The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two by Catherynne M. Valente

Fairyland, Book 3

Synopsis: September misses Fairyland and her friends Ell, the Wyverary, and the boy Saturday. She longs to leave the routines of home, and embark on a new adventure. Little does she know that this time, she will be spirited away to the moon, reunited with her friends, and find herself faced with saving Fairyland from a moon-Yeti with great and mysterious powers.

Review: This is a new adventure of September who this time is 14 years old. Since her last visit, our young heroine hopes to return to Fairyland, but Green Wind did not return to take her as promised. The years advancing, she knows that she is growing steadily, and soon she will not have the opportunity to travel to this place she loves so much. But while she is driving, she will follow a being who will help her achieve the goal she desires. But after being cataloged as a knight, a bishop, she is now a criminal, a revolutionary!

We don’t really discover this time Fairyland, but the moon, because yes people can get there without any problems. And while a year has passed for her, she will understand that only a few months have passed to her friends that she finds again with great pleasure. Saturday and Ell have both found something to do to continue their lives and it is true that I was glad to see their progress here and see that they were both past their fear to live their lives independently of each other. Together they set off on a new adventure, one that will push them to find the moon-Yeti terrorizing a lot of people. We discover in this quest the ideas about the creation the moon which is really very good found and it is the same with the explanation of all the strange things going on this moon with a pretty magical revelation at the end of the novel.

Another thing that really struck me about this novel is the relationship between September and her friends and especially with Saturday. They are really cute together and it’s true that we learn a little more about his story here. Indeed, a Marid may face himself several times in his life, and that’s what will happen throughout the story, showing us what could happen next between him and September. I just wonder if their story will change or if everything is already planned.

It was a very good new story again with many new characters and of course our friends that we also love. It was a novel that is as always full of magic, touching moments and characters we love. I’m just very curious to read more and I was very glad I had the chance to read the three volumes the one after the other and discover all the September’s adventures.

  1. I WANT THIS SERIES SO BADLY! I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about how wonderful and magical it is, and your review has made me just want it more! 🙂 Definitely going to have to pick up the first book to see what I’ve been missing. 😉 Thanks for sharing Melliane, and, as always, BRILLIANT review! <3

  2. I love coming into a series where all or nearly all the books are out so I can just sit down and binge read them. I fall in love with the characters so much faster that way because I get to spend more time with them. So glad this is a winner of a series for you Melliane!

  3. When is the 5 star going to come, Melly? I keep seeing you reading this series and you seem to really like it but it’s never perfect LOL. I’m not sure if I’m going to try it soon because book 1 sounds interesting but book 2 I don’t know and, hey book 3 is not even writeen by the same author! O.o (I think, according to Book Outlet and Goodreads.)

    • I don’t think it’s worth 5 starts. It’s really good but not that good. I don’t understand, it’s the same author. it’s just that the illustrator is also noted maybe they made a mistake.
