October Daye, Book 6

Synopsis: It’s been almost a year since October “Toby” Daye averted a war, gave up a county, and suffered personal losses that have left her wishing for a good day’s sleep. She’s tried to focus on her responsibilities—training Quentin, upholding her position as Sylvester’s knight, and paying the bills—but she can’t help feeling like her world is crumbling around her, and her increasingly reckless behavior is beginning to worry even her staunchest supporters.

To make matters worse, Toby’s just been asked to find another missing child…only this time it’s the changeling daughter of her fellow knight, Etienne, who didn’t even know he was a father until the girl went missing. Her name is Chelsea. She’s a teleporter, like her father. She’s also the kind of changeling the old stories warn about, the ones with all the strength and none of the control. She’s opening doors that were never meant to be opened, releasing dangers that were sealed away centuries before—and there’s a good chance she could destroy Faerie if she isn’t stopped.

Now Toby must find Chelsea before time runs out, racing against an unknown deadline and through unknown worlds as she and her allies try to avert disaster. But danger is also stirring in the Court of Cats, and Tybalt may need Toby’s help with the biggest challenge he’s ever faced.

Toby thought the last year was bad. She has no idea.

Review: If you know me, you know that this series is really one of my favorites and each end is terrible because we always want more. I must say that many things happened in the fifth volume and Toby has faced a lot of problems.

After the death of her lover, Toby must strive to continue to live, but it seems like it’s impossible for her and she withers instead slowly. But everything will change when everyone decide to shake her and decide that she must stand up, for her and for them. With all that, we can add Etienne… indeed, his daughter (he had during the Luna’s disappearance) with a human (he did not know her existence), disappeared and he asks our heroine’s help to find her. But Chelsea is not like any other girl and her Changeling’s powers are quite unusual, even beyond her own control. And when she starts to open passages in ancient kingdoms of Faerie that should never have been discovered, all courts are in danger. They must therefore stop Chelsea as soon as possible. But still, there is always more and a wind of revolt is sweeping in the Cats Kingdom, turning upside down the story.

We discover a different Toby who risks her life constantly and doesn’t defend her life (even more than usual, yes, it’s possible!). But when work catches up our heroine, she is always present. But while she thought it wouldn’t be that difficult to find Chelsea, the girl intends to show her that this is not the case. Again, we learn more about the intricacies of Fairie, which is always very interesting. After that, it’s is true that we are still waiting to know more about the relationship between Toby and Tybalt. Yes because it evolves here! I must say that this is something we hoped for 6 volumes so I was really happy that our two characters finally realizing that something is happening between them. And I look forward to more now (Yes, I’m still very curious).

I had many questions about another character here and it is Quentin! This boy is great but I’m more intrigued by his past as we don’t know anything about that. The fact that he is from Canada has only made us more curious. Who are his parents? How is it that they are not crazy worried about their son? (yes because it must be said that October is not the safest possible person). But I think we must wait quietly for more and I hope we will have some answers in the next novel.

It was a great pleasure to immerse myself in this new story, just like the others and I recommend this series which presents us magic, fae, complots, all decorated with an unusual intrigue.

Six volumes to finally see the characters lurving over each other – well, okay maybe not ‘lurve’? I would have normally been shocked but, since it’s UF, okay, I’ll let it pass 😉

I’m hoping to start this series this year, and there’s a good chance I will because I put Rosemary and Rue on one of my reading challenges and there’s no going back now! I’m quite excited as I’ve heard fantastic things.
