week 🙂

I have heard fantastic things abotu this author and serues. I actually have books 1-3 at home. So this is the final book? If so it sounds like she ended it very well. Nothing worse than a crappy ending to a good series!

I am so happy this series wrapped up nicely for you, it seems to be the overall consensuses. This is a series I would like to try one day. Wonderful review!

I agree with you. I am usually nervous about ending books, but this one was good. I also enjoyed the ending but would love to revisit characters from the book. 🙂

I have no idea why I stopped reading this series. I seem to remember enjoying what I’ve read so far. Nowadays, I’m traumatized with how series enders have managed to do to some beloved series so I can relate to your anxiety.

    Glad it ended well. 🙂
