Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs

Mercy Thompson, Book 9

Synopsis: Mercy Thompson has been hailed as “a heroine who continues to grow and yet always remains true to herself.” Now she’s back, and she’ll soon discover that when the fae stalk the human world, it’s the children who suffer…

Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

Review: It’s always a pleasure to embark on a new Mercy Thompson adventure and so rediscovering her world and all the characters we love. Of course, we are now in the ninth volume and you could ask if the story remains is it first was, but I can tell you that this is the case and there is still much to discover. I admit that I was a bit scared at the beginning of the novel, feeling the length of the chapters, but it is true that eventually, past a certain part, we find ourselves once again carried away as always!

The previous volumes really put Mercy in the heart of the story by revealing each time a lot of things about her and you could think that this would continue here, but this is not really the case. No, we focus in this new section on the fae and their secrets. Yes, it is also a very interesting topic because even if we know them from the beginning of the series, we do not finally know a lot about them. Curious now, are you? I was for sure! It must be said that learning more about Zee, the Gray Lords or on their life in the reserve was something fascinating. And when in addition, it highlights a boy kidnapped long ago and who reappears now seeking sanctuary with our beloved couple, a child with an incredible power, we are really eager to understand how the events will unfold.

So no, we do not learn more about our dear Mercy but we will discover more elaborate secrets and it’s true we are quickly snapped up by the story. In addition, we also have the chance to see the appearance of some new characters that we had not seen until then and I admit that I am quite curious to see if we will find them again eventually. In any case, I enjoyed knowing about the young man, Aiden, who is now different but who tries to adjust to his new life in the pack, although nothing is simple for him. Yes this young boy is a real strong point of the story.

To conclude, despite a difficult start for me, I spent a great time with the novel again and I look forward to read more.

  1. I also haven’t read these but the more I hear about them the more intrigued I am. As being fairly new to urban fantasy this is the series I seem to lean towards the most. Glad this one was so good after a slow start.

  2. Great review Melliane. I know that I enjoyed learning more about the fae and spending some time with some that have been missing from the story for a while. I also loved Adam drop mic moment. I’m curious about Aiden and how he will affect Joel going forward.

  3. I personally would prefer to learn more about Mercy too (which is why I loved River Marked so much) but I’m okay as well with the story moving ahead with the Fae. Thank goodness too that I wasn’t the only one who thought the start of this one was a little wonky. Gotta say, the pacing wasn’t great but in the end I had fun. I love this series 🙂

  4. So glad you enjoyed this one overall Melliane! I couldn’t love this series more:) I so loved having Zee back, I’d missed him in the past couple books. He’s just so grumpy and awesome:) So looking forward to seeing where things go for Mercy and the pack next!

  5. I love all the reviews I have been seeing for this! I need to get caught back up on this series but I love that I already know all the books I have to read are going to be so much fun!
