Coveted, Book 3

Synopsis: For the past five years, Natalya Stravinsky has dreamed of two things: to rejoin the South Toms River werewolf pack and to be reunited with Thorn Grantham. Fate may have brought the pack back into her life, but unless she journeys to Russia to save Thorn, the love she’s found may be lost again. For a stubborn werewolf like Natalya, no distance is too far, no magic spell too complex to master, because one way or another she will find a way to have everything she has ever wanted.

Review: I loved the first and second book and it’s true that I expected many things for this novel. I was a little anxious while talking with a friend as she told me that there were some points that disturbed her, and as our reviews are often the same, I wondered what I would think about it. But I’ll tell you more about that later.

We thus find our dear Nat, now married to Thorn. However, something still hangs over their heads, including the curse on her husband that could kill him at one time or another. So when a character in her past comes back on stage and she learns that she might have a solution to save Thorn, Nat does not hesitate a second and leaves for Russia. But while a war rages, it seems that our heroine is in the middle of this whole story, and she will have to be very careful with people she trusts. However, she will be involved in something that is completely beyond her, and Nat will be forced to face her greatest fears to successfully save the man she loves and maybe even more than that.

I always take great pleasure in following Nat to discover how she will act. But unlike in the other volumes, I found she had acted here fairly mindless, like a total different person and it is true that I found it a shame as it was not something I particularly understand… Well, I understand her desire to save her soul mate by all means but I think that she could have achieved this in an entirely different way. Yet I enjoyed the track in this new quest and Shawntelle Madison has this time very many original ideas for her heroine I must say. Great things are happening here and the reader is quickly dragged into a wild ride! Nat is also changing dramatically here, and it was nice to see the person she was becoming after all these events. Yet it is true that I might have liked that everything does not happen as quickly so we could have the time to understand everything. But you must know that it does not change the fact that I had a great time with the novel and I’m really curious to read more writings by Shawntelle Madison.

You have to understand, despite the pace, it was a good new third volume and I always look forward to read more. But I hope we’ll see very quickly the secondary characters we love as they were not present here which was quite sad.

I’m happy that, despite the pace, you found it good enough to want to keep reading the series. It may not have worked as well as the first two instalments, but you got me curious and I’ll probably end up checking the first book.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Melliane!

Loving the cover. A good friend of mine loves this series of books, I’ll have to send her a link to your review.

yeah, isn’t it a big problem? lol it’s terrible!

I hate it when a character changes so much you almost don’t even recognize them and the whole series doesn’t have the same feel to it.

It does sound like this was still a good read just maybe not as good as the first two.

    1. Melliane

yes it was really strange, she really isn’t the same.

I had similar problems when I read Twilight–I couldn’t relate to the choices the heroine made because I didn’t feel they were well motivated. The reader needs to understand why someone is doing something. If the author can pull the motivation off, he/she can make characters do anything.

    1. Melliane

yes mainly when you knew how she was before, it’s difficult when the person changes that much.

Hm I don’t remember seeing this one. I’ll have to jump over and check out book one.

      book 1 was so good!

Big changes in main characters – especially when they were smart, capable and competent before and are now suddenly doing mindless things – really get me down. I guess it would have to depend on why the change happened…if it makes sense in context with the story, I’m more likely to be okay with it. But if it was done simply to force through a plot element or push the story along, I’d be much less tolerant.

    1. Melliane

we don’t know it’s like it’s just another character. it’s strange.

Well they all can’t be great, but I think I may have to read this series back to back. Might lessen the disappointment. Still you enjoyed it enough so that is good. Great review.

  12. Livia @ Butterfly-o-Meter Books

Yeah, I’ve read opinions that said something along the lines of Nat acting kind of out of character in this one. It’s good it was still a good read though 🙂 And wow, the awesomeness of that cover, right? 😀

  13. LilyElement

Aww I hate when the character acts completely different from the other books in the series. Makes me think what did I miss?! 🙂

  14. Carmel @ Rabid Reads

This was unfortunately, a 3 star read for me too. Like you, I barely recognized Nat, missed the secondary characters, and found that Madison rushed this series finale. Great review, as usual! 🙂

  15. Christy

As long as you’re still enjoying the series and want to continue, I say it was a victory. lol. I’ll have to check out the first book.

I have digitals of this series, I hope to start it soon. Sounds like this one had some things that didn’t grab you as much as previously. Braine likes this series too. I normally like what she likes and vice versa. Nice honest review 😀

  17. Kirsty-Marie

Yeah ,you can understand her wanting to do anything to save her soul-mate, but obviously something she handled the wrong way, which is a shame. But, at least you still had a fun time with it, even if there were a few issues! 🙂

Nice review Melliane, thank you. One day I will read these books …
