Coveted, Book 3

Synopsis: For the past five years, Natalya Stravinsky has dreamed of two things: to rejoin the South Toms River werewolf pack and to be reunited with Thorn Grantham. Fate may have brought the pack back into her life, but unless she journeys to Russia to save Thorn, the love she’s found may be lost again. For a stubborn werewolf like Natalya, no distance is too far, no magic spell too complex to master, because one way or another she will find a way to have everything she has ever wanted.

Review: I loved the first and second book and it’s true that I expected many things for this novel. I was a little anxious while talking with a friend as she told me that there were some points that disturbed her, and as our reviews are often the same, I wondered what I would think about it. But I’ll tell you more about that later.

We thus find our dear Nat, now married to Thorn. However, something still hangs over their heads, including the curse on her husband that could kill him at one time or another. So when a character in her past comes back on stage and she learns that she might have a solution to save Thorn, Nat does not hesitate a second and leaves for Russia. But while a war rages, it seems that our heroine is in the middle of this whole story, and she will have to be very careful with people she trusts. However, she will be involved in something that is completely beyond her, and Nat will be forced to face her greatest fears to successfully save the man she loves and maybe even more than that.

I always take great pleasure in following Nat to discover how she will act. But unlike in the other volumes, I found she had acted here fairly mindless, like a total different person and it is true that I found it a shame as it was not something I particularly understand… Well, I understand her desire to save her soul mate by all means but I think that she could have achieved this in an entirely different way. Yet I enjoyed the track in this new quest and Shawntelle Madison has this time very many original ideas for her heroine I must say. Great things are happening here and the reader is quickly dragged into a wild ride! Nat is also changing dramatically here, and it was nice to see the person she was becoming after all these events. Yet it is true that I might have liked that everything does not happen as quickly so we could have the time to understand everything. But you must know that it does not change the fact that I had a great time with the novel and I’m really curious to read more writings by Shawntelle Madison.

You have to understand, despite the pace, it was a good new third volume and I always look forward to read more. But I hope we’ll see very quickly the secondary characters we love as they were not present here which was quite sad.

Résumé (traduction personnelle) : Durant les cinq dernières années, Natalya Stravinsky a rêvé de deux choses : rejoindre la meute de loups-garous de South Toms River et être auprès de Thorn Grantham. Le destin a peut-être ramené la meute dans sa vie, mais à moins qu’elle ne parte pour la Russie pour sauver Thorn, l’amour qu’elle a retrouvé pourrait être perdu à nouveau. Avis : J’avais adoré le premier et le deuxième tome et c’est vrai que j’attendais ce roman avec impatience. J’étais un peu anxieuse quand en parlant avec une amie elle m’a dit qu’il y avait quelques points qui l’avaient dérangé, et comme nos avis se retrouvent souvent, je me demandais ce que j’allais penser. Mais je vous en dirais plus un peu plus tard.

On retrouve donc notre chère Nat, maintenant mariée à Thorn. Cependant, quelque chose plane toujours au-dessus de leurs têtes, notamment la malédiction qui pèse sur son mari et qui pourrait le tuer à un moment ou un autre. Aussi quand un personnage de son passé revient en scène et qu’elle apprend qu’elle aurait peut-être une solution pour sauver Thorn, Nat n’hésite pas une seconde et part pour la Russie. Mais alors qu’une guerre fait rage, il semble que notre héroïne se retrouve au milieu de toute cette histoire, et il faudra qu’elle fasse très attention aux personnes à qui elle fait confiance. Cependant, elle se retrouvera dans quelque chose qui la dépasse complètement, et Nat sera obligée de faire face à ses plus grandes craintes pour réussir à sauver l’homme qu’elle aime et peut-être même plus que ça.

Je prends toujours un grand plaisir à suivre Nat et découvrir comment elle va agir. Mais à l’inverse des autres tomes, j’ai trouvé qu’elle avait agi ici de façon assez irréfléchie et c’est vrai que j’ai trouvé ça un peu dommage comme ce n’était pas quelque chose que je comprenais particulièrement… Je comprends son envie de sauver son âme sœur par tous les moyens mais je pense qu’elle aurait pu atteindre cet objectif d’une tout autre façon. Pourtant j’ai beaucoup apprécié la suivre dans cette nouvelle quête et Shawntelle Madison a eu cette fois ci de nombreuses idées très originales pour son héroïne je dois dire. De grandes choses se passent ici et le lecteur est très vite entrainé dans une course folle ! Nat évolue d’ailleurs énormément ici, et c’était agréable de voir la personne qu’elle était en train de devenir après tous ces événements. Pourtant c’est vrai que j’aurais peut-être aimé que tout ne se passe pas aussi vite et que l’on ait le temps de bien tout comprendre, car les choses se succèdent vraiment très vite. Mais sachez que cela ne change pas le fait que j’ai passé un très bon moment avec le roman et je suis vraiment curieuse de pouvoir lire plus d’écrits de Shawntelle Madison.

Vous avez pu le comprendre, malgré le rythme c’était un nouveau bon troisième tome et j’attends toujours avec impatience d’en lire plus. J’espère cependant que nous reverrons très vite les personnages secondaires qu’on adore et qui n’étaient pas présents ici.

Warlock Repo Man Chronicles, Book 1

Synopsis: Return to the Coveted universe with a new series featuring witches and warlocks! Rob has money problems of his own, thanks to the bank determined to foreclose on his elderly aunt and uncle’s home. Repossessing magic wands and cursed pianos from disgruntled warlocks isn’t the best pay, but the Navy SEAL works well as a repo man to pay off his family’s debts. Rob’s repossession jobs catch up with him when a powerful warlock seeks to end his life for his constant meddling, drawing Tessa in the middle.

Review: I really enjoyed the Coveted series, and when I saw that Shawntelle was releasing a new novel, I was impatient to get into it. In addition, the mention of the universe of the first series made me really curious. But this time, no more werewolves but witches and warlocks and two in particular, Rob and Tessa.

We thus discover Tessa, a young woman who runs an agency to help supernatural beings finding love. But whatever everyone thinks, it’s a lot harder than it seems, especially when some clients do not remain in our dimension but in others. For them, no way for a classical communication, but the young woman has a scroll that allows her to contact them. However, when after an appointment, her car is repossessed by a warlock and stored in limbo because of unpaid bills, the young woman finds herself upset. Yes indeed, the scroll was in her car and if she doesn’t retrieve it, she will lose her job. It is therefore imperative that she gets it fast! However, there is only one way to do it and she’ll have to team up with Rob, this man who doesn’t have a respected work. But so you know, he can not reach limbo until he needs to repossess objects. Tessa is going to follow him throughout his days hoping to finally get her things, but everything is much more complicated than expected. Indeed, they may well attract the attention of unsavory people, unhappy to see their belongings collected. But more than that, this woman, who despite her help for love, never had any luck herself and her meeting with Rob could change everything… if he does not break her heart before anything begins.

I confess that, unlike for the other novels by the author, it was a little more difficult for me to get into the story and to hang on the characters and it took me several chapters for the magic to happen. Yet it was quite interesting to see the ideas put forward here in relation to the debts of people. It was something really original and I loved to know how everything was working exactly. Tessa is really determined to recover what she lost despite the dangers, but I must say that despite appearances her life is far from easy and it’s always more complicated. I also loved the interaction she has with Rob but I confess I did not expect the revelations we learn about him. I understood why the yound woman was angry about it. Regarding the warlock, I must say that his behavior bothered me a bit, but the more we advance in the story the more we understand why he did that. It was also quite touching to discover that despite the facade he presents to people, there was more and he would do anything to help the people he cares about.

I must admit that the rhythm is a little slower than what I had the habit of reading but it is certainly a pleasure to try it even if I prefer her other series. I am somehow curious to read more and see how Volume 2 will be thereafter.

Marieuse surnaturelle, Tessa Dandridge connaît quelques petits trucs par ci et un peu de magie par-là, pour aider les loups-garous téméraires et les lutins précoces à trouver l’amour. C’est, jusqu’à ce que son manuscrit magique Smythe soit perdu dans sa voiture reprise ce qui l’empêche alors de communiquer avec ses clients VIP. Pour vous connecter avec un client important se baladant dans la cinquième dimension, Tessa doit dépendre du beau Rob Shin, un homme démoniste repo, pour entrer dans les limbes et trouver son manuscrit Smythe. Rob a des problèmes d’argent, merci à la banque qui est déterminée à mettre à la rue sa vieille tante et son oncle. Avec de la magie de reprise et des pianos maudits, ce job n’est pas le meilleur, mais l’homme de la Navy SEAL travaille aussi comme homme de reprise pour payer les dettes de sa famille. Les emplois de reprise de possession de Rob le rattrapent quand un sorcier puissant cherche à mettre fin à sa vie pour son ingérence constante, amenant Tessa dans le tableau.

Avis : J’avais eu un gros coup de cœur pour la série Coveted, et quand j’ai vu que Shawntelle sortait un nouveau roman, je me suis précipitée dessus. En plus la mention de l’univers de la première série me rendait vraiment curieuse. Mais cette fois ci, non, plus de loups garous mais des sorciers et deux en particulier, Rob et Tessa.

On découvre donc Tessa, cette jeune femme qui dirige une agence pour aider les êtres surnaturels à trouver l’amour. Mais quoi que tout le monde pense, c’est un travail beaucoup plus difficile qu’il n’y parait, notamment quand certains clients ne restent pas vivre dans notre dimension mais se trouvent dans d’autres. Pour ceux-là, aucun moyen de communication classique, mais la jeune femme possède un manuscrit qui lui permet de les contacter. Mais quand après un rendez-vous, sa voiture est reprise par un sorcier et stockée dans les limbes à cause d’impayés, la jeune femme se retrouve anéantie. Oui en effet, son manuscrit se trouvait dans sa voiture et pour ne pas mettre la clef sous la porte, il faut absolument qu’elle le récupère ! Il n’y a cependant qu’un seul moyen pour cela, faire équipe avec Rob, cet homme au travail peu respecté. Cependant, il ne peut atteindre les limbes que lorsqu’il doit récupérer des objets contre des impayés. Tessa va donc le suivre tout au long de ses journées en espérant enfin récupérer son bien, mais le tout est beaucoup plus compliqué que prévu. En effet, il pourrait bien attirer l’attention de personnes peu recommandables, peu contents de se voir récupérer leurs affaires. Mais bien plus que cela, cette femme qui malgré son aide en amour n’a jamais eu de chance elle-même et sa rencontre avec Rob pourrait bien changer… s’il ne lui brise pas le cœur avant même que quelque chose commence.

J’avoue qu’à l’inverse des autres romans de l’auteure, j’ai eu un peu plus de mal à rentrer dans l’histoire et à accrocher aux personnages et il faudra attendre plusieurs chapitres pour que la magie opère. Pourtant c’était assez intéressant de découvrir les idées mises en avant ici par rapport aux dettes des gens. C’était quelque chose de vraiment original et j’ai beaucoup aimé comprendre comment le tout marchait exactement. Tessa est vraiment déterminée à récupérer ce qu’elle a perdu malgré les dangers mais il faut dire que malgré les apparences sa vie est loin d’être facile et tout ne fait que se compliquer continuellement. J’ai aussi beaucoup aimé l’interaction qu’elle a avec Rob mais j’avoue que je ne m’attendais pas aux révélations que l’on apprend au sujet de ce dernier et on comprend parfaitement la colère de la jeune femme. Pour ce qui est du sorcier, je dois dire qu’il m’a un peu embêté au départ de par son comportement, mais plus on avance dans l’histoire plus on comprend pourquoi il agit ainsi avec un tel métier. C’était aussi assez attendrissant de découvrir que malgré la façade qu’il présente aux gens, il y avait plus que ça et qu’il ferait tout pour aider les gens auxquels il tient.

Je dois avouer que le rythme n’est pas aussi soutenu que ce j’ai eu l’habitude de lire mais c’est en tout cas une histoire agréable à lire même si je préfère son autre série. Je suis de toute façon curieuse d’en lire plus et voir ce que le tome 2 donnera par la suite.

She’s a witch in wolf’s clothing – until an unfortunate bite forces her to become the one thing she detests the most.

The last time a witch came to Hadley, she almost destroyed Trenton’s pack. He won’t let it happen again, especially now that this lone wolf is feeling so drawn to a certain new new girl in town. Charly is the most intriguing woman he’s ever met, and he wants to know all about her.

The passion between Charly and Trenton shocks them both, but can she trust him with her secret…and her heart? One thing is for certain: she has to tell him the truth soon – before it brings about the end of both Trenton and the innocent citizens of Hadley.

Review: I love the Coveted series by Shawntelle Madison, but it’s true that I did not know anything about this series. So when I saw the second volume, I was curious to see how it would be. Yes, I know, I have not read the first one but I suspected it would tell the story of Emma and Kyle. However, I didn’t have any problems by starting with this one. I must say that the story itself is very fast. Indeed, I was not really expected this kind of format. The story only counts 83 pages, which looks like a novella and yet the novel manages to stay perfectly complete.

Charly is a young woman currently changing. She is a witch on a mission to save her mother and for that her Covent forces her to make the ultimate sacrifice and become a werewolf to manipulate all of her kind. With the duty to cast a spell on the alpha of the pack to get to do what she wants, she quickly discovers that her mission will be more difficult than expected. The fact that the alpha in question is not present is already something. However, Charly will quickly be attracted by a police officer of the city, a man she knows as a dangerous creature and yet she may fall into her own the game, but when her attempts are finally a dismal failure, our wolf will have to face a new murderer and she will have to try to understand the reasons behind all this before everyone finds out who she is and kill her.

I really liked this story. Of course, we can read it very quickly but the relationship between Charly and Trenton is really nice and I found them quite cute together. However, some new problems have also begun here and I’m curious to see what the author has in store for the future. I confess that I did not understand all the intricacies of the story about the reasons opposing wolves, witches and demons but I’m really curious to learn more. But as I said, it’s a nice little story that can be read between two novels with pleasure.

Charly est la femme la plus intrigante qu’il ait jamais rencontrée, et il veut tout savoir sur elle.

La passion entre Charly et Trenton les choque tous les deux, mais peut-elle lui confier son secret … et son cœur ? Une chose est certaine : elle doit lui dire la vérité vite – avant que cela ne provoque la fin de Trenton et des citoyens innocents de Hadley.

Avis : J’aime beaucoup la série Coveted de Shawntelle Madison, mais c’est vrai que je ne connaissais pas du tout cette série-là. Aussi quand j’ai vu le second tome, j’ai été curieuse de voir ce qu’il donnait. Oui, je sais, je n’ai pas lu le premier tome mais je me suis doutée qu’il devait retracer l’histoire d’Emma et Kyle. Pour autant, je n’ai pas vraiment eu de soucis en commençant par celui-ci. Il faut dire que l’histoire est elle-même très rapide. En effet, je ne m’étais pas vraiment attendu à ce genre de format. L’histoire ne fait que 83 pages, ce qui ressemble assez à une nouvelle et pourtant le roman parvient parfaitement à rester complet.

Charly est une jeune femme en plein changement. C’est une sorcière en mission pour sauver sa mère et pour cela, son couvent l’a obligé à faire le sacrifice ultime et devenir loup-garou pour les manipuler tous. Ayant pour devoir de lancer un sort sur l’alpha de la meute pour arriver à en faire ce qu’elle veut, elle découvre très vite que sa mission sera plus difficile que prévue. Le fait que l’alpha en question ne soit pas présent en est déjà une. Pourtant, Charly va très vite être attiré par un policier de la ville, un homme qu’elle sait être une créature dangereuse et pourtant il se pourrait bien qu’elle se laisse prendre au jeu. Mais alors que ses tentatives de missions se soldent par un échec cuisant, notre louve va devoir faire face à de nouveaux meurtres et essayer d’en comprendre la raison avant que tout le monde découvre qui elle est et ne la tue.

J’ai vraiment bien aimé cette histoire. Bien sûr, elle se lit très vite mais la relation entre Charly et Trenton est vraiment bien tournée et je les ai trouvés assez mignons ensemble. Cependant de nouveaux problèmes sont aussi amorcés ici et je suis curieuse de voir ce que l’auteur nous réserve pour la suite. Je l’avoue, je n’ai pas compris toutes les subtilités de l’histoire par rapport à ce qui opposait les loups, les sorcières et les démons mais je suis vraiment curieuse de pouvoir en apprendre plus. Mais comme je le disais, c’est une jolie petite histoire que l’on peut lire entre deux romans avec plaisir.

First of all, I’d like to thank Between Fantasy and Reality for hosting my interview. I had so much fun. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t.

I’m so excited about my first audiobook release and I would love to offer a copy to a Between Dreams and Reality Reader. The whole process has been an adventure. So what happens when you take a zany book and bring it to life? A story with dragons, leprechauns, and werewolves? Very carefully, thank you very much. To start the process, I used ACX to find a narrator. I had a difficult project in the first place. Not only did I have leprechauns, which required an Irish accent, I had a story with various Russian words and other creatures who needed to come to life. I needed a voice actor who was prepared to do any kind of voice in Collected. Audio Élan stepped up to the plate and made the story sparkle.

The whole process began with handing over the manuscript to Audio Élan. My narrator went over it first to check for any problems that would come out during her recording sessions. Once she was satisfied the script would work, set recorded the first fifteen minutes. Naturally, just like writing, she had to prepare it for public consumption with mixing and mastering. When I finally heard it the first time I was so excited. If you have read Collected, then you know about the Russian dragon. Well, guess what? She made the Russian dragon sound so hilarious.

After my narrator tackled the first fifteen minutes, she jumped into the deep end of the pool and worked on completing all the chapters in the book. One by one she knocked them out and offered them to me for approval. The process took months of recording and perfecting, but when the final version was uploaded to ACX, I was so excited. The part at the end of the book, and I won’t spoil the story for readers who haven’t read the book, has the perfect flow. I sensed what Natalya felt and that’s the kind of story I want to hear.
