Keeping Secret by Sierra Dean

Secret McQueen, Book 4

Synopsis: Something old, something blue, something deadly…what else is new?

It’s a nice day for a white wedding. At least that’s what Secret McQueen is hoping for, with her poofy-princess-dress marriage to a werewolf king looming closer and closer by the day. But as ever, nothing can be that easy for a vampire/werewolf hybrid for whom someone still harbors a death wish.

Summoned to the south by her werewolf uncle, who makes no bones about the fact her mate bond with Lucas doesn’t pass muster, Secret learns her furry heritage looks more like a tangled vine than a family tree. Getting her royal uncle’s blessing hinges on finding one of the missing twigs. Even with vampire sentry Holden Chancery at her side, she manages to land up to her neck in a swamp of trouble.

As an assassin’s scope zeroes in, family dramas boil up and a fast-collapsing love square threatens to bury her alive, making it to the church on time could be the least of Secret’s problems.

Warning: Contains a grumpy bride who shouldn’t be wearing wedding white, a motley crew of bridesmaids, a dangerous scenic drive in the woods and a smoking-hot trio of suitors who might be too scorching to touch.

Review: I always have a great time with Secret McQueen but it’s true that I take my time to read every novel in the series. Yet, this is how I discovered the unpleasant information of the closing of the Samhain editions. How sad when I discovered some wonderful novels. Also, I rushed to buy the last volumes I didn’t have… not an easy thing I must say! So I wanted to get into Keeping Secret and continue the adventures of our heroine.

Secret has to handle both parts of herself with great attention. Indeed, now part of the tribunal, her presence and her choices have a great importance! But although an important part of this book is based on this theme, the biggest part focuses to her werewolf side. In fact, her marriage with Lucas is approaching quite fast and she has to settle the last details, something she does not appreciate very much it must be said. But when in addition, she must protect her loved ones with the arrival of some killers who seem determined to kill her, it is too much. Yet this is not all and it would seem that Secret must face up to her past when Callum summons her with Lucas to allow their union. Indeed, they both have to go to her uncle’s territory in order to have his agreement … Alas nothing will be so simple and he wants for something in return.

I really had a great time with this book and it’s always a treat to find Secret. The poor girl is not going to have a great time in this book and I confess that I really did not expect such an end. Yet I fully understand the decisions of the young woman and although I am a little sad for some points I understand the consequences. I am however very curious about Grave Secret now to know what exactly will happen next. It was once again a great surprise! We learn more about Secret and her past and what she is now able to do.
